New Delhi: The Centre is likely to launch a new and updated website for the registration of Waqf properties this week. It also plans to hold deliberations with states on rules for governing Waqf, sources said.In April this year, the Parliament had passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, aiming to modernise Waqf administration, reduce legal disputes, and improve efficiency. It also seeks to fix issues in the 1995 Act and the 2013 Amendment.The pleas seeking stay on the Waqf Act were heard by the Supreme Court and the apex court has reserved its judgement.The Centre is also planning to launch a new website for registration of Waqf properties this month within a stipulated time of six months. The new website will have full details of Waqf properties across the country, including those of their Mutawallis.The Centre is working on framing rules for the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, and plans to hold consultations with states as the state-level waqf boards would be under the purview of the state governments and would also have representation from the state governments.After these deliberations and following the Supreme Court judgement, the Centre might notify the rules for Waqf properties and other functioning of Waqf boards.

Agra: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's adviser Awanish Kumar Awasthi on Friday, chaired a meeting at the tourist facilitation centre in Vrindavan, to discuss issues related to the proposed Banke Bihari Corridor with members of the Goswami community involved in the management of the temple, local shopkeepers and residents. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Awasthi said the proposed project aims to enhance facilities for pilgrims, and efficiently manage the increasing pilgrim footfall in the Mathura-Vrindavan area. "The number of pilgrims visiting the area is rising exponentially. Today's meeting focused on how to effectively cater to this surge while ensuring public confidence and participation in the planning process. This was the first round of discussions, and it was very productive," he said. On concerns raised by the Goswami community regarding the project, Awasthi said several suggestions had been put forth during the meeting. "The district magistrate and other officials will carefully evaluate these inputs. Maharashtra achieves highest agro food exports in financial year 2024-25
N ashik: The state has achieved a 15% increase in its agricultural, processed, and food product exports, hitting an all-time high of Rs47,017 crore in the financial year 2024-25. This significant surge solidifies the state's position as a leading agricultural exporter. While the export volume for the financial year 2024-25 stood at 54.14 lakh tonnes, a slight dip from the 55.79 lakh tonnes recorded in 2023-24 fiscal, the substantial rise in value underscores a highly successful year. This data comes from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which operates under the Union Commerce Ministry. In the previous fiscal year (2023-24), the state's exports in this segment were around Rs40,898 crore. The state's diverse export portfolio includes a wide array of products such as bananas, grapes, onions, various other fruits, bovine meat, alcoholic beverages, and rice. The export of fresh fruits also registered a 17% rise, from Rs8,100 crore in 2023-24 to Rs9,500 crore in 2024-25. The export of fresh fruits in 2024-25 includes bananas (Rs2,839 crore), grapes (Rs2,781 crore), pomegranates (Rs371 crore), and others (Rs3,405 crore). Interestingly, exports of other fruits increased by 32% to Rs3,405 crore in 2024-25 as against Rs2,566 crore in the previous year. Other exports include pulses at Rs2,100 crore, cereal preparations at Rs2,093.43 crore, jaggery and confectionery at Rs1,620 crore, onions at Rs1,436 crore, and alcoholic beverages at Rs1,353.52 crore. Vice-president of Horticultural Produce Exporters' Association (HPEA) Vikash Singh said the rise in export is because of the incentives being given by the Centre and state in the food sector. "There is huge potential for export of bananas, and govt needs to focus on increasing its export," he said. "The APEDA has been taking measures to boost export of grapes for the past decade, particularly in European countries, and this is showing results. Just like grapes, the APEDA also needs to find new markets to increase the export of onions, particularly in European countries," he added. Singh further said the Centre should also provide green lanes at the JNPT Mumbai for containers of perishable goods for faster clearance. "In 2014, the Centre had made an announcement about a separate green lane for faster clearance for containers of perishable goods, but it is yet to be executed," he said. Supreme Court allows DOGE team to access Social Security systems with data on millions of Americans
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court cleared the way Friday for the Department of Government Efficiency to access Social Security systems containing personal data on millions of Americans. The court majority sided with the Trump administration in its first Supreme Court appeal involving DOGE, the team once led by billionaire Elon Musk. The three liberal justices dissented. The high court halted an order from a judge in Maryland restricting the team's access to the Social Security Administration under federal privacy laws. The agency holds sensitive data on nearly everyone in the country, including school records, salary details and medical information. The Trump administration says DOGE needs access to carry out its mission of targeting waste and fraud in the federal government. Musk had been focused on Social Security as an alleged hotbed of fraud. The billionaire entrepreneur, who has stepped back from his work with DOGE, has described it as a ' Ponzi scheme ' and insisted that reducing waste in the program is an important way to cut government spending. U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander in Maryland found that DOGE's efforts at Social Security amounted to a 'fishing expedition' based on 'little more than suspicion' of fraud, and allowing unfettered access puts Americans' private information at risk. Her ruling did allow access to anonymous data for staffers who have undergone training and background checks, or wider access for those who have detailed a specific need. The Trump administration has said DOGE can't work effectively with those restrictions. Solicitor General John Sauer also argued that the ruling is an example of federal judges overstepping their authority and trying to micromanage executive branch agencies. The plaintiffs say it's a narrow order that's urgently needed to protect personal information. An appeals court previously refused to immediately to lift the block on DOGE access, though it split along ideological lines. Conservative judges in the minority said there's no evidence that the team has done any 'targeted snooping' or exposed personal information. The lawsuit was originally filed by a group of labor unions and retirees represented by the group Democracy Forward. It's one of more than two dozen lawsuits filed over DOGE's work, which has included deep cuts at federal agencies and large-scale layoffs. The nation's court system has been ground zero for pushback to President Donald Trump's sweeping conservative agenda, with about 200 lawsuits filed challenging policies on everything from immigration to education to mass layoffs of federal workers.
