Who is Nicole Daedone, the woman convicted of forcing employees into sexual acts?
The founder of sexual wellness company, OneTaste Inc., and its former sales head have been convicted of forced labour charges by a Brooklyn court.
The California-based company promoted 'orgasmic meditation', or 'OM', which was carried out by men manually stimulating women in a group setting.
Following a five-week trial, the court on Monday found Nicole Daedone, 57, founder of OneTaste, and Rachel Cherwitz, 44, the former sales director, guilty after deliberating for less than two days, reported news agency AP.
The two accused could face up to 20 years in prison.
During the case hearing, prosecutors argued that Nicole and Rachel ran a years-long scheme that groomed adherents, many of them victims of sexual trauma, to do their bidding, the AP report said.
The two women used economic, sexual and psychological abuse, intimidation and indoctrination to force OneTaste members into sexual acts such as having sex with prospective investors or clients.
Assistant US Attorney Nina Gupta, in her closing statement last week, said the defendants 'built a business on the backs' of victims who 'gave everything' to them, including 'their money, their time, their bodies, their dignity, and ultimately their sanity,' according to the AP report.
'The jury's verdict has unmasked Daedone and Cherwitz for who they truly are: grifters who preyed on vulnerable victims by making empty promises of sexual empowerment and wellness only to manipulate them into performing labor and services for the defendants' benefit,' said Joseph Nocella, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Nicole Daedone of New York co-founded OneTaste in San Francisco in 2004 as a sort of self-help commune that viewed female orgasms as key to sexual and psychological wellness and interpersonal connection.
Portrayed as a cutting-edge enterprise that prioritised women's sexual pleasure, the sexual wellness company generated revenue by providing courses, coaching, OM events, and other sexual practices for a fee.
OneTaste enjoyed glowing media coverage in the 2010s and quickly opened centres from Los Angeles to London.
Nicole sold her stake in OneTaste in 2017 for $12 million, a year before the company's marketing and labour practices were criticised.
OneTaste's current owners, who have rebranded it as the Institute of OM Foundation, said its work has been misconstrued, and the charges against its former executives were unjustified.

UP to fast track setting up of 15 industrial zones for MSMEs across 11 districts

The construction process is expected to begin soon, with the master plan and other technical reports currently in progress. The complex, to spread over 38,665 square meters, will be completed within 24 months, providing modern, well-equipped units for MSME enterprises. This multi-pronged strategy by the Yogi govt is designed to make Uttar Pradesh a manufacturing powerhouse, especially by empowering its MSME backbone with world-class infrastructure and investor-friendly policies.

Three mule a/c holders held in 3cr matrimonial scam
Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad cybercrime police have arrested three mule bank account holders from New Delhi following an investigation into a complaint of a 45-year-old manager of a private firm in Pimpri Chinchwad, who lost Rs3.16 crore in a matrimonial scam between June 2023 and Sept 2024. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The scam started when the woman, victim in the scam, came into contact with a 'US-based NRI' via a matrimonial website in May 2023. The man told her that he was running a business in Alaska and promised to marry her. They started talking and video-calling. Later, the man started requesting the woman to help him financially and told her that he was suffering losses in business. The woman started transferring money to him. He used to give different reasons including money for regularizing bank account in Dubai, medical treatment, repaying loans, and air-ticket expenditure from Dubai to New Delhi and New Delhi to Venezuela, the police said. At one point, he also asked money from the victim by claiming that he was detained at Istanbul airport in Turkey, police said, adding that the woman kept providing money and eventually transferred Rs3.16 crore between June 2023 and Sept 2024. When she came to realize that she was cheated, the woman suffered depression. It is only after her relative convicsed her to file a complaint in March 2025, she approached the police. Senior inspector Ravikiran Nale of the Pimpri Chinchwad cybercrime police said that two teams, led by assistant inspector Pravin Swami and sub-inspector Sagar Poman, were deployed to investigate. "The teams found that Rs 3.16 crore were transferred to 81 bank accounts and from these accounts, the money went into 400 accounts. The police investigations also revealed that 11 bank accounts were opened two years ago using a single rent agreement. "Sub-inspector Poman and his team reached New Delhi to trace people who opened these 11 accounts. The team found that the account holders had changed their cellphone numbers. With technical investigation, sub-inspector Poman took Sikandar Khan (21) into custody from Jonapur in Delhi. Khan then revealed names of two more suspects, Ranjit Yadav (27) and his brother Bablu Yadav (25), both from Jonapur. Ranjit Yadav had accepted Rs 36.96 lakh into his account," he said. The arrested people used to contact their handler using a mobile messenger application to avoid tracing. "We have ascertained the identity of their handler and our search is underway to find other suspects in the case," said Nale.

Atlanta rapper Silentó gets 30 years after pleading guilty to killing his cousin
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Silentó, the Atlanta rapper known for his hit song 'Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),' pleaded guilty but mentally ill Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter and other charges in the 2021 shooting death of his 34-year-old cousin. The 27-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said in a statement. Hawk also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, possessing a gun while committing a crime and concealing the death of another. A murder charge was dropped as part of the plea agreement. DeKalb County police found Frederick Rooks III shot in the leg and face in the early morning hours of Jan. 21, 2021 outside a home in a suburban area near Decatur. Police said the found 10 bullet casings near Rooks' body, and security video from a nearby home showed a white BMW SUV speeding away shortly after the gunshots. A family member of Rooks told police that Silentó had picked up Rooks in a white BMW SUV, and GPS data and other cameras put the vehicle at the site of the shooting. Silentó confessed about 10 days later after he was arrested, police said. Ballistics testing matched the bullet casings to a gun that Silentó had when he was arrested, authorities said. Rooks' brothers and sisters told DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Courtney L. Johnson before sentencing that Silentó should have gotten a longer sentence, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The rapper was a high school junior in suburban Atlanta in 2015 when he released 'Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" and watched it skyrocket into a dance craze. Silentó made multiple other albums, but said in an interview with the medical talk show 'The Doctors' in 2019 that he struggled with depression and had grown up in a family where he witnessed mental illness and violence. 'I've been fighting demons my whole life, my whole life,' he said in 2019. 'Depression doesn't leave you when you become famous, it just adds more pressure,' Silentó said then, urging others to get help. 'And while everybody's looking at you, they're also judging you." 'I don't know if I can truly be happy, I don't know if these demons will ever go away.' Silentó had been struggling in the months before the arrest. His publicist, Chanel Hudson, has said he had tried to kill himself in 2020. In August 2020, Silentó was arrested in Santa Ana, California, on a domestic violence charge. The next day, the Los Angeles Police Department charged him with assault with a deadly weapon after witnesses said he entered a home where he didn't know anyone looking for his girlfriend and swung a hatchet at two people before he was disarmed. In October 2020, Silentó was arrested after police said they clocked him driving 143 miles per hour (230 kilometers per hour) on Interstate 85 in DeKalb County. Hudson said at the time of Silentó's arrest in the killing of Rooks that he had been 'suffering immensely from a series of mental health illnesses.'
