Kerala health department issues COVID-19 guidelines, instructs hospitals to conduct mock drills

In view of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala , the state health department issued guidelines to hospitals and health workers. It has also directed the government and private hospitals to conduct mock drills.The Kerala health department will provide a Google Form for conducting an online mock drill.The health department instructed the hospitals to follow the revised ABC Guidelines 03, issued in June 2023, while treating patients with COVID-19 and influenza symptoms.The guidelines said that it is necessary to pay attention to whether there are any red flag signs in patients with COVID-19 and influenza symptoms. The red flag signs to be monitored are breathlessness, chest pain, drowsiness, fall in blood pressure, hemoptysis, cyanosis. Symptoms to watch for in children include somnolence, high persistent fever, inability to feed well, convulsions, dyspnoea, and respiratory distress.The health department asked the high-risk individuals to wear masks in public places. Those with symptoms such as a cold, sore throat, cough, and shortness of breath should wear masks if they are in relief camps.The health department instructed groups at risk of becoming seriously ill if infected with COVID-19 to be especially careful. Elderly, pregnant women, and those with serious illnesses should wear masks. If they have any symptoms, they should inform the health department.If anyone is diagnosed with COVID-19, treatment should be ensured as per the protocol.As per the health department, all hospitalised patients with ILI/ARI/SARI symptoms should be tested for COVID-19. If the Rapid Antigen Test is negative, the RT-PCR test should be done.The hospitals are urged to keep COVID-19 and influenza patients in separate wards or rooms in hospitals, and patients, their companions, and all health workers in hospitals are instructed to wear masks.The number of bystanders and visitors in hospitals should be controlled, and a COVID-19 test should be conducted for bystanders and health workers with symptoms.The state health department instructed RT-PCR facilities in districts to be used to the maximum extent for COVID-19 testing, and practices such as mask use, cough hygiene, and hand washing to be promoted in public places.A guideline has been issued for the hospital facilities that urgently need to be adequately equipped. Availability of Oxygen supply, medicines, personal protective gear (N95 masks, gloves and aprons), oxygen-supported beds, ventilators and ICU beds should be ensured.

UP Congress workers, close to state chief Ajay Rai, arrested for 'harassing' woman over shop; party cries fowl
Two local Congress workers, said to be close to party's Uttar Pradesh unit chief Ajay Rai, were arrested on charges of molestation, robbery, and theft, police said on Friday. The arrest came after a woman lodged a complaint against the two and alleged she was harassed and forcibly evicted from her shop in Varanasi's Chetganj area. Local Station House Officer (SHO) Dilip Kumar Mishra said that the complainant, Chetganj resident Sachina Khatoon, had rented a shop in Hathua Market from Sanjay Singh and ran a boutique there, news agency PTI reported. Khatoon alleged that following Singh's death during the Covid-19 pandemic, two of his friends, Anand Pandey and Amit Pathak, began intimidating her and extorting money in the name of protection fees. "When she refused, they allegedly pressured her to vacate the shop and subjected her to various forms of harassment," SHO Mishra added. Khatoon reportedly claimed that she even got a stay order on the eviction from the court. Despite this order, in May last year, Pandey and Pathak planned a break-in into her shop and made off with all her belongings, she added. When she and her daughters resisted this, the two men berated and harassed them, police said as per her complaint. "Both Anand Pandey and Amit Pathak are said to be close associates of Congress state president Ajay Rai. A case of robbery, theft, and molestation has been registered against them. Both were arrested on Thursday and presented before the court, which subsequently sent them to jail," said the SHO. Meanwhile, the allegations were dismissed by Congress Metropolitan president Raghavendra Chaubey, who said that the arrests are a "premeditated conspiracy by the BJP government" to discredit their state chief Rai and the entire Congress party. Chaubey also defended the two arrested persons, describing them as "strong activists" of the Congress and instead accusing Khatoon of having filing a similar cases against "almost half a dozen individuals" in Varanasi. "This is her profession," Chaubey alleged, the news agency report mentioned.

State logs 58 new Cov cases, 2 of them kids
Kolkata: Bengal on Friday logged 58 fresh Covid cases over the past 24 hours, taking the active case tally across the state to 596. At least two kids were among the new cases, with one of them needing admission to a PICU at a private hospital. While the 58 new cases are fewer than the 106 reported on Thursday, doctors said a one-day drop could not be taken as a sign of a declining trend. They pointed out the current uptick was likely to continue for a few more weeks and advised precaution for the vulnerable, as the infection could turn severe for them. "The rise is likely to go on for at least four weeks. Though the numbers are rising due to high infectivity, there is no reason to panic as the virus is causing mostly mild infections and mortality is not high," said a public health specialist in the health department. Doctors stressed the need to ramp up testing to understand the burden on the community and to frame health policy to protect the vulnerable section. People with Covid-19 symptoms should watch Rath Yatra at home: Official
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: Those with symptoms of Covid-19 should not attend the Puri Rath Yatra, director of health services Amarendra Nath Mohanty advised on Friday. They can watch the chariot pulling on TV from their homes, he added. Mohanty requested devotees, who plan to attend the Rath Yatra, to follow respiratory etiquettes like wearing masks and washing hands. The festival, scheduled to be held on June 27, will witness between 8 and 10 lakh devotees. "We should keep the numbers in mind while attending the festival," he added. "Besides, the devotees can follow common advisories like eating healthy food, drinking clean water and using mosquito nets for preventing any water- or vector-borne diseases," he said. Odisha reported seven new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of infections touched 38. Some cases were reported from Puri, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Balasore, apart from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. "Covid-19 situation in the state is not at all alarming and completely under control. Very few cases have been detected so far. There is no reason to get worried or panic over unnecessary things from unverified sources," he added. Mohanty said the Covid variant detected in the state is not virulent. "People should not get complacent due to a lower number of cases. They should take precautions like they were taking during the pandemic," he added. Official sources said the health department may bring in Covid-19 guidelines if needed.
