Dennis Hauger Sets Early Pace in Indianapolis Grand Prix Practice
Dennis Hauger's near-perfect season in INDY NXT by Firestone continued Friday morning, as he led the opening practice for the Indianapolis Grand Prix.
Hauger was quickest at 1 minute, 14.2484 seconds in the No. 28 Rental Group car fielded by Andretti Global. Series rookie Hauger has won both races this season from the pole and has been quickest in every session but one practice at the season opener in March at St. Petersburg, Florida.

Series veteran Callum Hedge was second at 1:14.6287 in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports machine. Salvador de Alba ended up third at 1:14.7679 in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global.
Rookie Lochie Hughes was the third Andretti Global driver in the top four with his best lap of 1:14.8332 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championships car. Caio Collet rounded out the top five at 1:14.8453 in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car.
The 50-minute session ended with slightly under three minutes to go after contact between veterans Myles Rowe and Josh Pierson in Turn 7 of the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course.
Rowe exited the pits in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car parallel with the No. 14 HMD Motorsports machine of Pierson. The two ended up racing side by side through the first six turns of the circuit before Rowe nosed ahead. Pierson tried to dive under Rowe in Turn 7, and the two cars made side-by-side contact and slid into the grass.
Pierson accepted blame for the incident on the team radio after returning to the pits.
Up next is qualifying at 2:30 p.m. ET today (FS2, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network), which will set the starting grids for both 35-lap races this weekend. Race 1 is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET tonight, live on FS1, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Both times the NBA Cup has been lifted, it has been by one of the legends of the game — LeBron James in 2023 and Giannis Antetokounmpo last year. The NBA Cup can also tell us something about teams we may want to keep an eye on in May and June. Last December, the Oklahoma City Thunder were playing in the NBA Cup Finals (but had an off night and fell to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks; they were ready for the big stage by the time June rolled around). Two years ago, the Indiana Pacers, an up-and-coming team, reached the NBA Cup Finals, where they lost to the Lakers. However, they used the momentum from that run to reach the Eastern Conference Finals that year, then the NBA Finals this past season. The NBA Cup schedule has been released, with games starting on Oct. 31 and running through December, with some of them on NBC and streaming on Peacock. It secured a fifth trophy of 2025 for the French club. Lee Kang-in scored in the 85th for PSG and fellow substitute Gonçalo Ramos grabbed an equalizer in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2 in regulation. Nuno Mendes converted the clinching penalty in the shootout for PSG. The Super Cup is an annual early-season match between the most recent winners of the Champions League (PSG) and Europa League (Tottenham), and it was hardly going to script when the English club took a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Defenders popped up with Spurs' goals, with Micky van de Ven showing quick reactions to prod home the opener in the 39th minute after new PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier tipped Joao Palhinha's shot onto the crossbar. Chevalier — playing ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who announced Tuesday he was leaving PSG — might have been unlucky with the first goal but was to blame for the second after failing to keep out a header from newly appointed Tottenham captain Cristian Romero in the 48th. ADVERTISEMENT Tottenham is further along in its preparations for the new campaign than PSG, whose players have only just returned to training after being involved in the Club World Cup until mid-July, and looked much sharper at Stadio Friuli.
