Woman Says She's Conflicted Over Husband's Plans to Hire a Disabled Person to Join Them at Disneyland to Skip Waiting in Lines

Yahoo03-05-2025

A woman shared on the community forum Mumsnet.com that her husband wants to hire a disabled person to help them skip the lines at Disneyland Paris
Explaining the plan, she said it isn't uncommon for people to use their disabled parents to speed up the time it takes to get on rides and meet characters
Responses to the woman's post were divided, with many readers arguing that her plan is unfair to those with genuine disabilities
A woman is conflicted about her husband's plans for their upcoming visit to Disneyland Paris.
In a post on the community forum Mumsnet.com, the woman explained that they are taking a vacation to France in October, and her husband has been thinking about paying someone disabled to accompany them to the theme park.
She included a link to the website of a man who, for just over $100, will ensure they have a 'seamless and fun' day at Disneyland Paris by using his disabled access pass to skip the lines.
'I didn't even know these things existed,' the woman wrote. 'I've not been to DLP [Disneyland Paris] for a number of years, but apparently it's a thing that people go with their disabled parents just so they can skip queues for rides and to see characters etc.?'

The woman was curious if anyone else had tried using a disabled person to bypass the lines at a theme park. And despite being apprehensive, she also asked whether she should listen to her husband and go ahead with his plan to try it for themselves.
'Can anyone corroborate this? It seems mad to me and beyond unethical,' she wrote. 'Anyway, AIBU [am I being unreasonable] or should we really use someone like this to help us skip queues?'

The post shocked many people and quickly garnered hundreds of outraged comments from readers telling the woman not to do it.
'I would be thoroughly ashamed of my DH [dear husband] if he suggested this. I've been to DLP with my severely disabled child and even with the queue pass, it was difficult and stressful to manage his behavior while waiting," one person wrote. "To think that some people would be so deceitful and scheming is profoundly depressing!'
Another commented: 'As someone with two genuinely disabled DC [dear children] who may no longer qualify for Disability Access Pass when we go to Disney later this year because they've clamped down massively due to s--- like this, tell your DP he's being a selfish [jerk].'
"As someone with a disability who now has to jump through ridiculous hoops in Florida, people like your husband are the reason getting the pass I've legitimately used for years is now near impossible. Absolutely disgusting," a third said.

However, other commenters defended using a disabled person to line jump and argued it was no different from buying a fast track pass.
'My first reaction was that this seems a bit off, but he is not doing anything illegal,' one person said.

'A friend told me that at Disneyland Shanghai, there are disabled people who wait outside the entrance offering these very services,' another wrote. 'It's obviously very ethically questionable, but at the same time I commend the chap on his entrepreneurialism. It can't be easy being disabled and holding a job.'

People deletes Olivia Munn story after Ms. Rachel comments draw 'threats'

In a rare move, People magazine deleted a story from its website on Wednesday after it triggered 'violent' threats against its subject, the actress Olivia Munn, and her family. The story was about Munn's distaste for children's television and bore a headline specifically citing the popular YouTuber Ms. Rachel — which apparently triggered some fans. 'There is no excuse for these abhorrent attacks, and we will always prioritize safety above all else,' the publication acknowledged in a statement explaining the decision to remove a story. It's an unusual move for any news outlet to delete, rather than amend or update, a story — even People, which is generally considered a friendly go-to outlet for celebrities to share their stories. When asked for further information about removing the article, a People representative pointed back to its original statement. The post was drawn from the magazine's recent interview with Munn for a cover story, which published online June 4. The 44-year-old actress, who was promoting her new Apple TV+ series, talked about life with her husband, 42-year-old comedian John Mulaney, their children — a 3-year-old boy and 8-month-old girl — as well as her 2023 breast cancer diagnosis. People also published several separate exclusive items using material from the Munn interview, including one in which she discussed her fertility treatments, and another post headlined, 'Olivia Munn Doesn't Let Her Kids Watch Ms. Rachel. Here's Why.' In the story, according to sites that repeated quotes from it before it was deleted, Munn shared her irritation with children's TV programming. She specifically cited Ms. Rachel, a major celebrity to young children and their parents. 'I know kids love [Ms. Rachel], but the thing is, if I can't watch it, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life going crazy,' Munn said, and added she was not a fan of 'Blue's Clues' or 'Spider-Man' either. (She did admit a tolerance for 'Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood,' because it helped her son prepare for the arrival of a baby sister.) However, the framing of the People headline drew attention on social media, especially given that Ms. Rachel, whose full name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, has been in the news for speaking out about the plight of children in Gaza — though it's unclear if this topic was even addressed in the People story. All of this was surely heightened by the strong feelings many fans harbor about Mulaney and Munn's relationship, and its timing relative to his divorce from an artist, Anna Marie Tendler, with her own significant social media following. Various publications and social media accounts started regurgitating Munn's comments, and Accurso herself expressed disappointment when she left a comment on People's Instagram post, now disappeared as well: 'WHO CARES?! I'd rather you cover me advocating for kids in Gaza who are literally starving, largest cohort of child amputees in modern history, thousands & thousands killed — no medical care, no education, no homes… do better!!!' Accurso wrote, according to multiple reports. 'Not against [Munn] at all and don't care that she doesn't want to watch the show — all my love to her and her family — disappointed in the outlets.' Later, she wrote on her own Instagram account that she and Munn had spoken and were on good terms. 'Please be kind to Olivia & her precious family,' Accurso wrote. 'I don't believe in hate, attacks or hurtful comments.' Munn also criticized the coverage. 'To Ms Rachel and your fans, I hear and respect the passion behind your support. I never anticipated the media would single out one small thing I said and distort it like they have,' she wrote in an Instagram story earlier this week. 'Every parent understands the importance of finding meaningful programming that helps us connect with our kids. I don't want something taken out of context to be a moment that steals even a minute of joy for anyone.' Mulaney weighed in Wednesday, calling for a stop to the 'violent and threatening' comments that Munn had been receiving in online comments and direct messages. 'An innocent comment my wife Olivia Munn made about what children's programs we like has somehow — unbelievably — been conflated with not caring about the deaths of children in Gaza,' he posted on Instagram. 'The people doing this are so wildly out of line and so unhelpful to any conversation. You took a nothing comment to a dark and dangerous place. This kind of behavior isn't activism.' Accurso has been creating educational children's content on YouTube, where she has more than 15.2 million subscribers, since 2019. With the help of silly and cheerful music, Ms. Rachel teaches children how to spell and use the bathroom, while also offering lessons on emotional support. Outside of her YouTube show, Accurso has been outspoken about Gaza, which led to backlash from right-wing media commentators and StopAntisemitism, a prominent pro-Israel group, which called on the U.S. attorney general to investigate the children's entertainer. (Accurso said earlier this month that she stands against 'all forms of hate.') But, Accurso told WBUR, 'I wouldn't be Ms. Rachel if I didn't deeply care about all kids. And I would risk everything, and I will risk my career over and over to stand up for them.'

Oprah Says Barbara Walters' Struggles With Motherhood Made Her Never Want Kids

Oprah Winfrey is opening up about the many ways her 'mentor' Barbara Walters impacted her life, both personally and professionally. In the documentary 'Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything,' due out later this month on Hulu, Winfrey recalls witnessing Walters' 'charged, complex relationship' with her daughter, Jacqueline Guber. 'It's one of the reasons why I never had children,' Winfrey, who has been in a relationship with partner Stedman Graham since 1986, explains in the film. 'I remember her telling me once that 'there's nothing more fulfilling than having children, and you should really think about it.' And I was like, 'OK, but I'm looking at you. So, no.'' Walters, who died in 2022 at age 93, adopted her daughter with then-husband Lee Guber after several miscarriages. But as 'Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything' shows, Walters had a difficult time balancing parenting with her high-profile career in television. Growing up, Jacqueline Guber often butted heads with Walters, and experienced drug and alcohol addiction. As a teenager and young adult, her relationship with her famous mother often was strained. In an interview with People published this week, former NBC correspondent Cynthia McFadden recalls Walters being 'very regretful about her family life.' 'She couldn't understand someone like Jackie, who wasn't racing to the top. They were just so dispositionally and physically unlike each other,' McFadden explained. 'It was a struggle. That's not to say they didn't love each other, but it wasn't what she'd hoped for, and probably not what Jackie had hoped for either.' In the documentary, Walters acknowledges that 'people are more accepting' of working parents these days compared to when she was raising a young child. 'You can bring your kid to the office. In those days, if I had brought Jackie into the studio, it would be as if I had bought a dog who was not housebroken,' she said. Though Jacqueline Guber mostly avoids the spotlight, she operated New Horizons for Young Women, a Maine-based therapy program for at-risk female teens, from 2001 to 2008. In 2008, she told Glamour she and Walters 'have come to appreciate each other's quirks.' 'If my mom wasn't my mom, I would still want to be her friend. That says a lot,' she said. 'We believe 100% in each other, and I think that that's what love is all about.' Directed by Jackie Jesko, 'Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything' premiered Thursday at New York's Tribeca Film Festival. Early reviews of the film have been positive. 'It's a documentary a lot like its subject,' Variety wrote, 'sharp and inquiring in a playful way, and enthralled by fame, money, and power.' Toy Story 5: The Big New Rival Is a Tablet

Pixar is giving its old-school toys a decidedly modern antagonist: a tablet. During the studio's Friday showcase at Annecy's International Animation Film Festival in France, chief creative officer Pete Docter revealed that Toy Story 5's villain is Lily Pad, a "sneaky" and "prickly" tablet tablet that convinces eight-year-old Bonnie that friends and games on a device beat dusty ol' toys in the closet. The first concept art shows the frog-faced tablet looming over Buzz, Jessie and Bullseye like a touchscreen tyrant of the toy box. As you can probably foresee, this is a battle between analog animation and always-on tech. (You can stream Toy Story movies 1 through 4 on Disney Plus.) The Lily Pad reveal topped a jam-packed Walt Disney Animation and Pixar showcase where the company rolled out updated release dates, never-before-seen footage and a couple all-new original films. Toy Story 5: The enemy is tech The premise of Toy Story 5 is eight-year-old Bonnie Anderson getting a Lily Pad for school chat and online games. However, the tablet decides that her toys, including Woody, Buzz and Jessie, are holding her back. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack are all returning, while Ernie Hudson steps in as Combat Carl, honoring the late Carl Weathers. Doctor shared the opening scene of Toy Story 5, which shows a crate full of stranded Buzz Lightyears trying to escape a desert island. Toy Story 5 is being released on June 19, 2026. Toy Story 5 starts off with Buzz Lightyear action figures, stuck in toy mode, searching for Star Command. Pixar Pixar announced two new original films Daniel Chong's Hoppers, releasing March 6, 2026, turns an eco-heist into a critter-powered caper: 14-year-old Mabel uploads her mind into a robotic beaver to save her local pond from a highway project. Gatto, slated for summer 2027, centers on Nero, a black cat in Venice who's burned through most of his nine lives doing jobs for a feline mob boss. Now, questioning whether he's wasted those lives, Nero stumbles into an unexpected friendship that could finally give him purpose. The film will be shot in a "living storybook" style, which is new to Pixar. And we got to see new footage from Zootopia 2 and Elio Jared Bush, Walt Disney Animation Studios' chief creative officer and director/writer of the Zootopia 2, showed some new footage and images from the anticipated sequel, which will be released in November. The audience also got to watch a 27-minute sizzle reel from Elio, the cosmic coming-of-age adventure, which opens June 20.
