Fabrizio Romano confirms green light IMMINENT in Alexander Isak deal
Liverpool have spent the last few weeks locked in a transfer battle for Alexander Isak. Ever since Newcastle rejected Liverpool's opening transfer offer - reported to be in the region of £110m - it's been speculated that sporting director Richard Hughes could be back with another bid. 🔴 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Romano optimistic Newcastle will land striker Hugo Ekitike was on the list - as were Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo - but all have moved elsewhere with Ekitike taking to life at Liverpool with relish. Newcastle won't dare sell Isak until a new forward or two are sourced. Only then will Liverpool be permitted to wrap up a deal for 25-year-old Isak. But the Reds have got reason to believe that a deal could be edging closer. Fabrizio Romano claims that a 'green light' will soon come in the Magpies' chase for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa. Newcastle expecting Wissa "green light" The knock-on effect of that deal will include Isak perhaps being allowed his dream move to Anfield. Of course, Newcastle will also need to go shopping for a new No9. 'Obviously Newcastle need a replacement – maybe even two strikers,' the Italian transfer supremo told his YouTube audience. 'We know the situation with Yoane Wissa at Brentford: Brentford are still blocking him, but Newcastle remain confident they'll get the green light. 'Then they would move to sign a new striker, because they need a proper number nine before they can allow Isak to leave.'

Length of Izak Rankine's suspension revealed as Rory Sloane and AFL world responds
Eddie McGuire has reported that Izak Rankine will receive a five-match from the AFL, which would end his season even if the Adelaide Crows make the grand final. Rankine has been under AFL investigation for an alleged homophobic slur directed at a Collingwood player last weekend. On Wednesday he will become the sixth AFL-listed player suspended for making an alleged homophobic remark since April last year. The AFL hasn't given any official word on the length of the suspension, but McGuire revealed his mail on 'Footy Classified' on Tuesday night. "Tonight I can tell you Izak Rankine's season is over," said former Collingwood president McGuire. "My understanding is he will be suspended for five weeks. "The Adelaide Football Club and Izak Rankine will have the opportunity to appeal the sanction and try and get it reduced because they could argue that it is manifestly unjust. They'll have the next 24 hours, or 12 hours at least, to decide whether or not they mount an appeal." Rory Sloane responds to news about Izak Rankine The Crows have one game left in the regular season, before a maximum of four finals games should they go all the way and win the premiership. It means a five-game ban would rub Rankine out for the remainder of the season. Adelaide great Rory Sloane said in response to McGuire's revelation: "That's a devastating result for the footy club, it's probably not surprising though. I think the general feel from the club since they found out was this was always going to be the case. "The only choice you have in these situations is to accept it and move on. And that's what they'll do. Squads win finals, Bob Murphy missed (finals) for the Bulldogs, Andrew Gaff missed for West Coast, a couple of big games, they still went on to win flags and the whole mentality of that footy club is squads win finals." AFL's previous bans for homophobic slurs The Crows have been bracing for a ban of between three and five games. The club had lobbied for a three-match ban, which would offer Rankine a glimmer of hope of playing later in the final series when the club returns to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. But even a three-game ban could wipe Rankine out for the rest of the year depending on how the Crows' finals campaign plays out. Last month, West Coast player Jack Graham was banned for four games for making a homophobic remark towards a GWS player. Last year, Port Adelaide's Jeremy Finlayson was banned for three games, and Wil Powell of the Gold Coast was suspended for five matches - both for directing homophobic slurs at opponents. Two VFL players have also recently been banned for homophobic slurs, while Sydney defender Riak Andrew was was suspended for five matches last month for an anti-gay slur while playing for the Swans' reserves team against North Melbourne. And in July last year, St Kilda player Lance Collard was banned six games for homophobic comments while playing in the VFL for Sandringham against Williamstown. Former Adelaide Crows coach speaks out "You feel for the community, we're supposed to be standing up for these things," former Crows caretaker coach Scott Camporeale told Adelaide radio station 5AA. "They are well-educated, these players ... they're the best-educated group in the country around race, gender, all those things. And we continually keep having to go through these scenarios. "(Coach) Matthew Nicks would be pretty disappointed as a senior coach. He is a September player, Izak Rankine ... he's the No.1 score involvement player for the Crows. "Can they still win it? I think they can, it's never just one player. But he has got to be around the club, he has got to be supporting the group ... he needs to be there front and centre and support his teammates. Most of them would be pretty disappointed because they know how integral he is to the team." RELATED: AFL takes action after Collingwood denied in controversial moment Jobe Watson could deliver Nathan Buckley as next Demons coach On Tuesday, Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker said Rankine is 'very remorseful' and has shut himself inside at home. "He understands that he's made a mistake and he'll accept whatever comes his way,' Walker told Triple M Breakfast. 'He hasn't been outside and he had a full day of investigation with the AFL yesterday. I know that our footy club is a very positive and supportive environment and we will support 'Ranks', however we don't agree with what happened.' with AAP

Isak breaks silence on Newcastle saga: 'The relationship can't continue'
NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Alexander Isak has gone public for the first time about his discontent at Newcastle, saying the club has broken promises and that 'the relationship can't continue.' The Sweden striker was the subject of a bid from Liverpool during the offseason and has been training away from the Newcastle squad, having indicated he wanted to explore his options. Isak was not involved in Newcastle's Premier League opener on Saturday, a goalless draw at Aston Villa. On Tuesday, the 25-year-old Isak, who scored 27 goals in 42 games for the Magpies last season, was named in the PFA team of the season for the Premier League and used a social media post expressing his gratitude to address his situation at Newcastle for the first time. 'I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken,' Isak wrote. 'That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. 'The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To act now as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue." Isak finished his post by saying: "That's where things are for me right now — and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.' Isak joined Newcastle in 2022 from Spanish team Real Sociedad and has blossomed into one of the most sought-after strikers in the world. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said last week there was still a chance Isak could be reintegrated into the Newcastle squad, despite the difficult current situation. Howe said the offseason has been challenging given the absence of his star striker but that the squad has "really come together in the latter stages of preseason.' With 23 goals in the Premier League last season, Isak was second in the scoring chart behind Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. Newcastle has been linked with a move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, who also sat out the opening round of games. ___ AP soccer: The Associated Press
