Security beefed up for cricket fixtures
According to details, the monitoring of matches being played in Lahore and Rawalpindi is underway using the latest surveillance systems.
Monitoring is being done inside and outside the Qaddafi and Rawalpindi stadiums through Safe City cameras.
For match security, monitoring continues with over 600 cameras, including facial recognition. Surveillance is being carried out 24 hours a day from the airport, hotel to the stadium, and surrounding routes.
The spokesperson for the Safe Cities Authority stated that virtual patrolling officers and technical teams are on duty 24/7 at the Safe City Headquarters.

Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad, Ganguly said he is unaware of any such decision and believes performance should be the only factor in deciding their ODI futures. "I'm not aware of this, can't comment on this. Whoever does well will play. If they do well, they should continue," Ganguly remarked. Ganguly also lauded their contributions to Indian cricket, noting their crucial roles in helping India win the Champions Trophy earlier this year. "It's difficult to say. But Kohli's one-day record is phenomenal, even Rohit Sharma's. Both of them are phenomenal in white-ball cricket," said. Earlier, Kohli and Sharma are reportedly set to retire from One Day Internationals (ODIs) later this year, following their recent retirements from Test and T20 formats. The veteran duo, who have already stepped away from Tests and T20 internationals, Kohli retiring from Tests in May 2025 and both calling time on their T20I careers after India's 2024 T20 World Cup victory, continue to represent India in the 50-over format. According to a report, both players are expected to feature for the last time in their careers during the upcoming ODI series against Australia scheduled for October 2025. Despite their continued presence in ODIs, speculation is mounting that this series might mark the final chapter of their international careers in the format. Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not currently see Kohli and Sharma as part of the core plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Reports claim that to remain in contention for the national ODI squad beyond this series, both players may be required to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's premier domestic one-day tournament, starting December 2025. This move could effectively push Kohli and Sharma towards announcing their retirement from international cricket after the Australia series. A source told Indian media, "Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not fit into our plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. "With more than two years to go before the event and both players nearing 40 by then, there needs to be a clear strategy. We also need to nurture young talent for the future."

Photo: AFP Cricket Australia announced its T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming home series against South Africa on Wednesday. The series will begin with a three-match T20I series on August 10, followed by three ODIs in northern Australia. Young all-rounder Mitchell Owen has received his maiden ODI call-up after a strong start in the T20 format against the West Indies earlier this year. The 23-year-old impressed with 125 runs at a strike rate of 192.30 in the Caribbean series, which included a half-century on debut in Jamaica. Owen also underlined his limited overs credentials last season when he smashed 149 off just 69 deliveries for Tasmania in the One-Day Cup. Fast bowler Lance Morris has been recalled to the 50-over squad after his last appearance against Pakistan in November. The Australia pacer has battled back injuries in recent seasons, has been carefully managed by the selectors but remains highly regarded as an all-format prospect. Morris claimed 13 wickets at 20.84 in last season's Sheffield Shield and 15 wickets in eight outings for Perth Scorchers in the BBL. Hardie produced two useful knocks, including helping secure victory in the final match of the West Indies series. From the ODI squad that last featured in the Champions Trophy in March, Fraser-McGurk, Connolly, Hardie, Sean Abbott and Tanveer Sangha have all been omitted, along with injured paceman Spencer Johnson. The matches against South Africa will be Australia's first in the format since the retirements of Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell from one-day cricket. The series between Australia and South Africa will begin with the T20Is, with the first two matches scheduled in Darwin on August 10 and 12, followed by the final game in Cairns on August 16. The ODI series will start on August 19, with the opening match in Cairns, before concluding with two games in Mackay on August 22 and 24.
