The Best Hotels in Big Sur for Taking in the Dramatic California Coastline

Vogue5 hours ago

Looking for the best hotels in Big Sur? The Central California coastline is a bucket-list vacation for many—especially those who yearn to drive down the dramatic, cliffside roads of Highway 1 with the endless sprawl of the Pacific Ocean beyond. And that's just the scenery: Big Sur is known for its remote campgrounds, world-famous hiking, as well as farm-to-table cuisine crafted from Californian homegrown produce. (Chez Noir and Nepthene are a must.)
There's a number of hotel recommendations Vogue has for the region, whether one is looking for a once-in-a-lifetime luxurious five-star stay amid the notorious Big Sur fog, or a rustic retreat within a redwood forest.
Below, the best hotels in Big Sur. Cue the Big Little Lies soundtrack.

Post Ranch Inn isn't just one of the best hotels in Big Sur, but one of the best hotels in America: recently, the Michelin Guide awarded it three Michelin keys—its highest distinction for hospitality. It's easy to see why: the hotel's structure, by modernist architect Mickey Muennig, is built into the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific. So much so that you feel an almost complete immersion with your surroundings: when you wake up, you often find your room completely engulfed in fog. (That's if you chose an ocean room: their Tree Houses, meanwhile, are surrounded by redwoods.) Meanwhile, their restaurant, Sierra Mar, offers classic California farm-to-table cuisine. That may seem like an overdone term—but remember, this is the region where that type of dining was invented. Post Ranch Inn is also considered the most romantic hotel in Big Sur, making it perfect for a couple's getaway or special occasion vacation.

KOA Celebrates National Camping Month and Discusses Outdoor Summer Trends with YourUpdateTV

NEW YORK, June 17, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Whether it's roasting s'mores, swimming under the sun, or sharing stories by the fire, camping remains one of the most beloved summer traditions in America. With June marking National Camping Month, Diane Eichler, Sr. Vice President, Marketing at Kampgrounds of America, participated in a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss why camping remains so popular, sharing memorable campgrounds and experiences throughout the country. Camping Is on the Rise As interest in outdoor travel grows, camping now plays a role in 25% of all leisure trips. In 2024 alone, 11 million more households camped than in 2019. A majority of those new campers' plan to return in 2025, showing that camping is not just a trend – it's a travel shift. And as costs rise, many travelers are turning to camping as a budget-friendly alternative. Nearly 80% of campers say inflation has impacted their travel plans, but instead of canceling trips, they're adapting. In fact, 72% see camping as a budget-friendly way to travel—especially families looking to make their dollars go further. Wellness, Nostalgia, and New Traditions This year, camping is seeing a rise in wellness-focused travel. Forty-two percent of campers say they use camping to improve their mental well-being, and many are seeking 'wellness by water'—choosing lakeside escapes, beach camping, or quiet riverside retreats. Nostalgia is also shaping camping trends, with more campers prioritizing the basics: tent camping, storytelling, and unplugging from tech. More Than Just a Tent KOA's network of over 500 campgrounds across North America offers more than the traditional tent experience. From full-hookup RV sites and Deluxe Cabins with bathrooms and kitchens, to unique stays like Airstreams, glamping tents, and even treehouses, there's a way to camp for every preference. KOA also offers kid-friendly activities, swimming pools, KampK9® dog parks, and organized events that make camping fun and easy for the whole family. Photographer Maria Marriott Releases New Wild Horse Artwork

New work from award-winning photographer, Maria Marriott, brings awareness to the plight of the American wild horses, highlighting their strength and beauty. 'The beautiful curves of his powerful body were in perfect harmony with his mane and tail moving in rhythm with the wind - a quiet dance.'— Maria Marriott, Photographer SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA, UNITED STATES, June 17, 2025 / / -- Award-winning Brazilian photographer Maria Marriott is proud to announce the release of her latest photographic artwork, three images of American wild horses taken in Wyoming and Nevada. Well known for her work documenting the American wild horses in their natural habitat, these new images - 'Puuku', ' Wind Dancer ', and 'Introspection' - present an intimate look into the world of the mustangs, an environment that few even know exists. 'Puuku', the word for 'horse' in the Comanche language is the title for the first new release featuring a stunning wild stallion from the Virginia Range in Nevada. Using a shallow depth of field to bring attention to the stallion's eye and multi-colored mane, Marriott draws the viewer into the soul of the horse as he protects his band of mares and foals. Marriott says: 'The privilege to see a magnificent stallion in the wild is truly a gift. Being able to look directly into its eye, as in the 'Puuku' image, is magical.' The second new release, 'Wind Dancer', is an image of a stallion standing against the punishing wind of the Wyoming desert surrounded by a cloud of dust. It is almost as if this mustang is engaged in a primal dance in the elements of the harsh desert landscape. Talking about 'Wind Dancer', Marriott remembers: 'I spotted him from a distance while making my way through the sage brush to a group of wild horses. This gray wild stallion stood alone as if he was sculpted from wind and stone. The beautiful curves of his powerful body were in perfect harmony with his mane and tail moving in rhythm with the wind - a quiet dance.' 'Introspection' is the third new release and features a powerful wild stallion, neck bent to the right in a pensive stare. The muscular, scarred body speaks of the survivor, while the black and white mane gently cascading in the desert wind evokes a natural peace and beauty. Of capturing her new image, Marriott stated: 'In this wild stallion's gaze, I saw a kind of vulnerability we so often mask and a longing for peace we hardly ever grant ourselves. In the presence of that gray stallion, simply being silent in the desert's vast expanse, I found the essence of introspection - an invitation to listen without words, to pause and reflect.' Celebrated for the emotional depth and technical excellence of her photography, Marriott's three new images continue to push the boundaries of equine photography, while using her photographic art to bring awareness to the crucial need to protect America's wild horses. Her work has been featured in publications and galleries around the world, including Cowboys & Indians, Cowgirl Magazine, Neoque Magazine Italy, Calling All Horse Girls, Horse & Style, White Wall Gallery Greece, and many others. Recently called 'masterful contributions to black and white photography' by the Exposure One Awards, Marriott's images have been recognized in several of the top photography competitions around the world, including re-Focus World Photo Annual competition, Exposure One Photographer of the Year Awards and One Shot Photo Awards, Prix de la Photographie Paris, Spider Awards, One Eyeland Photography Awards, Tokio International Foto Awards, International Photography Awards, and others.
