South Korean President Lee appoints former PM Kim Boo-kyum as special envoy to India

Seoul [South Korea], July 13 (ANI): South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Sunday was appointed former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum as his special envoy to India, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The move is seen as part of Seoul's broader diplomatic outreach effort to strengthen ties with key global partners.
Yonhap reported that Kim will leave for India on Wednesday.
Kim Boo-kyum served as the South Korean Prime Minister from 2021 to 2022. He is also a former four-term lawmaker and served as interior minister, according to the South Korean news agency.
Lee has also appointed special envoys to three other countries this week. South Korea's former Environment Minister Yoon Yeo-joon will head to the European Union. Former Justice Minister Kang Gum-sil will travel to France.
South Korea's Democratic Party lawmaker Choo Mi-ae will lead the delegation to Britain. All envoys are scheduled to depart by mid-week.
Yonhap also reported that Kim Chong-in, a former interim leader of the main opposition People Power Party, is being strongly considered for the role of special envoy to the United States.
According to Yonhap, the South Korean presidential office is in talks with 14 countries regarding the possible dispatch of more special envoys. Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs Woo Sang-ho said last week that discussions are ongoing. (ANI)

North Korea continues to bolster Russia's war efforts with artillery supply
North Korea has continued to supply millions of artillery shells and other munitions to Russia since the start of Moscow's war in Ukraine, according to military data submitted to a South Korean lawmaker. The shipments are estimated to exceed about 12 million rounds when converted into 152-millimeter (6 inch) artillery shells, the DIA said. 'North Korea is continuing to supply weapons to Russia,' the agency said in a statement to Kang. 'Our military is constantly reassessing the scale of North Korea's weapons support to Russia in coordination with relevant agencies and allied nations.' Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, North Korea has expanded its support beyond artillery shells to include missiles, self-propelled guns, and even combat personnel, reports said. North Korea is now supplying as much as 40% of Russia's ammunition needs for the war, Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukrainian military intelligence, told Bloomberg News in an interview. Kim Jong Un's regime is also sending other weapons, including ballistic missiles and artillery systems, Budanov said, adding that they are 'good weapons.' Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Pyongyang last week, saying North Korea has affirmed its 'clear support' for Russia's war in Ukraine and for the Kremlin's leadership. In return, Russia is providing money and technology to North Korea, helping to ease Pyongyang's international isolation, according to Budanov.

India participates in Australia's largest bilateral military exercise, Talisman Sabre, for first time
Adelaide [Australia], July 14 (ANI): India has made its debut in Australia's largest bilateral military exercise, Exercise Talisman Sabre, marking a significant milestone in the deepening defence and security cooperation between the two nations in the Indo-Pacific region. India's participation in the exercise was confirmed by Australia's High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, in a post on X. 'A significant step forward in deepening India-Australia cooperation on defence and security in the Indo-Pacific,' Green stated in the post on Wednesday. According to a post by Talisman Sabre on X, a total of 19 nations will be joining the exercise, including the US and 16 other partner nations and two observer nations. As per Australia's Department of Defence, Exercise Talisman Sabre, the country's largest bilateral military exercise, officially commenced on Sunday, following an opening ceremony on board HMAS Adelaide. Chief of Joint Operations, Vice Admiral Justin Jones, joined US Deputy Commanding General of US Army Pacific, Lieutenant General Joel B Vowell, for the official opening at Garden Island in Sydney. Talisman Sabre 2025 is the 11th iteration of the largest and most sophisticated warfighting exercise ever conducted in Australia. As per the country's Department of Defence, over the next three weeks, as part of the exercise, more than 35,000 military personnel from Australia and partnering nations will deploy across Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia, New South Wales and Christmas Island, with activities conducted outside of Australia in Papua New Guinea for the first time. In addition to the US, forces from Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, and the UK will join as partners. Malaysia and Vietnam will also attend as observers. This year's exercise will consist of live-fire exercises and field training activities, incorporating force preparation activities, amphibious landings, ground force manoeuvres, and air combat and maritime operations. It will also feature a range of new Australian Defence Force capabilities, including UH-60M Black Hawks and the Precision Strike Missile. (ANI)

BJP MP Yogender Chandolia backs SC approved revision of Bihar voter list
New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): After the Supreme Court allowed a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogender Chandolia supported the move, and said that names of foreign nationals like those from Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh must be removed. He also said that such individuals should be sent back to their countries and added that this exercise should be carried out in other states as well Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Yogender Chandolia said, 'Since the Election Commission has started this work in Bihar, it will continue this in other states as well. If the people of Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh are our voters, then what is the point of giving the right to vote to the local residents? Such votes must be deleted, and not only that, these people should be sent back to wherever they are from.' Meanwhile, a large number of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been found by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with Aadhaar cards, domicile certificates and ration cards during house-to-house visits carried out as part of the SIR of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, according to sources. The state will have Assembly polls later in the year. ECI sources said that after a proper enquiry is conducted from 1 Aug to 30 Aug, if found true, such names shall not be included in the final list to be published on 30 September 2025. The Election Commission of India (ECI) said that till Saturday evening, 80.11 per cent of electors in Bihar submitted their forms, adding that the commission is moving ahead to complete the collection of Enumeration Forms (EFs) before the stipulated time of July 25. 'With 77,895 BLOs, an additional 20,603 newly appointed BLOs on the ground, ECI is moving ahead to complete the collection of Enumeration Forms before the stipulated time of 25th July, 2025. Field-level teams, including 38 District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) across all 243 Assembly Constituencies, and 963 Assistant EROs (AEROs), are being closely monitored by the CEO for this purpose,' the ECI said. These efforts of ECI are being supplemented by 1.5 lakh BLAs appointed by all political parties who are also visiting door to door, leaving no stone unturned to ensure inclusion of every existing elector whose name is in the Electoral Roll in Bihar as on 24 June, 2025. Special efforts are also being made to assist senior citizens, PwD electors, and other vulnerable groups by over our lakh volunteers. (ANI)
