Gabe Taylor, younger brother of the late Sean Taylor, attends Commanders rookie camp on a tryout
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Gabe Taylor, the younger brother of late Washington safety Sean Taylor, is attending Commanders rookie camp on a tryout.
The Commanders announced their camp roster Friday.
Taylor, a defensive back who played five seasons at Rice, went undrafted last month. The agency that represents him said Taylor picked Washington after receiving multiple offers because he grew up wanting to play for the team.
'Now he has the chance to make his mark, forge his own path, compete for a roster spot and honor the memory of Sean,' Creed Sports and Entertainment posted on social media. 'Gabe couldn't be more excited, focused, and ready for the opportunity.'
Sean Taylor died in November 2007 at age 24 from a gunshot wound after being shot in the upper thigh by an intruder in his Miami home. Taylor was the fifth pick in the 2004 draft and played 3 1/2 NFL seasons with Washington before being killed.

Georgia Bulldogs football cornerback commit Justice Fitzpatrick announced that he will be shutting down his recruitment after recently committing to the University of Georgia. Fitzpatrick was expected to take more visits, but those appear to no longer be happening. Fitzpatrick is highly regarded and is ranked as the 47th-best player in the country. He's the third-best cornerback in the class of 2026 and the fifth-best player in Florida. He's close to being ranked as a five-star recruit. Fitzpatrick had a scheduled official visit to Ohio State this weekend but Georgia quickly moved to make sure that Fitzpatrick is going to solidified in this recruiting class. Marshon Lattimore wants to prove himself to Commanders
The Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season, but it wasn't because their midseason trade for cornerback Marshon Lattimore was a home run. Lattimore was dealing with a hamstring injury when he was acquired from the Saints and was inactive for four games before making his Washington debut. He was back on the injured list after two games and missed the final two weeks of the regular season before returning for the playoffs. When Lattimore was in the lineup, he didn't play as well as he has in the past and that's left him with a clear goal for the 2025 season. Lattimore is healthy after the extended break and said on Wednesday that he wants to 'prove that they made the right decision' by trading for him. 'Just the burst,' Lattimore said, via the team's website. 'Just getting all my breaks. I was dealing with a hamstring, and that takes a lot out of you. It takes a long time to heal. I was just trying to battle through that, but now, since I got a full offseason, I feel explosive.' Getting the Lattimore of old in the secondary this season would be a case of better late than never for the Commanders and it would make them a tougher team to throw against this time around.
