'Not Received Any Notice From EC': Tejashwi Yadav Amid Bihar Voter Id Row
ERO on Sunday asked Tejashwi to submit the details of his EPIC card after he claimed in a press conference that his EPIC number had been changed.
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Bihar deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said on Thursday said that he had not received any notice from the Election Commission. His remark came two days after the Patna Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) on Wednesday requested that the RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav submit the details of the EPIC card he mentioned in the press conference on August 2.
'I have not received any notice from the Election Commission, but from the Patna Registration Department, and I will give a good answer to it. If two EPIC numbers were issued, who is at fault? And they ask for an explanation from me," said Yadav.
Earlier, in a letter, the Patna Electoral Registration Officer stated that the required documents and a copy of the EPIC card had still not been provided for verification, despite previous requests.
'The details of the EPIC card mentioned by you in the press conference on 02.08.2025 were requested for thorough investigation, but till now, the desired documents and a copy of the EPIC card have not been provided from your level. Therefore, it is requested again that details be made available to the undersigned by the afternoon of 08.08.2025 so that it can be thoroughly investigated," the letter said.
On Sunday, Tejashwi was asked by ERO to submit the details of his EPIC card after he claimed in a press conference that his EPIC number had been changed.
The poll panel dismissed his allegations, stating that a review of the records confirmed his name is listed at serial number 416 of polling station number 204, located in the Library Building of Bihar Animal Science University.
The official EPIC (voter ID) number recorded is RAB0456228. However, during his press conference, Tejashwi cited a different EPIC number.

Five dormant political parties from Gautam Budh Nagar delisted by ECI
Five political outfits from Gautam Budh Nagar have been removed from the Election Commission of India's list of registered but unrecognised political parties (RUPPs) after being found inactive for over six years and absent from their registered addresses, officials said on Tuesday. None contested any assembly or parliamentary election since 2019, and verification teams found no operational presence at their registered addresses in the district. (Sunil Ghosh/HT Archives) The delisted parties are Hindustan Krantikari Dal, Jan Kranti Samaj Party, Mother India Party, Paschim Uttar Pradesh Vikas Party, and Rashtriya Mazdoor Kisan Party. None contested any assembly or parliamentary election since 2019, and verification teams found no operational presence at their registered addresses in the district. 'Verification teams found that the five parties had neither contested any election in the past six years nor maintained their presence at the registered addresses in the district, and thus, the outfits have been struck off the Election Commission of India's list of registered but unrecognised political parties,' said Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate and district election officer Medha Roopam. She added, 'The delisting is part of a larger clean-up of inactive political outfits across Uttar Pradesh and the country by the Election Commission to ensure only active and compliant political outfits remain on record.' The action follows a state-wide review of 345 RUPPs ordered by the Election Commission in June 2025. Officials said 334 parties in Uttar Pradesh were found in violation of mandatory provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, such as failing to update office-bearers and addresses or contest elections within six years, leading to their removal. Statewide, 115 parties were delisted, including the five from Gautam Budh Nagar. No public statements surfaced from the delisted parties. Delisted parties lose benefits under the Income Tax Act, 1961, and the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968. Aggrieved parties can appeal the decision within 30 days of the order issued on August 9, 2025. Nationally, the purge has reduced the number of RUPPs from 2,854 to 2,520. India now has six recognised national parties and 67 state parties. No public statements have surfaced from the delisted parties.

Will file criminal case against breakaway faction: SAD
The Sukhbir Singh Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday warned that it will file a criminal complaint against leaders of the breakaway faction for trying to misappropriate the name of the party, saying the SAD was a registered and recognised party under the Election Commission's 1996 notification. SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema addressing the media in Chandigarh on Tuesday. (HT) The party's statement came a day after former Akal Takht jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh was unanimously elected as the president of the SAD's breakaway faction in a meeting of the Akal Takht-appointed panel in Amritsar. Terming the group's meeting on Monday illegal, unconstitutional and immoral, party spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said the SAD was consulting legal experts to file a formal criminal complaint. 'At present, all delegates of the SAD are with the party and not even one member of the separate group, which is misusing the name of the SAD, was a member of the party,' said Cheema, warning the breakaway faction against deceiving Punjabis by making false claims. Stating that all delegates of the SAD had been elected after due election following the end of the previous working committee's term, Cheema said the members of the breakaway group had not participated in the membership drive. He went on to say that all members of the SAD had taken membership of the party after submitting a membership fee of ₹10, which was applicable for five years. 'The separate group did not conduct a membership drive as per the constitution of the party, which stipulates that every member has to pay a fee of ₹10. Therefore they have no right to call their party meeting a delegate session of the SAD and can be proceeded against for indulging in cheating and forgery.' Cheema also took on Giani Harpreet Singh for violating the hukamnama of the highest temporal seat, issued on December 2, 2024, stating the separate group should close its shop and merge with the SAD in Panthic interest. He said instead of doing this, Giani Harpreet had gone ahead to open a new shop. 'It is extremely unfortunate and unbecoming that a person who has served as the jathedar of the apex Sikh institution did not follow its directives,' he said.
