Human remains 'consistent with' 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro were discovered during a search of the Rehoboth residence of a man she was in a relationship with Tuesday night, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn announced.
The man, 22-year-old Gregory Groom, who already faces domestic violence charges in connection with an incident involving Monteiro, will be charged with murder, Quinn said during a press conference.
Monteiro, who was 11 weeks pregnant, was first reported missing on Aug. 7 by Groom. He is charged with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness in connection with an incident involving Monteiro that took place the day prior, Quinn's office said in a statement.
Groom will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday.
Monteiro was last seen at Groom's residence at 107 County St. in Rehoboth. Police conducted extensive searches for the girl and eventually obtained a search warrant for the County Street property.
During the execution of that search warrant, remains 'consistent with' those of Monteiro were found, Quinn said. Officials are awaiting confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that the remains are indeed Monteiro's.
Videos from the scene show an excavator arriving to the County Street area around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Monteiro's family told WCVB she and Groom had argued before she disappeared. Her sister, Faith, wrote on Facebook that the family would be holding a vigil for Monteiro on Saturday.
The family also launched a GoFundMe for Monteiro, which now seeks donations to pay for funeral costs.
'This is closure and we are so thankful for everyone's help in getting here,' Monteiro's sister, Catherine, wrote. 'Obviously, there will be court proceedings but we are taking this one step at a time.'

'Wait, what?': Judge delivers wrong verdict to man on trial in deputy's death

A Georgia judge mistakenly delivered a guilty verdict this week, confusing the courtroom with his announcement. Alton Oliver, 26, went to trial last week on charges in connection with the 2022 fatal shooting of Fulton County Sheriff's Office Deputy James Thomas Jr. Thomas, who was 24, was found dead in a crashed vehicle. Oliver was charged with six criminal counts, officials said, including three counts of murder. On Aug. 15, he was found not guilty and cleared of all charges by a jury of his peers, Judge Henry Newkirk announced. According to 11Alive and Fox 5 Atlanta, Oliver testified he shot Thomas Jr. in self-defense after the deputy propositioned him to get into his vehicle for sex multiple times as he walked home from work at about 4:30 a.m. Oliver's attorneys claimed self-defense throughout the trial, as prosecutors argued his account of events was inconsistent, noting he did not mention any sexual advances when first questioned by police, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. The jury found Oliver not guilty, but Newkirk initially announced a guilty verdict on all six counts. Shortly after, at least two members of the jury were heard saying from the jury box, "Wait, what?" The judge paused, footage from the trial shows, then he reread the verdict. He then reread the correct statement, acquitting Oliver of all six criminal charges. "We the jury find the defendant not guilty of all counts," the judge said after correcting himself. A Mississippi native, Thomas Jr. served with the sheriff's office for less than a year, Sheriff Patrick Labat said in a statement after the shooting. "Deputy Thomas served Fulton County residents with honor and distinction," the sheriff said. "His death is a tragic reminder of the dangers of this job that our deputies are willing to accept every day." According to a GoFundMe created by Briana Lampkin of Dallas, Thomas' dream had been to become a law enforcement officer. "He did just that; followed and lived vividly through his dream guided with love, integrity, and passion," Lampkin wrote on the fundraiser page. "Please keep our family in your prayers and we thank you for continuing to honor (him)." USA TODAY contacted the sheriff's office and Lampkin on Wednesday, Aug. 20, but has not received a response. Four people found dead inside New Hampshire home in potential 'murder-suicide'

Four family members, including two children, were found dead inside a New Hampshire home on the night of Monday, Aug. 18, with their identities released by police the day after. On Tuesday, Aug. 19, officials identified the victims as a 34-year-old mother, a 48-year-old father, an 8-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. USA TODAY is not naming the deceased to protect the identity of the toddler. According to a news release from the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, the incident is currently being investigated as a "potential murder-suicide." Officials said that four bodies were found inside a home in Madbury, New Hampshire, on Monday night after receiving a 911 call. Madbury is located in the state's Seacoast region, northwest of Portsmouth. According to the statement, apart from the four bodies, a toddler was also found alive and uninjured inside the home. "Each of the deceased family members appears to have suffered gunshot wounds, and were pronounced dead at the scene," the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said. State officials searching for motive New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati told WCVB that investigators currently have more questions than answers. "A lot of things are still on the table as investigators get into it, but there is the possibility and what they're looking at this, potentially, is that it could be a murder-suicide," Agati said, per the Boston-based TV station. Officials added that there is no known threat to the public at this time. Fernando Cervantes Jr. is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Reach him at and follow him on X @fern_cerv_.

Heartbreaking photos of Casey-Louise, 13, with baby sister as mystery grows over final hours

Heartbreaking new photographs show a "caring" Casey-Louise Horrocks tenderly holding her baby sister, as the mystery surrounding her final hours deepens. Casey-Louise was found unresponsive in a flat in Huddersfield on August 11. She died in the early hours of the next morning. It is understood that she had been living in Liverpool under the care system. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of Casey-Louise's rape and murder. He has also been arrested on suspicion of raping another 16-year-old girl in a separate incident in Kirklees. He has since been released on bail. Yesterday, two new photographs of the schoolgirl were shared by her loved ones on a tribute site managed by the funeral directors. One image shows her lovingly cradling her baby sister, Mia, while in another she is seen standing next to a family friend, reports the Mirror. A heartfelt tribute from her 'best mate', Cole, read: "RIP Casey you'll be missed so much. Can't believe you left us so early, you're flying with the angels now, fly high, love you lots my thunder buddie in the sky." Her aunt, Dani, expressed her sorrow, saying she missed her "so much" and that she would remain "Forever 13". Paula Mills wrote: "Fly high with the angels beautiful girl. I hope there's an amazing afterlife waiting for you where all your hopes and dreams come true." Another person wrote: "You've left a massive hole in the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing you. Sweet dreams Casey, you'll be sadly missed xx." Casey-Louise attended Mossley Hollins High School in Tameside, with a statement released this week paying tribute to her as "bright, full of character, always full of life, and never afraid to be herself. "She was funny, sweet, had a smile that could brighten anyone's day and will be deeply missed by our school community", the statement continued. Students will receive support when lessons resume in September. A GoFundMe appeal has been launched to assist her family and contribute towards funeral expenses. In their most recent statement, DCI Stacey Atkinson, from West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "We are continuing to conduct a number of enquiries following the death of a 13-year-old girl following an incident at a flat on Sheepridge Road. "A post-mortem was not able to determine how she died and we continue to treat her death as unexplained at this time, pending more enquiries. "Those enquiries are complex and are likely to be lengthy as we work to fully understand the circumstances of the girl's death. Specially trained officers are supporting her family at this time."
