Yahoo5 days ago
The Cleveland Browns are celebrating their history and taking their case regarding the proposed Brook Park dome with two video projects.
First up: 'Dawg Pound XL' airs tonight [July 22] on WEWS (Channel 5) at 8 p.m, hosted by sports director Jon Doss along with legendary Browns cornerback Hanford Dixon.

The documentary looks at the creation of the fan favorite spot from the barking during practices of the team's lock-down cornerbacks of the time: Dixon ('Top Dawg') and Frank Minnifield ('Mighty Minni') during some of the team's best days during the '80s when they appeared in three AFC Championship Games in four years, courtesy of a stingy defense led by the defensive backfield and the offensive stewardship of quarterback Bernie Kosar.
Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Dawand Jones, left, and Hanford Dixon, right, present St. Ignatius basketball player Quinn Woidke with the male athlete of the year award during the 25th Greater Cleveland Sports Awards at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio.
What started as a practice ritual bled onto the field and became ingrained in local sports culture ever since.
The special will stream simultaneously on YouTube.
The other effort from the team: 'Building Brownstown,' a 10-part video podcast hosted by Nathan Zegura that takes the case for the Browns domed stadium project to the fans. It will feature interviews with team leaders, the architects behind the designs, along with NFL insiders.

George M. Thomas covers a myriad of things including sports and pop culture, but mostly sports, he thinks, for the Beacon Journal.

'Spartacus: House of Ashur' to premiere on Starz this winter

July 27 (UPI) -- Starz has narrowed the premiere window for Spartacus: House of Ashur to "this winter" and released a new teaser for the eagerly awaited period drama. Nick E. Tarabay will reprise his role of Ashur from 2010's Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Spartacus franchise creator Steven S. DeKnight is the showrunner for the latest chapter. "What if he lived, and the Romans rewarded his treachery with the gladiator school where he once bled? Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him," a synopsis for the show said. "But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child's play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics -- a cutthroat game in which betrayal isn't a sin, it's currency." The cast will also include Tenika Davis, Graham McTavish, Jamaica Vaughan, Jordi Webber and Jaime Slater.

Tennessee Titans' Cam Ward, 'We gotta be ready to play from day 1'

Throughout the offseason and now continuing into training camp, it has become clear that Cam Ward is the future of the Tennessee Titans. Known for his leadership qualities and work ethic on top of his athletic prowess, Ward has been everything and more than what the Tennessee Titans expected when they selected him with the first overall pick in April. Ward has come into Nashville and won over both the locker room and the organization with his infectious attitude. This isn't just coming from the local media or those that cover the Titans on a daily basis; it has become clear to national NFL insiders as well, with the latest being Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network. As Jeremiah points out, Ward gets into the facility early, before the coaching staff. While this isn't anything new, as it was reported back in June during minicamp, some new details on how this film will work did come out during an interview with Ward for the network. Ward is not alone in his extra work at 5:30. He is usually joined by a group of receivers led by Calvin Ridley, which includes Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Xavier Restrepo, in an attempt to play his best football and have the offense on track early in the season. With Ward and his group of young receivers putting in the extra work, it is easy to see why they have been one of the more exciting units to watch early in training camp. The interview also highlights the increased leadership role Ridley is assuming this offseason, a trend that has been emerging more frequently during player interviews. That dedication bodes well for the Titans' offense, which is looking to surprise teams in 2025.
