Guwahati:
Security forces
shot dead 10 militants during an encounter in Manipur's Chandel district bordering Myanmar.
The Eastern Command of the
Indian Army
confirmed the deaths through a post on 'X' on Wednesday night.
The confrontation took place near border pillars where the recent fencing work had commenced along the India-Myanmar frontier. Due to the location's remoteness, police personnel dispatched to the site had not returned to Molcham police station by Thursday evening, with detailed information expected by Friday.
While the identities of the deceased remain undisclosed, sources said they might belong to Myanmar-based
militant groups
traversing through dense forest areas on Indian territory.
"Security forces tracked their movement based on intelligence inputs. It remained unclear whether these militants had camps in the area," a source said.
He added, "The encounter took place in a small hilly terrain. Despite rain and adverse weather, the operation continued until Thursday."
The encounter location, situated approximately 130 kilometres from Imphal, lacks mobile connectivity and has sparse population.

The area, predominantly inhabited by Kuki tribals across both sides of the border, lies within the Naga-majority Chandel district. Manipur shares a 398-kilometre porous border with Myanmar.
"Acting on specific intelligence on the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village, Khengjoy Tehsil, Chandel District near the Indo-Myanmar border, an Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps launched an operation on May 14, 2025," the Eastern Command of the Army said on X, Wednesday night.
The Army stated that during the operation, troops came under fire from suspected cadres and retaliated in a 'calibrated' and 'measured' manner.
"In the ensuing firefight, 10 cadres were neutralised, and a sizeable quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered," read the post.
Security forces have apprehended seven militants of various banned organisations within 24 hours across Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts. These individuals were primarily involved in extortion and abduction activities targeting traders, commercial establishments and civilians.
The ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur has claimed nearly 260 lives and displaced over 60,000 people in two years, while Myanmar is experiencing civil unrest following the 2021 military coup.

Vijay Mallya Opens Up About Returning To India: "If I Get Assurance Of..."
Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has stated that he would consider returning to the country if he is assured of a fair trial in connection with accusations of defaulting on loans worth several crores from Indian banks. In a rare and candid four-hour conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani, Mr Mallya, who is wanted in India for alleged loan defaults, addressed the allegations against him, the downfall of Kingfisher Airlines, and his potential return to India. He said he would "seriously consider" returning to India if he is assured of a fair trial and a dignified existence in his home country. "If I have a fair assurance of a fair trial and dignified existence in India, I will think about it (returning to India) seriously..." Mr Mallya told the podcaster. On being called "fugitive" and "fraud" because he chose not to come back to India, Mr Mallya said it was "fair". However, he questioned why he is being called a "chor" (thief) and where is the "chori" (theft). "Call me a fugitive for not going to India post-March (2016). I didn't run away, I flew out of India on a prescheduled visit. Fair enough, I did not return for reasons that I consider are valid, so if you want to call me a fugitive, go ahead, but where is the 'chor' coming from... where is the 'chori'?" he said. Elsewhere in the podcast, Mr Mallya opened up about Kingfisher Airlines' downfall. He said he approached then Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee with a plan to downsize the airline to save it. However, his request was met with opposition. He attributed much of the airline's troubles to the 2008 global financial crisis. The economic downturn had a significant impact on India, affecting nearly every sector of the economy, he said. "The money stopped. It got dry. The value of the Indian rupee also took a hit," Mr Mallya told the podcast host. Mr Mallya said that, recognising the worsening economic climate, he reached out to Pranab Mukherjee to seek permission to shrink Kingfisher's operations. "I went to Shri Pranab said I have a problem. Kingfisher Airlines needs to downsize, cut the number of aircraft, and lay off employees, as I can't afford to operate under these depressed economic circumstances," Mr Mallya said. However, he added that his appeal was rejected. "I was told not to downsize. You continue, banks will support you. That is how it all started." Mr Mallya added that despite these assurances, Kingfisher Airlines was ultimately compelled to halt all flights amid mounting financial troubles. Notably, Mr Mallya left Indian for the UK in March 2016. He has since resided in London, where he fought a prolonged legal battle against extradition to India.

YouTuber Jasbir Singh sent to two-day police remand on charges of spying for Pakistan
YouTuber Jasbir Singh sent to two-day police remand on charges of spying for Pakistan MOHALI: YouTuber Jasbir Singh , accused of spying for Pakistan, was sent to a two-day police remand by a Mohali court on Saturday. A resident of Mehlan village in Ropar district, Jasbir Singh was produced before the court by the Punjab Police's State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) after completing an earlier three-day remand. The SSOC sought an extension of seven days, citing the need to seize Singh's laptop and extract further information regarding his alleged links to a spy network. The government prosecutor told the court that further digital evidence was likely to emerge and needed examination to trace the full extent of the alleged espionage . However, Jasbir Singh's legal counsel contested the police claims, asserting that his client had been falsely implicated. The defence argued that Singh had initially been summoned through a formal notice and had fully cooperated with the police during two days of questioning. It was only afterwards, the lawyer said, that the police arrested him and labelled him a spy without solid grounds. After considering the arguments presented by both sides, the court ordered a two-day police remand, rejecting the SSOC's request for a longer duration. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере!
