"We're very excited to welcome Jacque and [his wife] Laura into the fold," Kansas coach Bill Self said in a statement. "I've known Jacque from a distance for several years now and have always admired how he has conducted himself professionally and how he has treated people. I think he will be an excellent addition to our program, while also serving as a great mentor, coach and representative of Kansas basketball. We lost an awesome coach in Norm [Roberts] when he retired but feel very fortunate to have replaced him with a tremendous Jayhawk that has a unique and impressive resume."
Vaughn spent four seasons at Kansas from 1993-97. He averaged 9.6 points and 6.4 assists per game throughout his career there while earning Big 8 Player of the Year honors and twice being a consensus All-American. The Jayhawks made it to the Sweet 16 three times and the Elite Eight while Vaughn was with the program, too.
Vaughn, who was selected with the No. 27 overall pick in the draft, played in the league for 12 seasons. He was a member of the San Antonio Spurs when they won the NBA Finals in 2007, too. Vaughn was first hired as an assistant coach with the Spurs in 2010, and he remained there under Gregg Popovich for two seasons before he was hired for the head job in Orlando.
Vaughn spent three seasons leading the Magic, though they went just 58-158 under his watch. He landed in Brooklyn as an assistant ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, and he was then promoted to head coach during the 2022-23 season after Steve Nash was fired just seven games in. Vaughn never got a full season running the team, though. He was fired late the following season.
Vaughn will now join Self's staff in Lawrence and attempt to help a Kansas program that has struggled to live up to expectations in recent seasons. After winning the national championship in 2022, the Jayhawks have failed to make it out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament in three straight seasons. They've been ranked No. 1 in the nation to start the past two years, too, before largely falling apart down the stretch. The Jayhawks went 21-13 last season and fell to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
While it will take more than Vaughn simply coming aboard to turn the blueblood program around, his presence will undoubtedly help that effort.

LSU's Garrett Nussmeier projects to be a second generation NFL QB

LSU's Garrett Nussmeier projects to be a second generation NFL QB Garrett Nussmeier got his collegiate career started right- throwing for 395 yards and three touchdowns in his debut, earning Reliaquest Bowl MVP honors along the way. There is no denying that the 2026 NFL Draft will be rich in quarterback prospects. How rich depends on how many of the top tier QB prospects forgo some of their remaining NCAA eligibility and declare early. As of now, the elite grouping consists of LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, Clemson's Cade Klubnik, South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers Texas' Arch Manning and Penn State's Drew Allar. Nussmeier has something the other names on that list do not- NFL bloodlines. His father, Doug Nussmeier, played a couple seasons in the league, and he's currently the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator. Garrett Nussmeier got his collegiate career started right- throwing for 395 yards and three touchdowns in his debut, earning Reliaquest Bowl MVP honors along the way. Now he's rated by some to be the second best QB prospect in the upcoming class. Yes, the son also rises, as Ernest Hemingway famously said. Nussmeier waited his turn behind all-world QB Jayden Daniels at LSU, and he's utilized his playing time opportunities to put up big numbers. His decision making and arm strength are top notch. He's a very accurate pocket passer who plays the game in a way that could best be described as gutsy. However, there are concerns about his size. Plenty of scouts question his ability to take the inevitable pounding at the next level.

Shilo Sanders Turns Heads With Apple Watch Drop for Colorado Players

Shilo Sanders Turns Heads With Apple Watch Drop for Colorado Players originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shilo Sanders may be in the NFL now, but the former Colorado safety is still finding ways to influence the Buffaloes program he helped elevate. Advertisement In a recent video posted by defensive lineman Tawfiq Thomas, many other Colorado players showed off Apple Watches gifted by Sanders, now a rookie safety with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thomas celebrated the moment by flashing his new piece of technology and wrote, 'Apple Watch after workout. Yes sir, Shilo!' The group of Buffs joined in by doing 'The Shedeur," honoring Shilo's younger brother and former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. His gift carried a deeper message that despite moving on, he remains connected to the program. During his time in Boulder, Sanders was known as a vocal leader and a presence on and off the field. He embraced recruiting efforts and took ownership of the defense, often urging prospective players to reach out directly. Now, his leadership takes a new form by reminding current players that the brotherhood doesn't end when players leave campus. The Apple Watches may draw attention, but the real value lies in the message of loyalty and legacy. Mr. Soundoff Says: New NCAA $ettlement won't fix problems, just create more

Mr. Soundoff Says – On Friday a monumental decision was made within the will begin directly paying their athletes, thanks to a legal settlement approved in federal in July, each school will be able to spend just over 20 million dollars a year in paying college athletes directly. While this new law is designed to level the playing field, John Sears says it won't do anything except widen the gap and create more problems. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
