Lionel Messi Strikes On Return Form Injury To Help Inter Miami Down LA Galaxy
Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez were all on target for the Herons, while Joseph Paintsil's lone strike for Galaxy proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Argentine superstar Lionel Messi marked his return to action, following a brief period on the sidelines due to a muscle injury, with a goal and an assist in Inter Miami's 3-1 win over LA Galaxy on Sunday.
Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez were all on target for the Herons, while Joseph Paintsil's lone strike for Galaxy proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Messi, who missed his side's previous three outings after picking up an injury during the team's Leagues Cup game against Mexican outfit Necaxa, was brought on as a substitute by head coach Javier Mascherano and went on to make the difference between the sides on the day, as he most often does.
'It had been something very small," Mascherano said of the star man's injury after the match.
'The three training sessions we had were good. The important thing is that the match ended. As the minutes went by, I saw him better. We have to see how he feels tomorrow," the Argentine added.
'We had planned the match to give minutes to Leo. The idea was to give him 45 minutes so that he can find sensations," Mascherano said.
'I didn't see him after the game. Tomorrow we'll see what feelings he had," the 41-year-old said.
'He's an extraordinary player. I saw that he was clearly not 100 percent comfortable but as the minutes went by he was loosening up more and more. We will have to see how he ended with the fatigue."
Messi now has 19 goals and 10 assists in 19 MLS appearances for Miami this season.
'He wants to play every single game," Mascherano said.
'You have to understand why Leo is Leo. He always wants to be on the pitch. He's happy there. Sometimes we try to explain him that we have to go slowly but when he feels good he knows himself like no one. In the end we tried to give him some minutes today to start having good feelings for Wednesday."

Beniwal fifer seals big win for South Delhi Superstarz vs Purani Dilli 6
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) Sumit Kumar Beniwal's fiery five-wicket haul helped South Delhi Superstarz script a comprehensive 46-run victory over Purani Dilli 6 in the Delhi Premier League here. Chasing a challenging 185, Purani Dilli 6 folded for 138 in 18.3 overs on Sunday. Beniwal grabbed 5/19 in his four overs), while Abhishek Khandelwal (4/31) added to the damage. Beniwal struck with back-to-back breakthroughs in the power play as Purani Dilli 6 crumbled to 28/6 inside eight overs. The only bright spot in their innings came from Ekansh Dobal, who stitched together a 46-run stand with Lalit Yadav (22 off 28) to bring some stability before Yadav was bowled by Beniwal. Dobal (63) carried on to reach a well-deserved half-century, but his lone hand was not enough. Batting first, South Delhi Superstarz scored 184. Their openers gave them the perfect start with Anmol Sharma and Ankur Kaushik putting on a 70-run partnership. While Kaushik departed for 21 off 17, Sharma anchored the innings with a fluent 50. The middle order faltered under pressure, but a crucial cameo from Vision Panchal in the closing stages lifted the total past 180. For Purani Dilli 6, Lalit Yadav (3/24) and Rajneesh Dadar (3/30) were the standout performers with the ball. Brief Scores: South Delhi Superstarz: 184 all out (Anmol Sharma 50, Vision Panchal 27; Lalit Yadav 3/24, Rajneesh Dadar 3/30). Purani Dilli 6: 138 all out in 18.3 overs (Ekansh Dobal 63, Lalit Yadav 22; Sumit Kumar Beniwal 5/19, Abhishek Khandelwal 4/31). South Delhi Superstarz by 46 runs. Ruben Amorim Positive Despite Manchester United's Losing Start: 'We Have Players To Win Any Game'
Last Updated: A weak challenge from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was one of United's few errors in a match that left their fans departing Old Trafford with a sense of positivity. Manchester United faced a defeat against Arsenal in their opening match on Sunday, but Ruben Amorim stayed optimistic and expressed that his revamped team is now capable of defeating any team in the Premier League as the club seeks to overcome last season's disappointing 15th-place finish. Riccardo Calafiori scored from an early corner, securing a 1-0 victory for Arsenal. A weak challenge from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was one of United's few errors in a match that left their fans departing Old Trafford with a sense of positivity. 'We have players to win any game in the Premier League," Amorim said, flashing a rare smile after the stern expression he carried throughout most of last season. 'We were more aggressive than last year. We went one against one all the game and we pressed high. We had quality with the ball." New signings Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford added speed and creativity to United's attack, with Cunha, who had three shots on target, arguably being the standout player on the pitch. 'We did a lot of things right," Amorim stated. 'We were more aggressive and brave. At key moments, I think Bryan and Cunha helped significantly. We stuck to our plan even when the stadium was tense; we continued to play our game, and that will benefit us in the future. '(The fans) want that feeling again. When we go to Old Trafford, we won't be bored. We need to win more than last season, but they want to experience something and feel something." United also appeared more composed defensively compared to last season, though the error from their Turkish goalkeeper raised concerns about that position in Amorim's lineup. Arsenal's William Saliba backed into Bayindir, who weakly fended off the ball with one hand, allowing Italian Calafiori to score with an easy close-range header. Amorim emphasised the need for United to match Arsenal's physicality during corners. 'If you watch the goal, I think players are allowed to do a lot in corners. We need to do the same," he commented. 'But when you touch the goalkeeper in that manner, he needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not push players, or he decides to push players and lets the ball past. 'But again, it is the rules. If he's allowed, we need to do the same thing." Bayindir was chosen over the usual starter Andre Onana, who has had only three training sessions after recovering from injury. Despite Onana's own mistakes last season, Amorim dismissed any queries regarding changes in the goalkeeper position.
