Telangana Dy CM emphasizes boosting non-tax revenue

Hyderabad, June 22 (UN) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who chairs the Infrastructure and Capital Sub-Committee, directed officials to give focused attention to increasing the state's non-tax revenue and optimising budgetary allocations.
He made these remarks during a high-level review meeting held at the Dr B R Ambedkar Secretariat, attended by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, and senior officials.
During the meeting, the Deputy CM emphasised that new welfare schemes worth Rs 33,600 crore are being implemented without halting existing schemes of the previous government.
However, he pointed out that no revenue was received from Outer Ring Road or Excise during the 2023–24 financial year, highlighting the need to explore alternate revenue channels, especially non-tax sources and central funds.
He instructed officials to rationalize departmental budgets, ensuring equitable distribution of funds. "Some departments are receiving more funds than needed, while others are underfunded. This imbalance must be corrected, and allocations should reflect actual needs and priorities," he stated.
Bhatti Vikramarka also ordered the immediate completion of pending major infrastructure projects across all constituencies, stressing that rationalization and the completion of spillover works must be finalised within ten days. He underlined that revenue-generating sectors need special focus, and that all expenditures must be realistic, logical, and need-based.
Calling on all departments to work with a public welfare mindset, the Deputy CM said that only balanced departmental development will ensure comprehensive growth for the state.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Finance Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and senior officials from various departments, an official statement said on Sunday.

Social pension hike sparks political slugfest

Patna: A day after CM Nitish Kumar announced a nearly three-fold increase in social security pensions, a war of words has begun in the state with the ruling JD(U)-BJP alliance and the opposition RJD trading accusations of imitation and inaction ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. On Saturday, the govt raised the monthly pension for widows, the elderly and the differently abled from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100. While the JD(U) credited the hike to feedback received during Nitish Kumar's "Pragati Yatra" across the state, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav accused the CM of copying the opposition's promise to increase the pension to Rs 1,500. He alleged that Nitish lacked the strength or originality to initiate new welfare measures and was merely replicating ideas raised by the opposition, which he claimed had consistently focused on social justice. Reacting sharply, JD(U) spokespersons Anjum Ara and Anupriya defended the CM, questioning the RJD's contribution to women's empowerment during its previous tenure. They argued that the hike was part of Nitish's long-standing commitment to social welfare and not a reaction to the RJD's agenda. "If RJD was so serious about pensions, why didn't they act during the 37-month-long Grand Alliance govt?" they asked. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary also countered Tejashwi's allegations, saying that the state has witnessed consistent development over the last two decades under Nitish Kumar's leadership. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scam Exposed: What They Won't Tell You about zero trust! Meet India's richest IAS officer, took only Re 1 as salary, cracked UPSC exam with AIR..., his name is.., he is married to...

The dream to become an IAS officer has been the ambition of millions of individuals across India in recent years. The IAS, which is considered one of the most coveted and influential jobs in the country, allows an officer to serve at the ground level in India. The growing enthusiasm for civil services represents a change in aspirations for young, educated minds that are looking for purpose-driven roles that include aspects of leadership, responsibility, and authority to create real change in the lives of people. Amit Kataria, an IAS officer and resident of Gurugram in Haryana, is currently in the news for more than just his work as a civil servant. Often, Amit Kataria is one of the richest IAS officers in India. IAS officer Amit Kataria hails from a well-known business family with a huge amount of land, especially in Delhi and its neighboring areas, with their businesses reportedly earning major money. Because he is from an affluent background, Kataria gained national recognition for his commitment to public service early in his career by opting to take a salary of just Rs 1 upon joining the civil services. He did so to show he was dedicated to serving the public good rather than to pursue personal economic gain. He stated he was motivated to join the civil services to serve the nation; therefore, forgoing a salary was a meaningful expression of that purpose. Amit Kataria, who has a phenomenal financial status, chose at one point to accept a symbolic salary of just Rs 1 to exemplify how doing one's duty is more important than profiting from that duty. While serving as the Collector of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, in 2015, IAS officer Amit Kataria began to gain some notoriety when he made headlines for wearing sunglasses while meeting Prime Minister Modi when he came to Chhattisgarh. The incident was another violation of government protocol and led Kataria to receive a show-cause notice from the state government. During that time, Raman Singh was the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. IAS officer Amit Kataria is said to be one of the richest IAS officers in India. As per the News18 Hindi reports, Amit is currently posted in Chhattisgarh. He has a remarkable academic history. If media reports are to be believed, Amit completed his schooling in Delhi Public School, RK Puram, where he was known for his intellectual acumen. He later went on to obtain a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Amit Kataria entered the Indian Administrative Service after securing a remarkable 18th rank in the UPSC exam in 2003. Although he is listed as one of the most financially prosperous IAS officers in the country, Kataria has consistently placed service to the public above self-oriented motives. For a time in his career, he was in the news for taking Rs 1 as his salary, in a remarkable act to focus more on serving the nation rather than personal financial gain. In 2003, Amit Kataria successfully passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination, achieving an All India Rank (AIR) of 18 and was allotted to the Chhattisgarh cadre. Amit is married to Asmita Handa, who is a commercial pilot and is earning well. The couple is quite active on social media, sharing posts of their travels and life updates. Amit Kataria's net worth is estimated at ₹8.90 crore and this not only includes his success in the civil services, but his family's prominent business background and financial wealth.

Himachal's sex ratio records improvement, touches 964 in 2024

The Himachal Pradesh government said on Sunday that the state saw a significant improvement in the sex ratio -- a rise from 947 in 2023 to 964 in 2024. It attributed the improvement in gender equality to a growing societal shift towards valuing the girl child, reinforced by various schemes launched to support their well-being. The sex ratio is the measure of the number of females per 1,000 males in a given population. It serves as a crucial yardstick to measure gender equality. The state government said that the financial support for the marriage of girls from economically weaker sections continues to be a key focus area. Under the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, Rs 1,989.31 lakh has been provided as to help 3,956 girls at the time of their marriage. Likewise, the Mukhyamantri Shagun Yojana has extended support to 12,192 girls, with financial assistance of Rs 3,779.52 lakh as 'shagun'. These initiatives reflect the state's commitment to ensuring dignity and support for young women as they enter a new phase of life, an official statement said. Recognising the right of widows to remarry and lead a respectful life, the government has also extended financial assistance through the Widow Remarriage Scheme. Under this scheme, 239 women have been supported with an assistance of Rs 291.15 lakh, encouraging their reintegration into society with dignity and support. The welfare of orphan children has been given special attention under the Mukhyamantri Sukh Aashray Yojana, through which Rs 25.98 crore has been provided to support their overall well-being. For educational support, 9,859 children have received Rs 302.18 lakh under the scheme, helping them to grow and learn in a secure and nurturing environment. Besides, the state government took a historic step by passing the Himachal Pradesh Ceiling Land Holdings (Amendment) Bill of 1972. This step is helping promoting gender equality and empowering women. It addresses long-standing inequalities in property rights and shows the commitment towards social justice for women, the state government said. The initiative reflects the vision of the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and is a bold step towards giving women greater financial independence and social empowerment across the state. Apart from this, the state government has also started the Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojana, under which it will deposit Rs 25,000 with an insurance company for each of the first two daughters born in a below poverty line (BPL) family. The parents of the girl will receive a life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh each. The deposited amount will be handed over to the girl when she turns 18 or any time before she reaches the age of 27. To support working women, the state government plans to build 13 working women hostels across key locations like Solan, Baddi, Palampur and Gagret, and the Medical Device Park in Solan. These hostels, to be constructed in this fiscal at a cost of Rs 132 crore, will provide safe, affordable and convenient accommodation for employed women, enabling their economic independence.
