Fire ban in immediate effect across Elgin County
St. Thomas, Aylmer and municipalities within Elgin County are under the ban, which remains in effect until further notice.
Open-air fires are defined as bonfires, campfires, burn barrels, outdoor fireplaces/chimineas or any other fire in open air.
All burn permits are suspended, and any open-air fires should be reported immediately.
The Elgin County ban follows an open-air fire ban in both Huron and Perth County earlier this week.
Both bans have been imposed due to extreme dryness of vegetation in the area and lack of rain.

Fire ban lifted after two weeks in Barrie
A fire ban put into place earlier this month for the City of Barrie has finally lifted, after Mother Nature provided a break from the sweltering hot, humid and persistently dry conditions. The fire danger rating hit extreme on August 7 for Barrie and much of Simcoe County due to the brittle, dry conditions, prompting the total fire burn that prohibited any outdoor burning of any kind. According to the City, the fire danger rating has now dropped from extreme to moderate. What does that mean for residents? Residents are now allowed to use approved outdoor solid fuel-burning appliances with a valid OSFBA Permit, and open-air burning is once again permitted. There are currently no restricted fire zones in Ontario, according to the Ontario government.
