
IndiGo flight hit by vultures at 4,000 feet, makes emergency landing at Ranchi airport; aircraft suffers damage
A Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight had to make an emergency landing at Ranchi after suffering a bird hit mid-air, officials said on Monday.
The IndiGo flight, carrying 175 passengers, made an emergency landing at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport after vultures hit the aircraft, the official said.
All the passengers and crew members are safe, PTI reported quoting the official.
However, the aircraft, which was an Airbus 320, suffered damage near the nose, the official said.
The vultures hit the IndiGo flight at about a 4,000 feet altitude.
'An IndiGo flight suffered a bird hit near Ranchi. It was approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles away from here at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 feet when the incident occurred,' Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, Director R R Maurya was quoted as saying by PTI.
'The IndiGo flight was coming from Patna to Ranchi, and the pilot had to make an emergency landing here,' Maurya added.
The IndiGo aircraft suffered a dent and engineers are assessing the damage, he said.
'The aircraft suffered a dent after being hit by a vulture. Engineers are assessing the damage.'
Another official said that the aircraft, which was coming to Ranchi, was scheduled to go to Kolkata.
IndiGo has however not made any statement regarding the incident.

Jewellery worth Rs 47lakh vanishes from Ganeshpeth home
Nagpur: In a case that has left both investigators and locals baffled, cash and high-value jewellery worth over Rs47 lakh disappeared from a locked cupboard in a Ganeshpeth home without any sign of forced entry. The theft was discovered on June 1 when an elderly couple returned to their home at Shri Laxmi Niwas, Marwadi Chawl, to check their valuables stored in an iron cupboard. What they found shocked them: all the cash and jewellery — including gold, diamonds, and platinum — were gone. "There was no sign of a break-in. The door was intact, the windows secure, the cupboard was locked, and the key was in its usual spot," said a senior police official of Ganeshpeth Police Station, who is heading the investigation. According to the police, the theft occurred sometime between 3pm on May 23 and 5pm on June 1. During this period, the couple's son, Sunny Gupta, 39 — was present in the house. His wife was away in Indore, and his parents left for their native village on May 23 for a family event. They returned to Nagpur on May 30. They learnt about the theft while checking the cupboard on June 1. The stolen items include jewellery and cash valued at Rs47,10,000. A case has been registered against an unknown accused under Section 305 of BNS. Sources said that the police are examining every possibility to look into how this robbery was pulled off. Investigators are checking for fingerprints, examining CCTV footage in the area, and questioning potential witnesses.

Karate teacher sentenced to 5-year RI for sexually harassing four students
Pune: The court of Special Judge Kavita Shirbhate convicted a 44-year-old karate teacher and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs40,000 for sexually harassing four students between 2018 and 2020. The teacher got an additional sentence of one year of imprisonment with a fine of Rs2,000 for wrongful confinement. If the fine of Rs40,000 is not paid, the accused will have to undergo additional imprisonment from 15 days to two months. If paid, the money will be equally disbursed among the victims as compensation. The court has also directed the Pune District Legal Services Authority to grant compensation to the victims. The teacher was, however, acquitted of charges of molestation and rape under provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The prosecution's case was that the Sahakarnagar police arrested the teacher on June 30, 2020, after the students approached them with a complaint accusing him of sexual harassment while teaching karate.
