
CM Rakshak Padak for 4 cops, saved 11 from canal

on Friday honoured four police officers for their heroic efforts in rescuing 11 people — including five children — after a car plunged into the Sirhind Canal in Bathinda earlier this week.
He announced CM Rakshak Padak for them, to be awarded at the state-level Independence Day function.
At a ceremony at his official residence, Mann felicitated members of the Police Control Room (PCR) team: Assistant sub-inspectors Rajinder Singh and Narinder Singh, along with constables Jaswant Singh and Harpal Kaur. The CM praised their swift and courageous response during the July 23 incident as "inspiring example of public service".
ASI Narinder Singh was the first to jump into the canal to save the passengers.
Constable Jaswant Singh, who cannot swim, nonetheless followed him into the water to assist in the rescue. Mann also commended members of the public and other PCR staff who had helped evacuate the victims safely. He congratulated Bathinda senior superintendent of police Avneet Kaundal and her team for their coordination and commitment. He expressed hope that their actions would serve as a model for cops across Punjab.

Gunshots fired for recording reel injures cab driver; two held
Gunshots allegedly fired for recording a reel ended up injuring a 24-year-old cab driver in Southeast Delhi's Badarpur, police said on Sunday, adding that two men have been apprehended. Another accused is on the run. According to the police, the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, when the Gurgaon-based cab driver, identified as Gautam Saini, was with the accused at a house in the Molarband Extension area. 'Saini was called by one of the accused, Rakesh, to party in Badarpur. They had drinks and even made reels together,' a police officer aware of the investigation said. The officer added that the accused have claimed that as they made the reel, they fired in the air and Saini was accidentally injured. It is still being confirmed if the incident was an accident, police said. 'On July 27, at 06:07 am, a PCR call was received at the Badarpur police station from Apollo Hospital regarding a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) of a gunshot injury sustained by one Gautam Saini,' DCP (South East) Hemant Tiwari said. The police said that upon reaching the hospital, it was found that Saini had a gunshot injury on his head. 'After initial treatment, the family shifted him to AIIMS trauma centre. His condition remains critical but stable. A case has been filed under Section 109 of the BNS and the Arms Act,' DCP Tiwari said. A police officer said that Gautam previously had eleven cases filed against him, while the two accused also have multiple cases registered against them.

78-year-old woman crushed to death by a speeding bus near Peeragarhi Metro Station
New Delhi: In a hit-and-run incident, a 78-year-old woman was crushed to death after being run over by a speeding private bus near Peeragarhi Metro Station in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar area on Sunday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The victim, identified as Sayogita, a resident of Rohtak in Haryana, was found in a severely crushed state, with police confirming she was declared dead at the hospital. According to police, a PCR call was received around 1.35 pm on July 27, reporting an accident near Orabella Banquet Hall between Metro Pillars 277 and 278, along the Nangloi-to-Peeragarhi stretch. "Acting on the information, a police team rushed to the spot and found an elderly woman lying motionless on the road. Crime and forensic teams were immediately called for inspection and documentation," said a senior police officer, adding, "Her body was in a badly crushed condition and was transported to a government hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. " During inspection of the woman's belongings, police recovered an Aadhaar card identifying her as Sayogita, wife of Bal Mukund, a resident of Haryana's Rohtak. In her purse, officers also found a small personal diary containing a handwritten mobile number. The number was dialled, and officers were able to reach out to her brother Narender (70) to inform of the incident. "Sayogita was perfectly fit and healthy. She would often visit me and my brother in Delhi, usually getting off at the Peeragarhi bus stop where buses from Rohtak arrive. Since it was Teej, and Raksha Bandhan was coming up, she decided to come for a few days and stay with us. But the only call we received from her phone was from the police, informing us of her death," her brother, Narender told TOI. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now An eyewitness, Kuljeet Kumar, 60, a local resident of Peeragarhi Camp, told the police that a yellow and silver private bus with the marking 'RDT' had hit the woman and fled the scene without stopping. Based on his account and preliminary investigation, cops have registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others.) and 106 (death due to negligence) of BNS at the Paschim Vihar West police station. The offending vehicle has been identified, and teams are working to apprehend the absconding driver. Investigation is ongoing.
