Inside the arty and cool property that's won Scotland's Home of the Year
There were so many beautiful properties in the running, it was a tricky one to call, but Scotland's Home of the Year 2025 has been unveiled.
The winner of the BBC Scotland seven-part series is Hilltop House - an airy and contemporary converted farm steading that combines a unique blend of arty mid-century style and insouciant Californian cool.
This property, near the Aberdeenshire village of Pitmedden, is home to Jessica Zanoni and husband Chris Labrooy, who own an art business, as well as their teenage son, Chase, and dogs Enzo and Dino. The couple's interior design look is a joint effort that was inspired by nature and their sustainable ethics.
They have taken home their SHOTY trophy to display in their very stylish open-plan living room and kitchen, which features artfully mis-matched light fittings and chairs.
Hilltop House's other winning features included a slouchy mustard yellow sofa, a collection of graphic prints, and a peachy pink bathroom with a line drawing of a sausage dog on the wall.
SHOTY judge and interior designer Anna Campbell-Jones said: 'This home managed to feel perfect in every way whilst still feeling like a place where real people live. I particularly loved the way their art was reflected in their choices of colour and furniture managing to create the perfect balance between playfulness and sophistication'.
Interior Designer Banjo Beale added: 'It's an artful sanctuary - every corner tells a story, and it's quiet and charismatic all at once'.
While the third judge, architect Danny Campbell said: 'This was a home that manages to be both deeply personal and architecturally ambitious. There's a clarity of vision that's rare: every corner feels considered, every material honest, every space deliberate and thought through. It felt like the building was completely in tune with the people who lived there, which is especially impressive for a conversion'.
The property qualified as a finalist when it won episode two, North East and Northern Isles, which was screened in April.
For the grand final at Glasgow's House For an Art Lover, it competed against five other shortlisted homes - Sandstone Bungalow in Giffnock; Wee City Nook in Edinburgh; The Tree House in Broughty Ferry; An Cala Cottage on the Isle of Skye, and Craigmount, near Dalbeattie.
Ms Zanoni said: 'It has been such a lovely experience all around, and to win it has been fantastic. After watching the shows and getting to see our competition in detail, it really must have been a hard decision to make.'
Mr Labrooy added: 'It's great to win. The house is a reflection of our tastes and personalities and we are proud of what we have created.'
A new eighth series of the popular property show, which is made by IWC Media, will begin filming in locations around Scotland from later this month and applications on the BBC website are currently open to those who want to enter their home in the competition.

Brian explained: "And then, one of them leaned in further, and said, 'Are you voting for Trump?' And I said, 'I am. I swear!'" As part of the series, the producer, known for working on films such as A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13, confessed the reaction he received made him feel like he was "getting cancelled." The New York Times reported that Brian explained his Trump vote by saying: "As a centrist, it was because I could feel and see Biden's deterioration and the lack of direction in the Democratic Party at that time." The second season of Art of the Surge, produced by former Tucker Carlson Tonight executive producer Justin Wells, is currently streaming on Fox Nation. Before voting for Trump, Brian reportedly donated to Kamala Harris in the past, and also raised money for other Democrats. After his confession emerged, fans took to Reddit to share their reactions - and while some agreed with his thought process, others said the fact that he no longer agreed with the direction of Democrats doesn't justify voting for Republicans, as there are "other choices" too. A person wrote: "Does he understand that if he doesn't like the Democrats he doesn't have to vote for Republicans? There are other choices." Another said: "He knew that as a rich person he'd be safe whichever party won. Not everyone has that privilege." A third expressed: "Every centrist is just a republican that is ashamed to admit it." One asked: "Does centrist mean something totally different in the US? In the UK it's synonymous with liberal (rather than left) and generally describes people who would never vote conservative. But in the US it seems to mean people who could happily vote far right?" Brian isn't the only Hollywood celebrity who voiced support for Trump. Other supporters of the president also include actor Mel Gibson, TV host Dr Phil, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe and actress Victoria Jackson.

The unnamed woman, claimed that she had been handed a glass of something that made her feel 'woozy' and recall lying down in a bedroom, in which she got raped. However, in February this year, the case was dismissed, according to a legal filing submitted in New York. At the time Jay Z denied the accusations via a post on social media, in which he wrote: 'My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a 'lawyer' named Tony Buzbee. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims Jay Z statement What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. 'I was a Disney child star - but blew my fortune in extravagant ways'
Joey Bragg, who rose to fame on the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie, has spoken out about his financial struggles and admitted to splurging his savings with a VIP lifestyle Disney Channel has long been the launchpad for numerous A-listers, including pop sensations Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. The network's series and movies have consistently kept them in the limelight, allowing emerging young talents to garner enormous followings. Yet, former Disney Channel luminary Joey Bragg has openly admitted that he frittered away his youthful earnings from acting on an extravagant way of life. Now aged 28, Joey rose to prominence through his role as Joey Rooney on the hit series Liv and Maddie. The show, which delighted audiences from 2013 to 2017, also starred Dove Cameron, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Kali Rocha, Benjamin King, and Lauren Lindsey Donzis. Joey, who was pursuing comedy before his breakthrough, revealed that he initially declined the chance to star in Liv and Maddie. He eventually accepted after a more lucrative deal was proposed, leading him to uproot to Los Angeles at 17 to film the successful TV comedy. In accordance with Californian legislation, 15% of Joey's income from the series was secured in a trust due to his minor status at the time. Setting themselves apart from some other child stars' guardians, Joey's folks "didn't pay themselves anything." Upon reaching adulthood, Joey gained access to his reserved earnings, receiving a hefty sum of $70,000 (£52k) which he obtained whole on his 18th birthday. One of his most extravagant outlays was at Disney World, where he shelled out $5,000 (£3.7k) for a private guide for the day. He also confessed to where a substantial amount of his fortune had gone, admitting: "Also mostly weed, I spent most of it on weed." However, the early windfall came with a downside, as Joey acknowledges it distorted his view of finances. He noted: "It definitely f***ed me up in regards to what I'm used to and what I enjoy out of life, I get got a lot easily because I'm so used to having the extra money." Despite this financial rollercoaster, Joey's career has continued to thrive, with roles in several TV series, including a lead role in the American sitcom Call Your Mother, and a recent appearance in the comedy-drama film Sid Is Dead, alongside stars like Mary Stuart Masterson and Carla Gallo.
