'Dug deep': de Minaur equals Alcaraz feat in Washington
Seventh-seeded de Minaur out-gunned big-serving Czech Jiri Lehecka 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 to power into the last eight at the Washington Open, the scene of the Australian's maiden ATP 500 final in 2018.
De Minaur's supreme returns and counter-punching yielded three breaks while he also crunched eight aces in dropping serve only twice in a tight encounter lasting two and three quarter hours.

The world No.13 could have got it done much quicker had he not double-faulted on his second match point in the second-set tiebreaker.
De Minaur then failed to serve out the match at 5-2 in the deciding set before responding with a love service hold to close out the contest.
"I dug really deep," the world No.13 said.
"I didn't want to lose having a match point in the second set and hitting a double fault.
"I told myself I was going to struggle to sleep at night, so I better do everything I can to try and win that match. It was a tough, tough match."
With his 39th ATP 500 victory since the start of 2023, de Minaur tied Alcaraz for the most wins at that level during that period.
In promising signs ahead of next month's US Open, the 26-year-old also boasts a tour-leading 19 wins on hard courts this season.
Playing his first event since suffering a deflating fourth-round loss to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, de Minaur next faces American Brandon Nakashima for a place in the final four.
Nakashima progressed to his 20th ATP Tour quarter-final with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Brit Cameron Norrie.
Former world No.1 and 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev also advanced with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Chinese qualifier Wu Yibing.
Down to 17th in the rankings, the Russian is surprisingly chasing his first title since May of 2023.
Medvedev will play French qualifying lucky loser Corentin Moutet in the last eight.

Ben Shelton takes down Francis Tiafoe in DC Open quarter-finals
Ben Shelton continued his dominant run at the Mubadala Citi DC Open on Friday night with a 7-6(2), 6-4 victory over Francis Tiafoe, who was the hometown favorite in Washington. Shelton and Tiafoe are no strangers to one another. They played doubles together a few days ago and have now met four times in ATP Tour events. "We know tennis is a long journey. We're going to play each other a bunch of times. Especially, we've already played on the hard courts, we've already played twice at the US Open, and he beat me the most recent time. It's tough not to cheer for a guy like that,' Shelton said. The first set stayed on serve until the 11th game, when Tiafoe broke Shelton to love. The former Florida Gator bounced back immediately, breaking Tiafoe and forcing a tie-break. Shelton used his power forehand to claim the first set, delivering a 144 mph serve in the process. Shelton broke first in the second set at 3-3, and it was cruise control from there. The win puts Shelton ahead, 3-1, in the Head2Head series. Shelton already secured the No. 7 spot on the rankings by making the quarter-finals, but every win gets him closer and closer to No. 6 Novak Djokovic, who many consider to be the greatest of all time. It's a 600-point gap to close, but winning this tournament would cut that number in half. Winning the Washington 500 seems very doable with top-seeded Taylor Fritz falling in the quarters against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Shelton is now the highest-seeded player remaining in the tournament. Still, he will have to get by Davidovich Fokina before facing the winner of the 7-seed Alex de Minaur vs. lucky loser Corentin Moutet. De Minaur and Moutet are scheduled to begin not before 7 p.m. ET, and Shelton vs. Davidovich Fokina will follow — so drink some coffee. Barcelona star sends farewell message to club's fans
A departing member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has bid a fond farewell to all in Catalunya's capital. The player in question? Pau Víctor. Frontman Víctor is for his part of course fresh off seeing his departure from Barcelona made official. Following a quickfire round of talks with Portuguese outfit SC Braga, the Camp Nou brass sanctioned a deal for the 23-year-old to depart on a permanent basis this weekend. As much brings to an end what was a short-lived stint for Víctor on Barcelona's books, spread between the club's reserve outfit, and first-team. Evidently, though, across this time, the Blaugrana made a deep impact on the versatile attacker from a personal standpoint. This comes with Víctor having taken to his official social media accounts, to bid a heartfelt farewell to the Spanish champions: 'Today marks the end of a chapter that has shaped my life. A chapter that has been much more than football: it has been a dream come true. First with Barça Atlètic, then with the first team… but always with the same feeling: that of a kid who grew up dreaming of wearing this shirt. Defending this badge has been an immense honor, both at the Johan and at Montjuïc, always with the pride of being part of a unique club. Because Barça is not just a club. It's a feeling that fills you, transforms you, and makes you better. Thank you to all the coaches, teammates, club staff, and fans who have accompanied me on this journey. I take with me friendships, values, lessons, and memories that I'll carry with me forever. Now I head toward new challenges, with my head held high and my heart full. With the same passion, the same commitment, and the eternal pride of having defended these colors, and a dream lived that will accompany me wherever I go. With all my gratitude, Forever a Culer.'
