US ‘Applauds' Pakistan For ‘Success In Containing Terrorists' Days After Adding Terror Tag To TRF
The praise for Pakistan comes days after the US designated The Resistance Front -- involved in the Palagam attack -- as a terrorist organisation before tensions with India rose.
In a move likely to further deepen ongoing tensions with India, the United States has applauded Pakistan's 'continued success" in fighting 'terrorist entities that pose a threat to peace and security of the region".
A joint statement, released by both countries after the Pakistan-US Counter-Terrorism Dialogue held in Islamabad on Tuesday, said that they reaffirmed the 'commitment" to 'combating terrorism". This comes even though India put out strong evidence of the Pakistani link of the Pahalgam attack terrorists in front of the world.
The development also comes days after the US designated The Resistance Front – an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba – as both a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
'The United States applauded Pakistan's continued successes to contain terrorist entities that pose a threat to the peace and security of the region and the world," Pakistan's foreign ministry quoted the joint statement as saying.
The Dialogue was co-chaired by Pakistan's Special Secretary for the United Nations, Nabeel Munir, and the US Department of State's Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Gregory D LoGerfo.
The statement mentioned the Balochistan Liberation Army, ISIS-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and said that their activities pose terrorist threats to Pakistan.
This comes a day after the US designated the BLA and its alias, The Majeed Brigade, as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation, shortly after the second visit of Pakistani army chief Asim Munir to the United States in two months.
The BLA has been fighting for decades against the Pakistani government for independence.
'Furthermore, the United States expressed condolences for the loss of civilians and members of law enforcement agencies in terrorist incidents in Pakistan, including the barbaric Jaffar Express terrorist attack and the bombing of a school bus in Khuzdar," the statement said.

Will use power to serve people, not to settle scores with anyone: Revanth Reddy
Agency: PTI Hyderabad, Aug 16 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said he would like to use power for the welfare of people but not to settle a score with anyone. Speaking after releasing the book 'Hasita Bhashpalu' written by poet Ande Sri, he said his victory is enough to cause pain to those who troubled him in the past. The CM said some persons had told him that he could target those who caused him trouble as he is now in power. However, he replied that he does not see anyone as an enemy. Observing that he held the posts of Zilla Parishad member, MLC, MLA, MP in a span of 17 years (from 2006 to 2023) before assuming the role of chief minister, Reddy said he feels power should be used for the welfare of four crore Telangana people. Taking a veiled dig at BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, he said some people claim to be agitationists (for Telangana statehood) but true agitationists never claim. From Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara to Ande Sri, those who truly fought for people lost their personal properties and their families remained neglected, he said. 'But, those who claim to be agitationists acquired TV channels, newspapers, farmhouses and investments of thousands of crores. But, still they claim to be agitationists," he said. Reddy further said meeting the chief minister was a big thing earlier (during the BRS regime). However, anybody can meet the CM today, he said. 'I am one among you. I got this opportunity (CM post). As long as I have this opportunity, I will use it to serve poor people but not for my personal interests. Whether it is for five years or 10 years, I don't know," he added. Reiterating his resolve to make Telangana a USD one trillion economy by 2035 and a USD three trillion economy by 2047, the CM said he would make relentless efforts to make the state emerge as a USD three trillion economy by remaining active in public life till 2047. Kerala Sports Minister Assures Lionel Messi-Led Argentina Will Come In November With 'New Sponsor'
Last Updated: Kerala Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman confirmed Lionel Messi and the Argentina football team will visit Kerala in November, with new sponsorship and security arrangements. Kerala Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman reiterated on Saturday that the Argentina football team, led by captain Lionel Messi, will arrive in Kerala in November for a football match. Last week, the Congress leadership, including state party president Sunny Joseph, criticised Abdurahiman, urging him to clarify the high expectations raised regarding Messi's visit. In response, the Minister explained that Messi's travel plans to other Indian states are part of a personal tour and not officially connected with the Argentina Football Association (AFA). 'So far, the Argentina team has not said they will skip Kerala. On the contrary, the government has been informed of their arrival in November. Necessary security arrangements have already been requested for the team," stated the Minister. Abdurahiman also dismissed concerns after the initial sponsor withdrew. Earlier this week, reports suggested that Messi would land in Kolkata on the 12th, travel to Ahmedabad on the 13th, attend programmes in Mumbai on the 14th, and conclude with a visit to Delhi on the 15th, where he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These contrasting announcements have created uncertainty, but Kerala officials remain confident that Messi and the Argentina squad will visit the state in November, highlighting the government's active coordination with the AFA. The Congress party in Kerala launched a strong attack on the state government after the AFA accused it of breaching a contract to bring Messi and the Argentina national team to the state. Leandro Peterson, the AFA's Head of Marketing, claimed the deal collapsed because the Kerala government failed to meet its contractual obligations. However, hopes have been raised again with Abdurahiman confirming the event will take place.
