Jaipur: To fill vacant posts in the state's Mahatma Gandhi English-medium schools, the school education department issued orders Thursday asking teachers to submit their district preference by 5pm on June 29 on the Shala Darpan portal.
For appointment to vacant posts in English-medium schools, a special selection exam was conducted in Aug last year, but postings have not yet been given. "As per instructions of the chief minister, the operation of all the Mahatma Gandhi English-medium govt schools currently running is to be continued in the session 2025-26, and teachers are to be selected and posted through the above special selection process before the commencement of the session (July 1, 2025) so that the teaching-learning process can be conducted uninterruptedly," said a statement issued by the department on Thursday.
Officials said teachers have to select any one district for posting and teachers who do not opt for any district will not be included or considered in the further process.
Welcoming the move, general secretary of Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh (Ekikrit), Ranjeet Meena, said, "Teachers had submitted a memorandum this week to the chief minister regarding this. Now there is hope that transfers may also start soon, which will solve the issue of lack of teachers in govt schools."

Another Scam In Karnataka's Valmiki Corporation? BJP Alleges Loan Fraud Worth Crores

The BJP has accused corporation officials of siphoning off crores by disbursing loans in the names of unsuspecting beneficiaries and then withdrawing the same using fake accounts. The Valmiki Development Corporation, already under scrutiny for a multi-crore scam, now faces fresh allegations of widespread irregularities involving fraudulent loans. The BJP has accused corporation officials of siphoning off crores by disbursing loans in the names of unsuspecting beneficiaries and then withdrawing the same using fake accounts. BJP leader Bangaru Hanumantu claims that hundreds of Valmiki community youths from Tumakuru, who applied for self-employment loans in 2019-20, never received them. When they reapplied in 2024-25, they were informed that loans had already been sanctioned in their names. Hanumantu alleges that officials forged signatures and withdrew Rs 2 lakh per beneficiary from a Bank of Maharashtra account in Kolar. In Tumakuru alone, 120 such cases have been reported, and similar instances are suspected in other districts. Vijaya Shankar Nayak, a Valmiki community member from Tumakuru, supported these claims, stating that none of the money was transferred to the applicants' personal accounts. Instead, all the funds were transferred to a Bank of Maharashtra account in Kolar. Nayak added, 'These individuals did not sign for the transfer; the officials forged their signatures. These people sign in Kannada, but the signatures for individuals like Maruti and Shashi were in English." The BJP has demanded immediate action against those responsible and has urged the Chief Minister to take accountability for these alleged fraudulent activities within the corporation. Earlier this month, the Enforcement Directorate had conducted searches against Congress's Bellary MP E Tukaram and three MLAs in Karnataka as part of a money laundering probe into the alleged Valmiki scam. It was learnt that the premises linked to Tukaram and the three MLAs were searched under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The three leaders being investigated by the investigative agency are: NT Srinivas, NB Reddy and JN Ganesh. It is alleged that the money was withdrawn from the Karnataka Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation funds and was spent in the Lok Sabha elections. The ED alleged that the cash siphoned from the Valmiki funds was used in Bellary constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. First Published: June 27, 2025, 15:11 IST

‘We need to know their stand and exact plans': Sharad Pawar on participating in Uddhav and Raj-led protest against Hindi

NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar Friday welcomed the decision of estranged cousins Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS leader Raj Thackeray to come together to protest against the Maharashtra Government's decision to implement Hindi from classes 1 to 5 in schools of the state board. Uddhav and Raj Thackeray will hold a joint protest march on July 5 to oppose the Maharashtra Government's decision to implement Hindi from Class 1 to Class 5 under the National Education Policy (NEP)'s three-language formula. They have called the state's government decision an imposition on regional identity and linguistic diversity. While speaking in Kolhapur, Sharad Pawar said it was good that the two are burying their past differences, and are coming together for the cause of the Marathi language. 'If the Thackerays want all political parties to join the protests, we need to know their stand and exact plans concerning the issue,' said Pawar. 'Fifty-five per cent of the country's population speaks Hindi, and one cannot ignore it. People of Maharashtra are not anti-Hindi, but it is not right to impose the language on young students in classes 1 to 4. During this age, the mother tongue is more important.' Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray Thursday announced separate protests over the issue. Raj said they would hold a 'Virat Morcha' from Girgaon Chowpatty in South Mumbai on July 6, and Uddhav extended support to a protest organised by academic and activist Deepak Pawar at Azad Maidan the next day. On Friday, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut said both leaders will now hold a march together. 'There will be a single and united march against compulsory Hindi in Maharashtra schools. Thackeray is the brand!' Raut posted on X. The Maharashtra government's decision to introduce Hindi as a mandatory third language from classes 1 to 5 in Marathi- and English-medium schools of the state board drew flak from several quarters. Following the backlash, the state government issued an amended order last week stating Hindi will 'generally' be taught as the third language to students in Marathi- and English-medium schools from classes 1 to 5. It also added a provision allowing students to opt for another Indian language if at least 20 students from the same class in a school make such a request.

Raj, Uddhav Thackeray join forces to protest Hindi imposition in schools

The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bal Thackeray) faction led by Uddhav Thackeray and his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray, who heads the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), have now joined hands to protest against what they describe as the 'imposition' of Hindi in Maharashtra's school curriculum. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut announced the estranged cousins' joint cause on X, sharing an old photo of the duo with the caption: 'A united march will take place against the imposition of Hindi in schools in Maharashtra. Jai Maharashtra!' This comes after the two political parties made parallel announcements; however, they will now lead a joint march on July 5 at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai. A large-scale protest call was made by Raj Thackeray to oppose the state government's three-language formula, which mandates Hindi as the third language. The protest comes at a time when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are approaching. Thackerays slam Hindi imposition move Taking to X, the MNS chief said, 'We will not allow Hindi imposition from the beginning, and we have decided to organize a march from Girgaum Chowpatty on July 6 to oppose it. There will be no flags in that march. The entire march will belong to the Marathi people. The Marathi agenda will be the only focus. The leadership of that march will be led by a Marathi person.' Slamming the state government for its decision to mandate Hindi as the third language, Raj Thackeray further stated, 'Let the government understand once and for all what is in the hearts of Maharashtra.' Raj Thackeray announced the change in the date of the protest earlier today in a post. He also noted that their party would invite students, parents, educationists, and language experts to participate in the protest. Uddhav Thackeray also announced to join a protest by civil society at Azad Maidan on July 7, news agency PTI reported. Hindi imposition row in Maharashtra The controversy erupted after the state government last week issued an amended order stating Hindi will 'generally' be taught as the third language to students in Marathi and English medium schools from Classes 1 to 5. The order added that if 20 students per grade in a school wish to study any other Indian language, they can opt out of Hindi. If such a demand arises, either a teacher will be appointed, or the language will be taught online. The decision sparked a row in Maharashtra with leaders of prominent parties slamming the decision. However, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified that Hindi is optional while Marathi will still be compulsory.
