Kyren Williams leads by example as contract talks simmer in the background

Kyren Williams leads by example as contract talks simmer in the background While his future in Los Angeles remains unsettled, Williams is staying locked in and letting his consistency speak louder than his contract status.
As the Los Angeles Rams continue to navigate through offseason practices, one major storyline has left a positive impression on the organization: running back Kyren Williams isn't looking to make headlines, be a distraction, nor hold out. Instead the star running back continues to go to work.
Despite entering a contract year, the former fifth-round pick from 2022 has been consistently present through OTAs and continues to lead drills, work with his teammates, and help set the tone while bringing plenty of energy and effort. Head coach Sean McVay has been well aware through the process.
'He's been here, been leading, been doing exactly what Kyren does,' McVay said Tuesday. 'And so [we've] been pleased. We'll see if there's an opportunity to be able to land that plane.'
That exact "plane," McVay is quoting, is Williams' ongoing contract negotiations, which are led by one of the top agents in the game, Drew Rosenhaus, who also represents and negotiated the one-year deal worth $10 million for Williams' teammate, WR Tutu Atwell, earlier this offseason.
"Matthew Shearin (Senior Manager, Football Administration) has been outstanding in a lot of the communication as it relates to Drew and I feel like it's been really positive, McVay added. "And what I love is that Kyren has been here, been leading, been doing exactly what Kyren does, and so I've been pleased and we'll see if there's an opportunity to be able to land that plane. Good progress, but nothing to report as far as any deal right now.'
For Williams, the journey has been grind. After rushing for just 139 yards and zero touchdowns during his rookie season in 2022, the former All-American at Notre Dame has since totaled 2,443 yards and 26 touchdowns over the last two seasons and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2023 as well as a Second-Team All-Pro selection.
As they always say actions speak louder than words. With expectations climbing more than ever and his value trending up, Williams has continued to show that being a leader isn't about talk but its about being present and doing everything he can to help his team prepare for a new season with high expectations.

Rams' 25 most important players for 2025 – No. 10: LG Steve Avila

The Los Angeles Rams remade their offensive line in 2023 when they brought in Steve Avila and Kevin Dotson, who became top-end starters at guard that year. Avila was the Rams' top draft pick two years ago and though he can play both guard and center, he's found a home at the former and excelled. Heading into the 2025 season, Avila has the type of talent and potential to make the Pro Bowl and become one of the best guards in football. He's the clear-cut starter on the left side and with the Rams lacking a backup of his ability, his health and availability are critical to the offense's success. How he got here Avila was the 36th overall pick in 2023, entering the NFL after a successful career at TCU. He was the Rams' first pick that year, someone they really liked in the draft – and they didn't hesitate to take him in the second round. 2024 stats 10 games (10 starts): 19 pressures allowed, 3 sacks allowed, 50.6 pass-blocking grade, 70.6 run-blocking grade (via PFF) Projected role Avila will be the Rams' starting left guard for the third straight year, especially with there being no question marks about who will play center like there was last season with Jonah Jackson. After moving between guard and center last offseason, Avila is certain to be stationed at left guard with Coleman Shelton at center. As long as he's healthy, he'll play every snap on the O-line. Why he's important The Rams got a taste of what life was like without Avila last season when he missed seven games due to an MCL injury. In those seven games, Stafford was sacked 15 times, including 11 times in the first four games alone without Avila. Justin Dedich struggled mightily in his last two games before Avila returned and Logan Bruss was even worse while filling in at that spot. Those seven games really showed the value of Avila, who was by no means perfect in Year 2 but probably deserves more credit than his PFF grade suggests. He's an excellent run blocker and could still improve in pass protection, but he's absolutely an above-average starting left guard. The Rams need him to stay healthy, especially with Alaric Jackson uncertain at left tackle due to his blood clots. Follow Rams Wire on X, Facebook and Threads for more coverage!

What NFL execs, coaches think about Indianapolis Colts' OL Quenton Nelson

What does one NFL executive and defensive coach think about the Indianapolis Colts' Quenton Nelson? In not-surprising news, NFL executives and coaches think very highly of Indianapolis Colts' left guard Quenton Nelson. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently spoke to league executives, coaches, and scouts to compile his list of the top 10 interior offensive linemen ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Coming in at No. 3 was Nelson. Nelson made his seventh Pro Bowl last season and was again named a second-team All-Pro. This was Nelson's fifth All-Pro recognition, with three of those nods coming as a member of the first-team. Here is what one NFC executive had to say: "Honestly, nobody else has really taken the top spot from him," an NFC executive told Fowler. "I don't think there's a dominant interior OL right now. He's the closest thing." An NFL defensive coach then said this about Nelson's game: "He's more vulnerable with edge pressure than he used to at this stage of his career," a veteran NFL defensive coach said to Fowler. "But he's still really strong and stout at the point of attack." As Fowler noted in his rankings, Nelson had a 94.4 pass-block win rate last season, and his 77.1 run block win rate tied for first among the top 10 interior offensive linemen. With the Colts introducing two new starters to the interior offensive line this season, Nelson's presence becomes even more valuable.

Bears rookie Ozzy Trapilo drawing comparisons to Kyle Long

The Chicago Bears prioritized rebuilding the offensive line this offseason. Outside of adding key veterans in guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, as well as center Drew Dalman, they also found their potential starting left tackle in Ozzy Trapilo in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft. As Braxton Jones recovers from ankle surgery, Trapilo has an opportunity to steal the starting job away from him in his rookie season, and he's made quite the early impression. Bears reporter Adam Jahns of CHGO recently discussed Trapilo's early showings, comparing him to long-time Bears offensive lineman, and fan-favorite, Kyle Long. "On the field, Ozzy Trapilo looks like Kyle Long," Jahns said on the CHGO Bears podcast. "It's not just his (jersey) number, but physically, he's built like Kyle Long, he moves like Kyle Long. We know how good Kyle Long was here, albeit for a different position for the Chicago Bears." In his career, Long played left guard for seven seasons, mostly with the Bears. He also spent a brief stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, but never played a snap for them. During his time with Chicago, Long proved to have a nasty streak that made him beloved by the fans. Long was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and named Second-Team All-Pro in 2014. If Trapilo has even half of the impact that Long had with the Bears, he's sure to become another fan favorite, which isn't always the case for offensive linemen.
