EastEnders legend set to make shock return to Walford after 11 years - weeks after two other iconic characters confirm their return to screens
The character – son of Patrick Trueman (played by Rudolph Walker) – will be back on screens in scenes to air in the summer.
Anthony first arrived on the Square in 2000 and quickly made waves, thanks in part to a steamy romance with Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace).
Now, 11 years on from his last stint, the GP is set for a dramatic reunion with his dad this summer as Patrick and Yolande prepare to tie the knot.
Anthony last appeared in Eastenders in 2014 when he rushed to his father's side when Patrick suffered a stroke.
Since then, he has led a life away from Walford but in upcoming scenes viewers will see he is invited to his father's impending nuptials and decides to return for the occasion.
In a post on the official Eastenders Instagram account, the long running soap teased the visit to Walford comes at a significant moment for Patrick, which means Anthony stays longer than he originally intended.
In a statement, executive producer Ben Wadey said: 'It's great to welcome Nicholas back to the EastEnders family to reunite Patrick with his son.
'But Anthony's plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.'
Nicholas who will reprise the iconic role added: 'It is an unexpected treat to return to EastEnders and I'm full of gratitude to get the opportunity to revisit the character of Anthony.
'It's wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again - he's such a big part of my journey as an actor and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long.
'I'm excited to see what the passage of time has done to Anthony and explore his relationship with Patrick at this stage in their lives.'
Fans took to the comment section to share their excitement for the new return and penned: 'Bring him back for longer. He was a good actor and good for the show.'
'Fantastic news. I'm loving this new era'
'OMG!!!!!! I can't wait for this he's aged like fine wine'; 'Wow, this is now getting so good'.
MailOnline has contacted Eastenders representatives for comment
The return of Dr. Trueman comes hot on the heels of other major soap comebacks.
Michelle Ryan recently reprised her role as Zoe Slater after two decades away, and Jake Wood is set to return as Max Branning in explosive future scenes.
The British actor, 52, who last appeared on screen in February 2021, said he is 'over the moon to be coming home to Walford'.
He said: 'I'm over the moon to be coming home to Walford. Max has got lots of unresolved drama with many characters, so I'm sure he'll be busy.
'I'm excited to see what he's been up to, and what is next for the character, but if his last 15 years in the Square are anything to go by, I'm sure there will be plenty of chaos.'
Max is reportedly set to return to the BBC soap in autumn, before making a permanent return later in the year.
During his first stint on the soap, Jake became a fan favourite amongst viewers, with his character Max being at the heart of several huge storylines.
The 2007 Christmas Day episode where it was revealed that Max had an affair with his daughter-in-law Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) has become known as one of the most chaotic festive specials ever.
Michelle, 40, best known for her iconic 'You ain't my mother!' moment, made her first appearance in June, after her return was kept under wraps.
On the return the episode hadn't been released on BBC iPlayer at 6am that morning, meaning all viewers had to tune into the evening broadcast, where Zoe's return was unveiled.

BBCNOW/Otaka/Kholodenko review – Rachmaninov fills seats but magic is missing
Sometimes the simple tactics work best. It turns out that if you name a Prom after one of the best-loved works in the classical canon, you don't just get a full house for that piece, but also a near-capacity Royal Albert Hall after the interval for Witold Lutosławski's Concerto for Orchestra. Vivid, gritty, bracing: what the programme hails as the 20th-century Polish composer's 'most successful large-scale work' is many things, but it certainly isn't classical easy listening. And perhaps some of those drawn by the ultra-familiar will now have been set on a voyage of discovery. Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2 needn't be easy listening either, of course, even if its association with Brief Encounter sealed its status as the last word in impassioned pianism. It's a strange work, full of delicately balanced orchestral textures and vital dialogues between orchestra and soloist. But not in this performance, which was largely driven by Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko, making his Proms debut. After a thrilling crescendo in his opening chords, there was rubato galore (dragging the BBC National Orchestra of Wales forward or holding them back) but minimal subtlety of expression or dynamics. All the notes were there – and many in the hall were clearly delighted to hear them – but with little magic from either Kholodenko or BBCNOW, whose playing lacked the finesse demanded by Rachmaninov's score beyond the biggest of the big tunes. The orchestra fared better in Lutosławski's colourful shifts of timbre and mood. In his final appearance as BBCNOW's conductor laureate after a nearly 40-year association with the orchestra, Tadaaki Otaka commanded both massive, muscular interjections and passages of hushed, finicky counterpoint that stilled the audience, inviting attention. The orchestra continued to sound most comfortable in the loudest tutti passages, where brass was served in lurid splashes. The closest this concert got to genuine subtlety was in its opening piece, the Concerto for String Orchestra by Lutosławski's Polish contemporary Grażyna Bacewicz. There BBCNOW's XL string section produced a rich, generous sound (carefully blended, bowing as one), folk idioms occasionally breaking playfully through Bacewicz's mid-century musical nattiness – all led with energetic precision by Otaka. Listen again on BBC Sounds until 12 October. The Proms continue until 13 September.

Suki and Eve's marriage implodes in early EastEnders BBC iPlayer release
Eve and Suki's marriage is on the line (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) This article contains spoilers for tonight's episode of EastEnders, which airs at 7.30pm on BBC One or can be streamed now on iPlayer. Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) and wife Eve (Heather Peace) have come to blows over a plan to take custody of Avani Nandra-Hart's (Aaliyah James) unborn child. As viewers know, Avani confided in best mate Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) that she thought she could be pregnant with twisted Joel Marshall's (Max Murray) baby. Her worst fears were realised when a test gave a positive result. Adamant that she wanted an abortion, Suki dropped a huge bombshell and proposed raise the child as her own. This was without addressing the situation with Eve first. When the idea was raised, Eve remained insistent that she never wanted children of her own, partly down to her mother's homophobic comments in her youth that made her believe that she wouldn't be a good mother. Suki urged her to put those concerns to one side, and just as she warmed to the idea, Avani burst in and assumed she'd agreed. Avani discovered she was pregnant (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) Suki overstepped, telling Eve she reminded her of wicked ex-husband Nish (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) In today's instalment, Eve was under the belief that Avani had purposely got pregnant in order to provide a child for Suki. She was furious at the thought of being deceived, and struggled to find a way to explain it. As tensions began to rise, she branded the behaviour as abuse. Suki was incredulous to see her wife escalating the row, comparing her attitude to wicked ex-husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry). With no resolution being found, Suki boldly announced that she would raise the baby on her own. After all, Avani was her family, not Eve's. A devastated Eve then headed to the pub to drown her sorrows, and a heart to heart with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). At one point, she considered telling Avani's parents Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) and Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) about the unfolding situation, but decided instead to go home and face Suki. Avani staged an intervention, with Suki offering a heartfelt apology. But what will Eve do next? You'll have to tune in tonight to find out, or stream now on iPlayer!
