Has Deepika Padukone exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Prabhas-starrer, Spirit? The alleged reason may shock you
Arjun Reddy (2017) , Kabir Singh (2019) and Animal (2023) may have sparked nationwide debates with their respective releases, on the divide of responsible filmmaking — but Sandeep Reddy Vanga has sworn by the rugged, and pretty questionable trajectories of each of his three on-screen prodigies.
The controversial director is currently in the process of mounting two passion projects — Animal Park, the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Animal, with Ranbir Kapoor set to reprise his role as the lead; and the Prabhas-led Spirit. Now between the two, Animal Park has been hogging all the limelight owing to multiple theories floating about how its plot may or may not progress from the first. Spirit on the other hand, for better or worse, feels pretty under wraps considering all there is to go off of, is an announcement poster.
Either which way, Deepika Padukone was brought on board for the film, to star opposite Prabhas, marking a reunion of sorts after the on-screen duo's much publicised Kalki 2898 AD camaraderie. Well, seems like fans of the good looking pair will have to hit pause on their dreams of seeing them together again.
If reports from Telugu portals like Gulte are to be believed, Deepika may just have pulled herself out of Spirit. The reason? Pretty complicated. A TOI report elaborates how the new mother's expectations were to work 8 hours a day, 6 of them being shoot time. Supplement this with the fact that she reportedly asked for a fee of ₹20 crores, in addition to profit-sharing in the film and an alleged refusal to deliver her lines in Telugu, things were appearing tough in terms of moving forward. The same report also asserts that Sandeep is now on the look out for a new female lead for the film.
It is worth mentioning here, that neither Deepika nor Sandeep have confirmed the news yet.

TNPL 2025 kicks off tomorrow, Shahrukh's Kings to take on Ashwin's Dragons in opener
Coimbatore, June 4 (UNI) IPL GT star Shahrukh Khan-led Lyca Kovai Kings will lock horns with R Ashwin's Dindigul Dragons in a rematch of last year's final to kickstart the 9th edition of the Shriram Capital-Tamil Nadu Premier League at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Cricket Ground here on Thursday night. Dindigul denied Kovai Kings a hat-trick of crowns (joint-winners in 2022), as Ashwin turned in a splendid all-round performance in a low-scoring contest to help his side secure their maiden title. Meanwhile, Chepauk Super Gillies, the most-decorated franchise with four trophies, will begin their campaign on Friday against iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in what is India's longest-running regional T20 league. Adding excitement to Season 9 are the new-look squads following February's mega auction after the eight franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of five players each. Among the prominent movements were pacer M Mohammed to SKM Salem Spartans, left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh to Chepauk Super Gillies and toporder batters U Mukilesh and J Suresh Kumar to Trichy Grand Cholas, while all-rounder Vijay Shankar returns to Chepauk Super Gillies. With Sai Sudharsan picked for India's Test tour of England, exciting teenager Andre Siddharth will be expected to play a key role for his new franchise, Kovai Kings. At a press conference on Wednesay, Kovai Kings' head coach J Hariesh said his side will also miss the services of all-rounder RS Ambrish, away with the India U-19 team, who 'would have taken the No 6 slot.' Among other franchise news, all-rounder Washington Sundar, also picked for the England Test tour, will not be available for Trichy Grand Cholas, while former UAE wrist-spinner Karthik Meiyappan, who has now moved to his birth place Chennai, will don Siechem Madurai Panthers colours. All eight franchises appear balanced, given the reshaping of squads at the mega auction, and this promises exciting and close matches this season. 'Teams can look strong on paper, but what happens during the match decides everything,' Dindigul spinner Varun Chakravarthy said. It took Dindigul eight seasons to secure their maiden crown after runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019, and the side is looking to extend their supremacy. 'We have a trophy to defend and make a statement this year by winning it two times in a row,' India spinner Chakravarthy added. Kovai Kings' skipper Shahrukh felt a good season boils down to the 'process that we put in place and the brand of cricket that we play.' 'It's a fresh start, really, because barring the five players that were retained, most of the others are new to the side,' Shahrukh, last edition's Player of the Tournament, said at the press meet. After a week in Coimbatore (until June 11), the action will shift to the Salem Cricket Foundation ground (June 13-19), followed by CSK ground in Tirunelveli (June 21-26) before moving to the NPR College ground in Dindigul for the business end, with the final on July 6. The 32-match season will also feature six double headers, with the afternoon game commencing at 3.15 p.m. N Jagadeesan (Chepauk Super Gillies, 2260) and Sai Kishore (IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, 78 wickets) are the tournament's leading run-getter and wicket-taker respectively, while Shivam Singh (Dindigul Dragons, 364) and M Poiyamozhi (SKM Salem Spartans,16 wickets) topped the charts last year. Matches will be broadcast live on Star Sports 1 Tamil and Star Sports 2 and live- streamed on FanCode. UNI GV 2135

Thug Life advance booking: Kamal Haasan's film to open with ₹12.46 cr, 2 lakh+ tickets sold despite Karnataka blockage
Thug Life advance booking: Kamal Haasan's film Thug Life is ready to debut on Thursday despite no show across Karnataka. The actor recently found himself at the centre of a controversy, which led to the film being blocked from release in the state. However, the film is set to see a decent opening day. However, missing out on the Karnataka circuit is undoubtedly going to cost Kamal Haasan who is also jointly backing the film. According to film industry tracker Sacnilk, Thug Life has collected a gross of ₹ 5.02 crore from ticket sales in all languages. The film will be out in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. It will also be available in IMAX 2D format. Considering all formats, Kamal Haasan's film has so far sold 2,95,456 tickets for 10,678 shows across India, excluding Karnataka. Considering blocked seats, Thug Life is set to see a massive opening with ₹ 12.46 crore gross earnings. The film is set to clash with Sajid Nadiawala's Housefull 5 which has now generated way less money from advance booking. The movie is likely to premiere with ₹ 5.67 crore gross earnings. While Karnataka is out of the picture for Thug Life, states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat, top the list with maximum revenue from the advance booking for the first day in all versions. Thug Life is a gangster action drama film, directed by Mani Ratnam. It is co-written by Kamal Haasan, who is also jointly producing the film under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. Madras Talkies and Red Giant Movies are also backing the film. Besides Kamal Haasan, it also features Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf and Baburaj. The film marks the reunion of Haasan and Ratnam after they collaborated on their 1987 film, Nayakan. The film landed in controversy after Haasan said, "Kannada was born out of Tamil' during the film event. Predicting the fate of the film amid the row, film trade insider Ramesh Bala posted on X, formerly Twitter, 'The anticipation is huge for the biggest film of the year #ThugLife. The promotional material impressed everyone. We can expect, solid action and Phenomenal performances from leads #KamalHaasan, #SilambarasanTR, #Trisha, #JojuGeorge & others. With themes rumored to explore action, identity, and rebellion, #ThugLife is expected to be more than just a commercial entertainer. Excited for tomorrow.'
