DP World halves Romania-Turkey shipment times with Constanta upgrades
Speaking to Reuters, Kris Adams, Vice President of DP World Eastern Europe, said this was made possible as the company expands its Black Sea operations at the European Union's eastern border.
DP World slashes Black Sea shipping times
Last year, DP World more than doubled its container shipping capacity at Romania's largest Black Sea port of Constanta with the addition of a roll-on, roll-off (Ro-Ro) terminal and a logistics hub in western Romania. This year, it has added an integrated European logistics service out of Romania – offering road, sea, air and rail services – for clients in neighbouring Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia and Turkey.
A new scanner at the Constanta Ro-Ro terminal has reduced truck inspection times from 5-7 hours to 2 minutes.
Adams told Reuters: 'We have made huge strides in optimising maritime trade between Turkey and Constanta, improving the transit time by sea by 50 per cent.
'Istanbul-to-Bucharest shipments have been cut to under 30 hours, creating a viable alternative to road transport.'
Adams said the Constanta upgrades cost a total of 130 million euros (US$151 million) so far, but more would follow as there is growth potential in automotive, e-commerce and renewable energy cargo.
'We're looking at ultimately investing over 200 million euros (US$232.5 million). There will be more in staff, in a digital platform and we have an ambition to operate contract logistics, so that means that we will, at some stage, be operating warehouses but it is too early to comment,' Adams added.
Constanta is a gateway to Central Asia and provides access to the Danube river and Western Europe. Its importance has also grown as companies relocate operations to Eastern Europe's low-cost manufacturing hubs to shorten supply chains.

Mohammed bin Rashid reviews development of Mina Al Hamriya
'We're transforming our ports into dynamic gateways that not only connect the world and accelerate the flow of goods but also drive innovation and opportunity. Our goal isn't just to compete, but to lead global trade with a transformative vision and new standards. We want Dubai to be the first choice for traders, the trusted route for commerce, and the most dynamic hub in the world's supply chains,' His Highness said. During the tour, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was briefed on the port's strategic role in supporting the UAE's food security and facilitating trade across the Arabian Gulf, particularly in perishables and livestock. DP World officials also outlined future infrastructure plans to meet surging regional demand. His Highness also approved a major project at Mina Al Hamriya involving the construction of a 700-metre quay with a 12-metre draft, designed to accommodate larger vessels and expand the port's cargo-handling capability. These developments build on the port's 2024 expansion, which added 1,150 metres of quay wall and significantly boosted berthing capacity. The port now handles a growing mix of steel vessels, breakbulk cargo, RoRo, containers and traditional wooden dhows – preserving its legacy while embracing modern logistics. The port now offers a total of nearly 6.4 million sq. ft of storage space, up from 3.4 million, supporting Dubai's growing trade ambitions. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, said, 'Mina Al Hamriya has been a vital part of Dubai's trade sector for many decades, and we are committed to investing in the port's growth while preserving its rich maritime heritage. This new expansion project will ensure Mina Al Hamriya continues to support our national economic vision while strengthening trade and food security across the region.' Once a local hub for wooden dhows, Mina Al Hamriya now handles a range of commodities with key markets in neighbouring countries. It remains a critical gateway for fruits and vegetables as well as livestock, with imports expected to reach 1 million head of cattle in 2025. Since last year's upgrade, the port has also registered an 11% increase in vessel calls, rising from 2,430 in the first half of 2024 to 2,700 in the first half of 2025, reflecting strong customer demand. In H1 2025, the port handled trade worth approximately AED9.07 billion. The expansion of the port underlines Dubai's continued investment in agile and future-ready infrastructure to enhance trade resilience and strengthen its position as a global maritime hub.

ADQ completes acquisition of majority stake in Aramex
ADQ, an active sovereign investor focused on critical infrastructure and global supply chains, announced on Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of logistics provider Aramex. Adq said in a statement that the voluntary tender offer for Aramex, submitted by its wholly owned indirect subsidiary Q Logistics Holding LLC, has become unconditional. ADQ will now become the majority shareholder in Aramex, with an ownership of 63.16 per cent of shares when combined with the shareholding held by AD Ports Group, in which ADQ holds a majority stake. This follows the receipt of all required antitrust and foreign direct investment regulatory approvals, as well as statutory exemptions and waivers from relevant governmental authorities within and outside the UAE, along with the satisfaction (or waiver) of all other conditions to the offer. The acquisition of a controlling stake in Aramex strengthens ADQ's position in the services layer of the logistics ecosystem, which includes express delivery, freight forwarding, third-party logistics, and warehousing. These functions are critical to enabling seamless trade flows and linking transport infrastructure to end users. With operations in over 65 countries, a leading trucking network in the GCC, and 800,000 sqm of global warehousing, Aramex brings scale, capabilities, and geographic reach. Its integration into ADQ's portfolio accelerates the development of a fully integrated, multimodal logistics platform that supports regional trade and economic growth. Mansour AlMulla, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of ADQ, commented: 'ADQ's majority shareholding in Aramex marks a strategic step toward advancing our vision to build a globally integrated logistics platform anchored in the UAE. Aramex brings strong capabilities and operational depth that complement our existing investments across air, sea, and land infrastructure. Its addition enhances the services layer of the logistics value chain and supports the development of end-to-end trade and supply chain solutions. We believe Aramex is well positioned to unlock long-term value through greater integration with ADQ's broader portfolio, and we are confident in its ability to deliver sustainable growth.' Aramex will become part of ADQ's Transport & Logistics cluster, which plays a central role in advancing multimodal connectivity and reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a global transport and logistics hub. The payment of consideration to Aramex Shareholders is to take place on July 25, and Aramex Shares will be registered in the name of Q Logistics Holding LLC the same day.
