Xbox had a massive presence at Gamescom this year, but opted to dedicate a huge booth to demoing games not on its traditional hardware, but instead the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X. Officially announced earlier this year, rumors have been circulating about how much this powerful handheld would cost. Among the excitement of seeing Silksong and other games demoed on the new device, the only new bit of information we got was that the system will be available on October 16, less than two months from now, which makes the lack of any price information even more concerning.

The ROG Xbox Ally X is the latest handheld gaming device aiming to compete with the likes of the Steam Deck and Switch 2. Previous ROG handhelds have been well received for their power, but aren't as user-friendly as home consoles. Partnering with Xbox, this new iteration will have an overhauled UI that more closely mimics a console experience rather than present itself like a handheld PC. It will allow players to easily download and play games from all major PC storefronts, including Steam, Epic, Battle.net, and Xbox Game Pass.
The excitement of learning the release date is certainly dampened by not being able to preorder the device like we all thought we would, and the lack of an official price might mean the leaked prices of around $700 for the ROG Xbox Ally and over $1,000 for the X could be accurate. Of course, with the ever-changing economic landscape and tariff policies, we might need to brace for even higher prices.

On July 31, the White House announced a 15% tariff on Japan. The company said that it does not have plans to change prices in other countries, nor does it intend to hike the cost of accessories. However, Sony already raised prices for PlayStation consoles sold in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand in April, citing the same challenging environment. In some regions, Sony previously increased console prices in 2022 due to inflation, but U.S. markets were not impacted at the time. Some of Sony's peers have also announced pricing changes to gaming products amid the news of Trump's tariffs. Microsoft indicated in May that it would increase console prices by $80 to $100, while also increasing the prices of some games, controllers, and accessories. Nintendo chose to raise the prices of some accessories for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, but not the console itself.

Range Rover Velar EV Spied With Weird Aero and Cladding
The latest car news, reviews, and features. The Range Rover Velar embraces the idea of a Land Rover you keep clean, with a relatively low ride height and sleek lines (though it can still play in the dirt). A fully electric variant is in the pipeline, and our spy guy in Germany recently caught its prototype whipping around the Nürburgring. While the current Velar kind of looks like a regular Range Rover, just squished and swept back a bit, this prototype seems to be a little more visually front-heavy. The hood looks a bit shorter, and the area behind the second-row windows has some angular haunches to it. On the back, there are very pronounced spoilers above the rear window, split in the middle, plus a smaller spoiler below the window, kind of like a Cayenne Coupe. Heavily pronounced chunks along the sides of the roof, and big protrusions where the cargo area windows would normally be, caught my attention too. My first thought was that these are just disguise prosthetics to distract us from the car's true silhouette. But then again, this is the brand that bolted some lunch boxes to the side of the Defender and pushed it to production. The Defender's OEM exterior cargo boxes look silly, but have their uses. Land Rover It could be that the Velar will have some exaggerated, integrated roof rack rails and some kind of funky design feature in the back, similar to the Defender's optional box. Or maybe it's just some interesting aero going on in the back to squeeze more electric driving range. We also get to see what the hatch opening looks like—a big clamshell that should provide a lot of access to the back. Rumor had it that the Range Rover Velar EV would be a 2026 model, but the 2025 calendar year doesn't have too many months left in it. So … we'll see. PS5 Price Increases Hit US Gamers This Week
Sony will increase the prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles in the US, starting Thursday, Aug. 21. This follows the trend of console manufacturers such as Microsoft and Nintendo raising prices for their hardware in response to tariffs. The PlayStation-maker posted about the pricing on Wednesday. The jump in price is $50 more than the current price for each model. Sony says accessories have not increased in price, and this cost hike only affect the U.S. Back in March, Microsoft increased the price of the Xbox Series consoles back in May, and Nintendo hiked the original Switch console price and Switch 2 accessories earlier this month. While the companies didn't point to the tariffs instituted by President Donald Trump as the reason for the hardware price jump, it would explain the trend in recent months.
