Nevis visitor campaign will have a nostalgic feel

Travel Weekly2 days ago

A new marketing approach by the island of Nevis eschews the traditional colors of the Caribbean -- the blue of the ocean and sky, the green of palm trees, tawny sand -- and (mostly) replaces them with black and white.
As Caribbean Week in New York began, the island's premier, Mark Brantley, told Travel Weekly that he and his team at Nevis Naturally will be launching a campaign to connect with the luxury market emotionally via the nostalgic feel that black and white conveys when paired with elegant imagery.
He hopes to recall a wistful, romantic era, "how the Caribbean used to be."
"We're trying to evoke a timelessness. If you want seclusion, if you want courtesy, if you want that bespoke experience, then Nevis is the place to go," Brantley said.
Part of the motivation came from observing who has discovered the island on their own.
"Guests who come to us can afford to go anywhere," he said, "so why do they come to us? It's how we make them feel, and that's what we're trying to capitalize on. We've been progressing quietly, but we want the world to take notice. It's time to make a bit more noise. It's time that Nevis becomes part of the conversation."
Specifically, the conversations that take place at dinner parties in apartments along New York's Fifth Avenue and similar neighborhoods.
Nevis may have no stoplights or fast-food chains, but plans are in the works for a private jet facility.
"We've seen an explosion in villa construction," Brantley said. "We have people building $40 million homes. Nevis is the kind of place where you escape the hurly burly of success. You're in New York, you're in London, you're plugged in in L.A., and you just want to unwind with your family and spend quality time. If Covid taught us anything, it's the importance of time with loved ones and friends."
The black-and-white campaign, he said, aims to inspire with timeless elegance. "Imagine Greta Garbo or one of the greats from that era in a beautiful gown in a beautiful bar. It's emotion. We're trying to bring that back, and I think that that's beautifully done in black and white.
"It's going to be interesting," Brantley concluded. "As I said to our team, this is going to be a huge hit. Or a huge miss."

No transfer bids for Emi Martinez as Aston Villa star speaks out

Aston Villa haven't received any formal contact regarding goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who has dominated the transfer headlines since the end of the season. The 32-year-old's future has come under scrutiny after he was seen in tears at the end of Villa's final home game of the season against Tottenham last month. Advertisement Martinez signed a long-term contract extension in August but has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, other European clubs, and teams in Saudi Arabia. READ MORE: Nassef Sawiris agreement as expletive fired off in 'stupid' Man Utd transfer rant READ MORE: Manager warns that Aston Villa transfer target 'is not ready for the Premier League' He joined up with the Argentina national team over the weekend and remained coy about his future when asked. 'My future? I don't know,' he told the press. 'I'm here to play for the national team, and that's all I care about right now. Do I want to change clubs? The transfer market has just opened, so there's still a lot to happen.' Advertisement As it stands, no club has submitted a formal offer for Martinez. Meanwhile, Villa are not under a huge amount of pressure to generate significant funds through player sales this summer, thanks to the financial boost from their Champions League campaign. Unai Emery's side earned around £100 million after reaching the quarter-finals, where they were narrowly beaten 5–4 on aggregate by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain. However, after failing to qualify for next season's Champions League, they won't have such revenue to call on in the 2026 summer window. Hervé Léger Resort 2026 Collection

The word of the season for Hervé Léger's Michelle Ochs: allure. And her motto? 'Give her a reason to shop.' Ochs and her fellow designers have the Herculean task of inspiring a consumer that, as has been widely reported by industry trades, is becoming less interested in engaging with the luxury market. But she seems to be taking the new status quo in stride, you could say she's actually having some fun imbuing novelty into this decades-old label. (Hervé Legér turns 40 this year.) Resort, which covers the holiday season, is crucial for a label like Léger with a proven track record in event dressing. Ochs reports that they've 'gained traction' with the introduction of woven styles as complements to the brand's famous bodycon knits. Her loosening of other silhouettes has also helped her push things forward. There were other novelties, too. A venture into the Léger archives inspired the return of a basketweave technique; Ochs has placed it under the bust for an elegant and flattering effect. Another archive find is the stretch lace that Ochs used on slimming frocks. Also fun—and a good reason to shop—are a spray metallic ombré treatment Ochs has developed to imitate the brand's signature bandage effect without the actual layering, and a grommet-like foiling on a few separates that reads like both the actual hardware and a cooler version of a polka dot. Ochs has also been working on introducing leather, as on a sexy midi-length red slip, and on playing up transparency with mesh inserts. She's even venturing into tailoring. These have all been welcome introductions, which she reports her customer has been receptive to. Yet most impactful is what she's done to the bandage dress itself. Making it sometimes longer and occasionally looser, angling it or deconstructing it, she's embraced the icon without letting it dictate too much of her output. 'People are loving the variation in lengths we've been giving,' said Ochs. 'We're educating her that it's not just tight mini dresses!'
