Athletes stun at 2025 Met Gala as Lewis Hamilton, Simone Biles, Venus Williams make appearances
On Monday in New York, the stars were out on the floral carpet for the 2025 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Several athletes joined the parade of celebrities in bespoke fashions.
The theme of the event is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," in line with the new exhibit at the Met's Costume Institute. In line with the theme, the gala's dress code is "Tailored for You."

As one of the event's co-chairs, British racer Lewis Hamilton showed up earlier than many and showed out, wearing a well-tailored cream suit with a matching hat.

Monday's event was missing one notable face, with LeBron James announcing that he would not be able to attend due to a knee injury he sustained during the NBA playoffs. James was an honorary chair for the event; his wife Savannah will still be in attendance.
But plenty of other athletes had a chance to enter the world of high fashion. Simone Biles and her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, were spotted at the Carlyle Hotel before making their way to the museum. Biles wore a short blue dress with a striking collar, flower details and a long train, while Owens wore a white suit with embroidered details and fringed cuffs.

Venus Williams went green for her outfit, with a polo-style collared shirt, a high-low tennis skirt and a dramatic overcoat — with plenty of sparkle.
Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, Met Gala regulars, were spotted on the red carpet in stylish black-and-white garb. The couple's complementary outfits included a classy sequined vest for Wade, and a matching satin headpiece on Union.
The Met Gala also had a pair of WNBA champions in attendance, with New York Liberty stars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu gracing the carpet with their fits. Stewart's white suit and jaunty curl, and Ionescu's tailored black-and-white outfit and diamond jewelry were well-representative of the theme.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley opted for a more basic outfit, wearing a simple black tuxedo and bow tie.
LSU guard Flau'jae Johnson also made an appearance, showing up to her first Met Gala with a showstopping black-and-white dress and a circular headpiece.

The work that she put in over the next six or so months has resulted in a wildly efficient start that's made her an early candidate for Sixth Player of the Year. Her shooting numbers through eight games are staggering — 54.5 percent (24-for-44) from the field and 59.3 percent (16-for-27) from deep. It's a massive leap from a season ago when she shot 40.9/25.9 on fewer attempts per game. Asked how good Burke's shot feels right now, the veteran admitted to The Post, 'It does feel pretty good.' When Jonquel Jones went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter Thursday, Burke was one of the players who stepped up. For the second time this season, she went 4-for-4 from deep, finishing with 12 points. 'It's been great and certainly we've needed all of those 3-point shots,' Brondello said. Burke's hot start has earned her a spot in the conversation for Sixth Player of the Year. Her 9.3 points per game has her tied for fourth among bench players in scoring, but no one is shooting the ball as efficiently as her. Scoring isn't the only marker for those end-of-season awards. But the off-the-bench boost that she continues to provide on a nightly basis is hard to ignore.

Granollers and Zeballos defy their ages to win French Open doubles title
PARIS (AP) — Veterans Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the French Open doubles final on Saturday for their first major title together, and at the combined age of 79. Granollers, a 39-year-old from Spain, and his 40-year-old Argentine partner played in their fourth Grand Slam final as a pairing, but first at the clay-court major. They defeated British pair Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski 6-0, 6-7 (5), 7-5. Granollers and Zeballos, who were seeded fifth in Paris, were runners-up at the U.S. Open in 2019 and Wimbledon in 2021 and 2023.
