Indigenously built 5th fast patrol vessel Atal launched for Coast Guard
In his address, Rozy Agarwal highlighted that the vessel is a product of indigenous design and construction by GSL, tailored to meet the operational needs of the Coast Guard.The 52-metre-long vessel, with a beam of 8 metres and a displacement of 320 tonnes, is equipped to perform coastal patrol, surveillance, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and search and rescue operations. It will play a crucial role in safeguarding fishermen, island territories, and India's Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ).The project significantly contributes to the national goal of self-reliance in defence manufacturing. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) INDIAN COAST GUARD AND INDIAN RUBBER MATERIALS RESEARCH INSTITUTE
New Delhi, 05 Aug 25: Indian Coast Guard and Indian Rubber Materials Research Institute, an autonomous institute, under DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 05 Aug 2025 at Coast Guard HQs, New Delhi, for collaboration with an aim to promote indigenisation of specialised marine rubber & composite products. The MoU was signed by IG Sudhir Sahni, TM, DDG (Materiel & Maintenance), Indian Coast Guard and Dr. K Rajkumar, Director, IRMRI in the august presence of Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Shri Sanjiv. Indigenous prototype development, material analysis and testing of specialised rubber products for marine equipment/systems used onboard Coast Guard platforms are the major objectives of MoU. IRMRI will work closely with ICG for exploring feasibility to develop rubber material spares that are presently imported. Moreover, the existing IRMRI facilities will be utilised for material analysis/ testing of rubber components/ products that are manufactured by Indian Industries for ICG as a certifying agency. ICG shall provide IRMRI with problem statements for indigenisation of rubber products and IRMRI will develop Indian vendors, including start-up/MSMEs, incubated by ARISE, an incubation centre promoted by IRMRI. The MoU between the Indian Coast Guard and IRMRI is a significant step which symbolises shared commitment for Nation building while developing indigenous solutions in specialised domain areas i.e Rubber Material.

Indigenous hovercraft construction for ICG begins at Goa's Chowgule Shipyard
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has begun construction of its first indigenously built Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV), marking a major step towards boosting India's maritime response capabilities. The Girder Laying and Commencement of Erection ceremony took place on Wednesday (30 July) at Chowgule and Company Pvt. Ltd. in Goa. The ACVs, based on proven Griffon Hoverwork designs, are being developed using Indian expertise to support a range of coastal security operations. Once inducted, these hovercrafts will enhance speed, tactical flexibility, and shallow-water operability—allowing quick response for patrolling, interdiction, and search and rescue missions along India's vast coastline. The ceremony was attended by Inspector General Sudhir Sahni, Deputy Director General (Materiel & Maintenance) of the ICG. The project follows a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence on 24 October 2024 for six ACVs, underlining ICG's commitment to operational self-reliance as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
