Caio Collet Stays Fast, Sweeps Both Poles at Laguna Seca

INDYCAR Caio Collet pulled off a two-for-one deal Saturday, sweeping the poles for both races in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Collet drove to his first and second poles of the season – and second and third in his career – in the INDYCAR development series, edging championship leader Dennis Hauger for the top spot in both 35-lap races. Race 1 starts at 4:30 p.m. ET today, with Race 2 taking the green flag at 1 p.m. ET Sunday (Both races FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network). SEE: Race 1 Qualifying Results | Race 2 Qualifying Results The pole winner has won the last 10 INDY NXT races at this picturesque 11-turn, 2.238-mile permanent road course adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, which bodes well for Collet. His first career victory, in July 2024 at Mid-Ohio, came from his only other career pole. He also won this season at Road America from the second starting spot. 'Very fortunate,' Collet said. 'It was a little too late in the championship, to be honest, to get our first pole, but better late than never. The team did a phenomenal job since yesterday. 'The car was quite tricky. I made a couple of little mistakes, but I was glad I could pull both laps together. It was a tough session, to be honest. I'm just happy to start on pole for both races.' Collet, who led practice Friday, earned the top spot for the first race with his top lap of 1 minute, 13.2566 seconds in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. His second-best lap of 1:13.3283 was good enough for pole for Race 2. Hauger recovered from a rare crash in practice Friday to qualify second for both races in the No. 28 Nammo car of Andretti Global with his top two laps of 1:13.3275 and 1:13.3585. Josh Pierson will start third in both races in the No. 14 HMD Motorsports car after his best laps of 1:13.4363 and 1:13.4499. The mirror-image starting lineups for both races ended starting with the fourth spot. Myles Rowe, winner of the most-recent race at Iowa Speedway, will start fourth in Race 1 after his best lap of 1:13.6423 in the No. 99 Abel Motorsports/Force Indy car. Lochie Hughes, second in championship points, will start fourth in Race 2 with his lap of 1:13.7569 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championships machine of Andretti Global. The third row in both races also featured a mixture of drivers. Callum Hedge will start fifth in both races after his best times of 1:13.5210 and 1:13.7659. Hughes will join Hedge in Row 3 for Race 1, while Rowe will start sixth in Race 2. This is the second and final doubleheader of 2025. Hauger leads teammate Hughes by 76 points with five races remaining this season. recommended Item 1 of 1

Douglas Heads To The Oval After Breakthrough Victory

It has been a busy and rewarding month for Kiwi teenager Jacob Douglas in the USF Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Continental Tires – and the action isn't over yet. This week, Douglas and his Pabst Racing team head to Indianapolis Raceway Park for the season's only oval round, following a breakthrough maiden victory at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course less than two weeks ago. The 0.686-mile (1.104 km) oval presents a unique challenge for the field, with two test sessions scheduled for Thursday, followed by qualifying that evening. A single practice session on Friday will lead into the round's only race. Douglas enters the event sitting fifth in the championship standings, buoyed by his race win in Indianapolis and confident in the team's pace. 'I'm really looking forward to getting back out there,' said Douglas. 'I haven't driven on an oval since 2022, so it's been a while, but I really enjoyed it last time. It's incredibly intense – the walls at IRP come up quickly, and you run right up alongside them. It takes maximum concentration, but we're ready for it. 'We've had strong pace all year, and getting that win at IMS proved it. I'm excited to carry that momentum into this weekend.' Douglas's victory came in Race 2 of the IMS triple-header and served as redemption after cruel misfortune in the opening race when, while leading, an electrical issue forced him to retire. Furthermore, contact from another competitor in a congested Turn 1 while battling for the lead in Race 3 denied him another potential podium. Since then, Pabst Racing has remained busy, heading to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for a two-day test. Douglas collectively completed 81 laps across four of the six sessions, finishing in the top seven in each of them. 'Conditions in Ohio were a bit mixed,' Douglas added, 'but we focused on setups and long-run pace in preparation for our round there later this season.' Douglas's performances throughout May have also impressed team owner Augie Pabst. 'Jacob's Indy pace was phenomenal all weekend,' he said. 'The team was thrilled to see him on the top step at such an amazing place. 'We made great progress at the Mid-Ohio test, albeit with challenging weather conditions. We're looking forward to capitalising on the gains made while testing when we head back in early July' On-track action at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park begins with testing at 4:00 am and 7:00 am NZST (12:00 pm and 3:00 pm EDT) on Friday, followed by qualifying at 9:30 am NZST (5:30 pm EDT). The round's sole race gets underway at 1:30 pm NZST (9:30 pm EDT) and will be streamed live on the USF Pro Championships YouTube channel.

Dennis Hauger Sets Early Pace in Indianapolis Grand Prix Practice

INDYCAR Dennis Hauger's near-perfect season in INDY NXT by Firestone continued Friday morning, as he led the opening practice for the Indianapolis Grand Prix. Hauger was quickest at 1 minute, 14.2484 seconds in the No. 28 Rental Group car fielded by Andretti Global. Series rookie Hauger has won both races this season from the pole and has been quickest in every session but one practice at the season opener in March at St. Petersburg, Florida. SEE: Practice Results Series veteran Callum Hedge was second at 1:14.6287 in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports machine. Salvador de Alba ended up third at 1:14.7679 in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global. Rookie Lochie Hughes was the third Andretti Global driver in the top four with his best lap of 1:14.8332 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championships car. Caio Collet rounded out the top five at 1:14.8453 in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. The 50-minute session ended with slightly under three minutes to go after contact between veterans Myles Rowe and Josh Pierson in Turn 7 of the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course. Rowe exited the pits in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car parallel with the No. 14 HMD Motorsports machine of Pierson. The two ended up racing side by side through the first six turns of the circuit before Rowe nosed ahead. Pierson tried to dive under Rowe in Turn 7, and the two cars made side-by-side contact and slid into the grass. Pierson accepted blame for the incident on the team radio after returning to the pits. Up next is qualifying at 2:30 p.m. ET today (FS2, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network), which will set the starting grids for both 35-lap races this weekend. Race 1 is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET tonight, live on FS1, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network. recommended
