Taylor Swift secures restraining order against stalker
Taylor Swift, the global pop sensation, has taken swift legal action to protect herself and her family. The protection order was filed against a persistent stalker who has been visiting her Los Angeles home.
The 35-year-old singer recently obtained a temporary restraining order against Brian Jason Wagner, a 45-year-old man from Colorado.
Brain bizarrely claims that Swift is the mother of his child and that they are in a relationship.
These claims are entirely false, and Swift has made it clear that she has never met or communicated with Wagner, according to the Daily Mail.
Wagner's troubling behaviour began as early as July 2024 and escalated over time. He has repeatedly trespassed on Swift's property, refusing to leave when confronted.
On one occasion, he appeared holding a glass bottle, which Swift feared could be used as a weapon.
Disturbingly, Wagner even attempted to change his identification documents to list Swift's address and tried to intercept her mail.
In her court filing, Swift expressed deep concern for her safety and that of her family.
She wrote, 'I do not publicly disclose my residence and have never revealed my address or the location of my Los Angeles home to Mr Wagner.
Thus, the fact that Mr Wagner has figured out where I live and has visited the property multiple times, refusing to depart and asserting a need for access, makes me fear for my safety and that of my family'.
The court responded swiftly. Judge Debra R. Archuleta ordered Wagner to stay at least 100 yards (about 91 metres) away from Swift.
The temporary restraining order will remain in effect until 30 June, when a hearing will determine if a permanent order is necessary.
This case highlights the darker side of fame. Despite her global success and millions of fans, Swift faces real threats to her privacy and security.
It also underscores the challenges celebrities face in protecting themselves from obsessive individuals.
Swift's partner, NFL star Travis Kelce, has publicly supported her throughout this ordeal. The couple remains committed to their relationship and prioritises their safety amid these unsettling events.
Taylor Swift's experience serves as a reminder of the importance of legal safeguards against harassment and stalking.
As one expert noted, 'Restraining orders are crucial, but they are not always enough. It takes vigilance and support from law enforcement to keep people safe'.
Taylor Swift's quick action sends a strong message: no one, no matter how famous, should tolerate threats or harassment.
Her courage in facing this threat head-on is commendable. South African fans will no doubt stand with her in wishing for her continued safety and peace of mind.
In these challenging times, Swift's story reminds us all of the value of security, privacy, and the rule of law—even for the biggest stars on the planet.

Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disability laments rising reports of femicide in SA
JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga has lamented the rising reports of femicide in the country. In a statement released on Thursday, she mentions that about 7,3 million South African women have experienced physical abuse, with more than two million having been sexually violated. Chikunga says she believes these statistics are propelled by the harmful social norms that discriminate against women and girls. ALSO READ: Govt must declare GBV, femicide a national disaster, say activists According to the National Library of Medicine , an academic article, South Africa's femicide rates are five times the world's average. In the most recent incident on 1 June 2025, 14-year-old Likhona Fose was found murdered in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg. A week earlier, Olorato Mongale was found dead in Lombardy, also west of Johannesburg. She was last seen alive reportedly with a man she had been dating. Chikunga agrees that the country's femicide rates are high. Department spokesperson Cassius Selala said, "The murder of women and girls is the most extreme form of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), with South Africa being known for having one of the highest rates of femicide in the world. Women, who make up 51.5% of South Africa's population, face ongoing violence or femicide.' Chikunga has also challenged men to commit to changing harmful norms and toxic masculinity.

A heavy police presence descended on the intersection of Voortrekker Road and Giel Basson Drive in Parow on Thursday afternoon following the fatal shooting of Andre Naude, a figure long associated with Cape Town's criminal underworld. Naude was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services responded swiftly, but paramedics were unable to revive him. Police have cordoned off the area, and investigators are currently on-site collecting evidence and speaking to potential witnesses. While unconfirmed reports of an assassination have begun circulating on social media, authorities have not officially stated whether the shooting was a targeted hit or the result of other circumstances. Naude was reportedly accompanied by at least one bodyguard at the time of the incident. Andre Naude's name has for years been linked to organised crime in the Western Cape, and his activities have drawn significant attention from both law enforcement and media. His death marks a potentially significant development in Cape Town's ongoing struggle with organised criminal networks. Police have urged members of the public to avoid the area while the investigation is underway and to refrain from speculation until more information becomes available. Netflix hikes package prices: How much you will now pay
Netflix subscribers are facing higher monthly bills as the global streaming giant implements price increases from June. Image: Netflix South African Netflix subscribers are facing higher monthly bills as the global streaming giant implements price increases across three of its four subscription tiers. The changes, which began rolling out in May 2025, are now in full effect for most users. The new pricing structure sees increases to the Mobile, Standard, and Premium plans, while the Basic plan remains unchanged. This marks Netflix's second price hike in South Africa since its 2016 launch. When South Africans connect, we don't just network; we build a community. The Lekker Network is a professional network where every conversation starts with, 'How can I help you?' Come join us & be a part of a community of extraordinary Saffas. New Netflix South Africa pricing: Mobile : R59/month (up from R49) – +20% : R59/month (up from R49) – Standard : R179/month (up from R159) – +13% : R179/month (up from R159) – Premium : R229/month (up from R199) – +15% : R229/month (up from R199) – Basic: Remains at R99/month Subscribers were notified via email and in-app messages depending on their billing cycles, with the updated prices applying from their next payment date in June. While Netflix has not released an official media statement regarding the change, a note on its website reads: 'Plans and pricing may change as we continue to improve our service and add more TV shows and movies. Adjustments can also happen in response to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation.' The price hikes come at a time when South African consumers are increasingly sensitive to cost-of-living pressures, with many streaming platforms competing for attention in a saturated market. MultiChoice also upped prices Earlier this year, MultiChoice implemented its own price and product adjustments for DStv and Showmax, signaling a broader industry trend of rising subscription costs as content providers invest more in technology, content rights, and user experience. The unchanged Basic plan offers some relief to budget-conscious subscribers, while the Mobile plan -aimed at single-device viewers – is still Netflix's most affordable option, albeit now 20% more expensive than before.
