Columbus police identify teen who died after early morning shooting on city's North Side
Columbus police have identified the teenage male who died after an early morning shooting on the city's North Side that also wounded a second person.
Ariyaun M. Burton, 17, and another male were found with gunshot wounds at about 4 a.m. Sunday, May 4, in a Toyota Rav4 SUV at the Sheetz on the 900 block of East Dublin-Granville Road (Route 161), Columbus police said. Officers rendered aid until Columbus Division of Fire medics arrived and transported the two victims to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Burton was pronounced dead at 4:38 a.m. at the hospital, police said in a news release several hours later. The other victim, whom police did not identify, was in stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries.
Police got a call at 3:58 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, about a shooting on the 900 block of East Lincoln Avenue near its eastern T dead-end with Roche Drive and Roche Place by the entrance to the Woodward Park Trail, just on the west side of Interstate 71.
A police dispatcher said the driver of a Toyota Rav4 SUV called 911 saying that he and his passenger had been shot and were fleeing the scene of the shooting. They were advised to drive into the Sheetz parking lot a short distance away to wait for first responders, who were also dispatched there.
Police investigating the shooting had placed at least 17 evidence markers around shell casings found in the street on East Lincoln near Roche, video footage from a local TV station at the scene showed.
At the Sheetz, the area around the Toyota SUV parked close to the convenience store was enclosed with crime scene tape. The rear window of the vehicle appeared to have been shot out. Police did not provide information about any suspects or what led up to the shooting in the release identifying Burton.

6-year-old, 12-year-old killed in Terrebonne Parish crash
TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A 6-year-old and a 12-year-old are dead following a crash that happened in Terrebonne Parish on Thursday afternoon, June 5. According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop C began investigating the crash, which happened on Louisiana Highway 311 near Fellowship Lane, around 4 p.m. Hammond man accused of arson, attempted murder Troopers say a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by Cherri Breaux, was heading south on the highway when at the same time, a 2023 Kenworth was heading north. For reasons that are being investigated, the Toyota tried to turn left into a driveway, entering the path of the Kenworth and being hit on the right side. The driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and wasn't injured. All four of the Toyota's occupants were unrestrained and taken to multiple hospitals. Breaux received minor injuries and a juvenile passenger was moderately injured. The 12-year-old and 6-year-old passengers were severely injured and died at the hospital. A standard toxicology sample was taken from Breaux for analysis as part of the ongoing invesstigation. Three men to go on trial next year over fires linked to UK PM Starmer
LONDON (Reuters) -Three men all linked to Ukraine will go on trial next April accused of involvement in a series of arson attacks on houses and a vehicle in London connected to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a London court heard on Friday. Over five days last month, police were called to fires at a house in north London owned by Starmer, another at a property nearby where he used to live, and to a blaze involving a car that also used to belong to the British leader. Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych, 21, is charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life. Fellow Ukrainian Petro Pochynok, 34, and Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc, 26, who was born in Ukraine, are accused of conspiracy to commit arson. Lavrynovych and Carpiuc appeared by video-link at London's Old Bailey court on Friday where Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb set the trial for April 27 next year. Pochynok was not present for the hearing. In earlier hearings, prosecutors said the motive for the arsons was unclear. The men will enter formal pleas at a hearing in October, but the lawyers for Carpiuc and Pochynok said their clients denied involvement. Counter-terrorism police have led the investigation but none of the men have been charged with offences under terrorism laws or the new National Security Act, which was brought in to target hostile state activity. Police said the first fire involved a Toyota RAV4 car that Starmer used to own and sold to a neighbour. Days later, there was a blaze at a property where Starmer previously resided and the following day there was an attack on a house in north London that he still owns. Starmer, who has lived at his official 10 Downing Street residence in central London since becoming prime minister last July, has called the incidents "an attack on all of us, on our democracy and the values we stand for".
