ESPN teammate chides Stephen A. Smith as new SiriusXM Radio radio show drama continues
ESPN's Joe Fortenbaugh, who co-hosts 'Carlin vs. Joe' weekdays from 12-3 p.m. ET on ESPN Radio, called out Stephen A. Smith on Thursday over his new show that will now compete in that time slot in a back-and-forth that alternated between joking and serious tones.
The exchange came on the heels of Michelle Beadle calling out Smith after the reveal that his new show would take her spot on SiriusXM, which led to her and co-host Cody Decker being fired.

'This guy, what's with this new radio show?' Fortenbaugh asked Smith on 'First Take' on Thursday. 'You realize you're going up against me and my time slot, aren't ya? What are ya doing?'

Smith, whose show is set to launch Sept. 2 on Mad Dog Sports Radio, per The Hollywood Reporter, then defended his actions and attempted to play nice.
'I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sorry to hear that,' Smith said before Game 1 of the NBA Finals. 'I didn't take that into consideration, but opportunities arose, not just for me, myself, but for my production company and I couldn't turn it down. I'm sure you could appreciate that. You're a star here at ESPN, but if you ever need another job, I'm happy to bring you on board, I love you, Joe, you know that.'

'First Take' host Molly Qerim then asked Fortenbaugh if she will have to choose who she's going to listen to and that's when the the latter took a dig at Smith.

'It's not a decision. You listen to so much of this all day, do you want more of this?' Fortenbaugh said.
Qerim responded: 'You're right. I'm not listening to SiriusXM radio, I got you.'

Smith didn't seem to take her remarks in a joking fashion.

'I'm not interested in Molly listening to me, I really am not. That's not my target audience,' Smith said. 'There's a whole bunch of ladies out there that show me a hell of a lot more love than she ever would, and a whole bunch of people like Joe who would show me more love as well. I'm not worried.'
Qerim then clapped back.
'I got it, your target audience is yes men and yes women, OK, not people that give you the truth,' she said.
Smith retorted: 'Call it whatever you want.'

This exchange adds to a week in which Smith has come under fire from Beadle since his arrival led to her exit.
Beadle said she was 'blindsided' and 'really embarrassed' upon learning of the fate of her 'Beadle and Decker' show through a report, and then went after Smith.
Smith will also have a second show with SiriusXM.

'I don't respect him,' Beadle told Front Office Sports. 'I don't respect his work. He doesn't like me. This goes back to the Ray Rice stuff. He made some really piggish comments on the air. I responded; he got suspended for like two weeks. I think that was sort of the beginning of the end for anything.
'I just don't respect him. I think he gets things wrong all the time. I'm not talking about opinions; those can never be wrong. But factually, when you spread yourself so thin, it's hard to be right. Not a fan.'
Smith attempted to distance himself from the manner in which Beadle learned of the developments.

'I want to state for the record just so everyone knows what kind of man I am and what kind of teammate I am. I had no idea that folks did not know,' Smith said Wednesday on SiriusXM's VSiN Live program with Patrick Meagher and Dustin Swedelson prior to Beadle's Front Office Sports interview.
'I was told by SiriusXM to wait until this morning on 'The Howard Stern Show' to make the announcement. Whatever communication they had with anybody who's there, where they're staying, where they're being moved to. Who's staying, who's going or whatever. It's none of my business.'

ESPN Touts Caitlin Clark's Actions Before Fever-Wings Game
ESPN Touts Caitlin Clark's Actions Before Fever-Wings Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For Fever star Caitlin Clark, 2025 has been a season of firsts, and not necessarily in a good way. She missed a preseason game with a minor quad problem that, it turns out, should have been a red flag--Clark has not been healthy for a significant stretch of this WNBA season since. She played the first week of the WNBA season, then missed three weeks. Clark played for 10 days, then missed two more weeks. Finally, Clark came back for a week in early July, just before Indiana was to host the WNBA All-Star game, and got injured again. This time, it is her right groin that is the problem, and it's been a full four weeks since she last took the floor. Still, Clark--who had never missed a game in the WNBA or in college before this season-- has tried to stay engaged with her teammates and, perhaps more important, with the fans. That was again the case on Tuesday when the Fever played Dallas at home, a game televised on ESPN. Clark was still in civvies, but ESPN highlighted her before the game, putting in her time with fans signing autographs. "Caitlin Clark is for the fans," the post read. Caitlin Clark: 'I Do Feel This Responsibility' That's been important for Clark throughout her injury ordeal this season. She has appeared in only 13 games, but she understands that, for better or worse, she is the face of the new WNBA and a big part of the reason attention on the league has surged. It may be unfair, but Clark has graciously said she has an obligation to do what she can for fans who paid to see her play, not to sit in street clothes. "It's hard, because obviously I do feel this responsibility of being out there and playing," Clark told Sue Bird on her "Bird's Eye View" podcast. Clark explained, she does not think the WNBA revolves around her, but that she does feel she wants to give paying customers a show: "And not that I think there's a fear of any of this going away. That doesn't happen when like, LeBron or Steph get hurt. [Fans] are always going to be there. But you do want to play, you want to give people something to cheer about or scream about." There is no timetable for Clark's return, though the team has been upbeat about the possibility. Still, there are now only 11 games on the Fever's remaining slate, meaning there is a distinct possibility Clark will not play again this year. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Stephen A. Smith says he and LeBron James have ‘no relationship' after bitter feud
Things did not end on a good note with Stephen A. Smith and LeBron James. During an appearance on former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas' 'Gil's Arena' podcast Friday, Smith said that he has zero contact with James and does not have any interest in ever speaking to him again. 'There's no situation and there's no relationship,' Smith said. 'He doesn't like me, and I don't like him.' Advertisement 3 Stephen A. NBAE via Getty Images Smith's comments stem from his feud with the 21-time All-Star earlier this year, when the two threw jabs at each other during various appearances on ESPN, which ultimately led to an in-person confrontation during a game in March. The ESPN sports personality added that other things happened between him and James 'behind the scenes' that the public does not know about. Advertisement 'All I would say is people don't know the things that have happened behind the scenes,' Smith said. 'Things that have been said, who they've been said to. The kind of things that have been engaged in in an effort to hurt me, along with contemporaries and others.' Smith also mentioned how he did not appreciate how James came at him on 'The Pat McAfee Show,' which airs directly after 'First Take' on ESPN. 3 Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James arguing with the ref in the second half of a game against the Knicks. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post 'There's a lot of s–t that I don't say. And there's a reason that I feel the way that I do. And the last straw was him approaching me and turning the Bronny thing into something about me attacking somebody's family, when it was him I was talking about. Not Bronny. Now, people can get into all kind of components that go into it and all that other stuff. I have nothing to say.' 3 Stephen A. Advertisement 'I'm never going to denigrate any employer, any partner, or myself by getting into anything excessively, unnecessarily, when it comes to him or anybody else,' Smith said. 'I'm going to do my job. I'm going to cover the game of basketball. 'But if I never, ever speak to him again in life, that will be OK. And I'm good with it.'
