Broc Feeney punches ticket to Supercars finals as inaugural Sprint Cup champion
Championship leader Feeney blitzed his rivals from pole position to take the chequered flag under a safety car in Saturday's opening 120km sprint at Queensland Raceway.
Aside from a brief exchange of the top spot with Triple Eight teammate Will Brown in the opening laps, Feeney went largely unchallenged on the way to his 11th win of the season.
Grove Racing rookie Kai Allen was second, while sophomore driver Ryan Wood followed in third for the youngest-ever Supercars podium.
Defending champion Brown crossed the finish line in fourth.
The safety car had been brought out with three laps remaining when David Reynolds, in a bid to overtake James Golding, veered off track after locking up.
Triple Eight ace Feeney now boasts a 243-point lead - a gulf that second-placed Brown will be unable to cross given there are only 230 points up for grabs with two races left in Ipswich.
By winning the Sprint Cup, Feeney automatically qualifies for this year's inaugural finals and nets 25 bonus points to take into the elimination series.
The 22-year-old's race haul so far consists of 13 podium finishes and 11 race wins from 11 poles.
He is poised to add to his remarkable record after snaring pole for the second 120km lap on Saturday.
Wood's experienced teammate Chaz Mostert finished second-last in 25th after a braking issue threatened to end his race early.
Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Mostert qualified in fourth but was forced to start from pit lane after reporting he had no brakes while on the warm-up lap.
Brad Jones Racing driver Macauley Jones was 26th after suffering a gearbox issue.
In his 600th race since his 2005 debut, James Courtney could only finish 14th.
Fellow milestone man Cam Waters, in his 300th race, finished 19th.

Three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen and former Triple Eight team co-owner Jess Dane have had a low-key wedding in the US. The motorsport power couple moved to America in 2023 when van Gisbergen signed with Trackhouse Racing to race full-time in NASCAR. Dane also took a leap in her own career, joining General Motors as its motorsports integration manager before later becoming Corvette Racing's program manager. The notoriously private couple live in North Carolina, where cohabitation — unmarried couples living together — is actually illegal. Dane said if it weren't for that, and some other complications with not being married, they wouldn't have tied the knot. 'If we were still in Australia, we wouldn't have got married,' she told V8 Sleuth. 'It wasn't something either of us ever really wanted to do, but as foreigners in the US, it adds a layers of security in terms of immigration law and owning property.' Getting married was little more than a means to an end for the laid-back couple. So, they rallied two friends as witnesses to wed last month at Iredell County Detention Centre. 'It was a pretty funny situation, to be honest,' Dane said. 'We did everything very low-key. It was a case of finding a day that we were both in the same place at the same time, that we were able to have a day that we weren't both in meetings or at racetracks and where we also had two witnesses available. 'It just happened to be a Thursday, and also it had to fit in with the time that the magistrate was available. The magistrate only does wedding between 11.30am and 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. 'So fitting all of that together, it took a long time to find a day where we could actually do it. We found a random Thursday in July. 'It was hilarious. Because first you have to go to the deeds register and get your marriage licence, then we had to walk across the carpark to the court and pay for a marriage certificate at the court, and then from there you walk back through the metal detectors and walk over to the prison. She admitted it was a bit disconcerting doing it with prison paraphernalia surrounding them. 'We stood there in the Iredell County Detention Center in Statesville, and we had a two-minute ceremony by a magistrate sitting behind bulletproof glass while there were inmates there to have their jumpsuits and handcuffs put on and be taken into jail,' Dane said. 'The magistrate told us that we looked like each other, which was quite disturbing; it's not what you want to hear when you get married. 'But standing there in front of the magistrate and our two friends who were serving as witnesses, it was a very, very funny occasion.' The couple started dating in 2022 while van Gisbergen raced for Triple Eight, where Dane was a shareholder and manager.

The veteran has now signed a two-year deal with Team 18, the outfit that General Motors selected to replace Triple Eight as its Supercars homologation team. The 51-year-old will spearhead the Chevrolet Camaro wildcard entry at Supercars endurance races from 2026, mentoring a young rookie driver. Lowndes has competed in a staggering 31 editions of the Bathurst 1000, having won the famed race on seven occasions. "Joining Team 18 was the right move for me, being the new homologation team and my strong relationship with GM," Lowndes said in a statement. "It's going to be a big change - joining a new team after so many years. "But there are a lot of familiar faces in there. "It's an exciting time ahead ... the Supercheap Auto Wildcard program has grown from strength to strength during my time at Triple Eight.
