AUSTIN, Texas - Two people were arrested following a shopping blitz by the Austin Police Department. In total, over $3,000 worth of items were stolen from various stores.
Officials conducted a "shoplifting blitz" operation in the Lakeline Mall area. This operation was conducted as an ongoing effort to help local retailers to stop shoplifting.
The backstory
On Tuesday, June 3, around 12:50 p.m., officers responded to a report at Kohl's, at 11111 Lakeline Blvd., regarding two people who were removing security tags and unpaid hiding merch while in the store.
When officers arrived, they spoke with store employees, who told them the suspects hid several items in reusable shopping bags and a woman's purse.
Officers then found the suspects as they left the store with the stolen items. The suspects got into a black Tesla with the stolen merch and were then taken into custody.
About $1,600 worth of merch was stolen from Kohl's. They also found several other stolen items worth around $2,000 that were taken from H-E-B and Home Depot on the same day.
There were even stolen items from a Walmart in Buda a few days prior.
Officers also found evidence of identity theft and fraud, as well as meth.
Ada Johnson was charged with theft with two prior convictions and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Daryl Johnson was charged with theft.
Additional charges are pending for both suspects.

Democrats have criticized the takeover as an overreach, with members of Congress asking for a resolution to terminate the "crime emergency" that was declared by the Trump administration. "President Trump's incursions against D.C. are among the most egregious attacks on D.C. home rule in decades. D.C. residents are Americans, worthy of the same autonomy granted to residents of the states," Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, who represents D.C. as a delegate, said in a statement. "Our local police force, paid for by D.C. residents, should not be subject to federalization, an action that wouldn't be possible for any other police department in the country. Meanwhile, the White House blasted the resolution, as the Trump administration said the intention is to lower crime in the capital city."But instead of supporting what should be a bipartisan measure to Make DC Safe Again, Democrats are burying their heads in the sand, denying there is a problem, and carrying the torch for dangerous criminals that terrorize DC communities," White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital. "D.C. residents know the reality on the ground – crime was out of control and President Trump's actions are making the city safer. The left's refusal to support widely popular issues with the American public – like stopping violent crime – are why their approval ratings are at historic lows and will continue to tank," she added. The city is suing over the action, arguing that it hinders the ability of the district to self-govern. "We are suing to block the federal government takeover of D.C. police. By illegally declaring a takeover of MPD, the Administration is abusing its temporary, limited authority under the law. This is the gravest threat to Home Rule DC has ever faced, and we are fighting to stop it," D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb posted to X on Friday. "The federal government's power over DC is not absolute, and it should not be exercised as such. Section 740 of the Home Rule Act permits the President to request MPD's services. But it can only be done temporarily, for special emergencies, and solely for federal purposes," he added.

Aurora police pursuit of stolen vehicle ends in multi-vehicle crash, suspect arrested
The Aurora police department is investigating after they say a driver led police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle, crashed, and then stole another vehicle and crashed again. According to APD, around 9:30 a.m., their officers spotted a stolen Ford Expedition that had been taken in Westminster on August 12. The driver reportedly led officers on a pursuit east on Colfax Avenue before merging onto I-70. They exited the interstate and headed back westbound on I-70, where officers had deployed Stop Sticks. Authorities said that when the driver swerved onto the grassy shoulder to avoid them, the vehicle rolled, and the driver ran away, leading officers on a foot chase. Officers took the female passenger into custody, and shortly after, received reports that the driver had attempted a carjacking. They say the driver then stole a different vehicle. Authorities said as the suspect was heading north on Tower Road, he reportedly struck another vehicle heading west on 40th Avenue. The stolen vehicle spun, striking two more cars at the intersection. Officers arrested the suspect, who was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. The APD said he is refusing to cooperate with the investigation. The three other drivers involved in the crash were not injured. Authorities closed southbound Tower Road while officers worked to clear the scene. Traffic reopened in all directions around 10:41 a.m., but police said that some areas and lanes will remain blocked while the investigation continues. APD Public Information Officer Matthew Longshore said that since the department changed its pursuit policy in March, officers have been involved in around 120 pursuits. Of the 59 vehicles stopped, 72 people have been arrested, many with criminal histories. "These aren't just regular people that are driving stolen cars," said Longshore. "These are criminals involved in criminal behavior. People aren't stealing cars to go drive to the grocery store; these people are stealing cars to commit other crimes."

Albuquerque mother charged with child abuse after one-year-old almost overdoses
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque mother is charged with child abuse after police say her one-year-old was overdosing on fentanyl at a northeast Albuquerque hotel. Court documents show that police responded to the Days Inn on Candelaria Rd. after a housekeeper came to the rescue and administered Narcan to the infant on Tuesday. APD: Seven-year-old tells police he watched mother kill his sister Police said 40-year-old Isha Garcia called out for help, requesting Narcan for an overdose in her room. A housekeeper was nearby and told police because of the history of drug use at the hotel, she keeps Narcan on her. By the time first responders arrived on scene, the one-year-old was alive and breathing. Police said the baby was a twin, and they were in a playpen while their mother and others smoked meth and fentanyl. When officers spoke to Garcia, she said her baby found a pill on the floor, which ended up being fentanyl. Garcia is now charged with child abuse. The New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department put both children on a 72-hour hold CYFD sent KRQE News 13 this statement: This case is under active investigation, and it would be premature for CYFD to comment at this time.
