Jon Gruden Gushes Over New York Giants' Rookie Class

Over the last few years, the New York Giants have been hard at work adding as much promising young talent to the roster as possible. Ahead of the 2025 campaign, one former coach raved about the team's latest influx of youth.
It's been a busy offseason for the Giants on various fronts. While they did secure reliable veteran talent in the form of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the front office remained focused on rebuilding for the future. They potentially nabbed a pair of long-term cornerstone pieces in the draft, selecting Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart in the first round.
This duo, along with multiple other rookies, joins a young Giants roster that is headlined by promising talents such as wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Tyrone Tracy.

Jon Gruden gives his thoughts on Giants' incoming rookie class
Over the past few days, longtime NFL coach Jon Gruden has posted a series of unboxing videos from football programs across the country. Among the pro teams to send him a care package was the Giants.
While unpacking his latest collection of gear, Gruden had nothing but good things to say about New York's incoming talent.
"Did they have a great draft or what," Gruden said. "How about getting Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart in the same draft. And they got my guy Cam Skattebo coming out of the backfield. They got some players man."
Few boxes come with more history than this one here... it's the NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS
100 years of history can be found in these red, white and blue colors and it's an honor to wear them!
Thank you Coach Daboll and the @Giants for this awesome box, good luck this year!! pic.twitter.com/oGtS5HSaOx — Jon Gruden (@BarstoolGruden) August 4, 2025

After being drafted third overall earlier this year, Carter will be thrown right in the mix as a rookie. Coming off a dominant college career at Penn State, the Giants are hopeful he can be a pillar of their defense for years to come.
As for Dart, New York is taking a slow approach with its newest QB prospect. He will begin the 2025 season as a backup to Wilson, who signed a one-year deal in free agency. Upon learning the game and developing behind the scenes in year one, Dart will eventually be handed the reins as the long-term option under center.
Skattebo was turning heads early on in training camp for the Giants, but things have gone off the rails a bit for him. The former fourth-round pick remains absent from practice as he tends to a hamstring injury.
Armed with exciting young talent on both sides of the field, New York will attempt to stay afloat in what could be a highly competitive NFC East this season.

'Overrated' - Fans Didn't Like Travis Hunter's NFL Debut
'Overrated' - Fans Didn't Like Travis Hunter's NFL Debut originally appeared on The Spun. They weren't impressed. For all of the hype surrounding Travis Hunter's NFL preseason debut, some fans were left feeling underwhelmed with the Heisman Trophy winner's performance in Saturday's matchup vs. the Steelers. While other rookies like Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart showed out in their first taste of pro football action (not to mention the special teams splashes from former Buffs receiver LaJohntay Wester and Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson), Travis finished with just two catches for nine yards in this weekend's game with no stats on defense outside of a missed tackle. Hunter made his first catch on the third play from scrimmage for the Jags for a three-yard gain from a Trevor Lawrence pass, and his next catch (that counted) helped set up a Jacksonville field goal attempt. That didn't seem to be good enough for those on the internet though who voiced their concerns on X. "I'm at the game," a user shared. "Travis Hunter created no separation at WR. Steeler backups all over him." "Hopefully wrong cause I like the guy but Travis Hunter feels like a bust waiting to happen," another said. "Travis Hunter ain't s—t btw 😂😵💫" a fan commented. "Travis hunter just got his head dribbled on the in his floor first drive of defense 😭😭😭😭😭☠️☠️☠️☠️" another person laughed. "Travis Hunter is getting absolutely WORKED 😂 he not ready," another user claimed. "Dont ask me why but ion see travis hunter being as good as he was projected to be." "Travis Hunter only played 2 drives ? How is he supposed to get conditioned and ready to play full games during the season," another fan asked. "Travis Hunter and Cam Ward are the easiest 1-2 bust picks in NFL history." All in all it seemed to be a fairly solid debut for Travis whose career won't be made or broken off the back of one preseason game. There's still plenty to be excited about up in northern Florida and hopefully this is just the beginning of what could be a legendary NFL career.
