American woman who moved to Russia to escape racism assaulted in front of her child
An American woman who moved to Russia to escape racism in the US has been assaulted in front of her child in a brazen public attack. Francine Villa believed Moscow would offer the safety and freedom she lacked in Miami. Originally born in Russia to American parents, she returned to her birthplace in 2019 determined to escape the poor treatment she faced in the United States. Initially, things seemed promising. In an interview with Russian state-run RT shortly after her move, Ms Villa said she felt 'free' in Russia. 'I feel free living in Russia because in Russia, no matter what time it is, I can walk outside and I'm safe,' she said at the time. But earlier this month, that sense of safety shattered. She shared a disturbing video on social media with her face bloodied from an attack by bigoted neighbours in Moscow. 'Today they attacked me with their fists,' she said. 'I was with my child. Right in the face.' Villa also revealed in an Instagram video that her neighbours changed the locks on her apartment and cut off her electricity, leaving her isolated and afraid. Her experience echoes the grim realities outlined in a 2021 Amnesty International report, which stated that 'violent racism' in Russia was 'out of control,' with attacks and even killings reported regularly. The report warned that 'anyone who does not look typically Russian' could become a target. 'Even ethnic Russians who are seen as sympathising with foreigners or ethnic minority groups, for example, fans of rap or reggae music, members of other youth subcultures, and campaigners against racism, have also been targeted as they are perceived as 'unpatriotic' or 'traitors',' it said. Russia has been actively encouraging Westerners to relocate under President Vladimir Putin's 'shared values' visa scheme. Introduced in 2024, the initiative requires applicants to align with 'traditional Russian spiritual and moral values.' By May, the Kremlin revealed that 1,156 people had applied for the visa, including 33 Australians. Most applications came from Germany (224), Latvia (126), the US (99), and France (95), with Australia ranked 11th on the list. While Russian state media frequently showcases positive narratives of Westerners embracing life in Russia, Ms Villa's ordeal paints a dramatically different picture.

Man slaps woman across the face at airport in shock footage
Shocking footage shows the moment an irate man strikes a woman across the face inside an airport terminal in Colombia after she refused to give up her seat so he could sit next to his wife. Claudia Segura, a human rights defence lawyer, was working on her laptop before her flight at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on Sunday, when she was approached by Héctor Santacruz. Santacruz could be seen standing over Ms Segura allegedly telling her, 'get up or I'll get you up', before suddenly striking her across the left side of her face with his phone in his hand. Shocked passengers immediately got up to defend Ms Segura as one man pushed and shoved Santacruz away from the woman. Others could be heard yelling at Santacruz before his wife Karen de Santacruz stood up and got involved. She grabbed their belongings as Santacruz was handcuffed and escorted by an airport police officer out of the terminal. A separate video shows Ms Segura, who suffered soft tissue trauma, laying on her back while she was tended to by an airport worker, According to her lawyer, Maité Bayona, 'other factors have been diagnosed, for which appointments have been scheduled with specialists'. Bayona added that their client, who is a contractor for the Bogotá City Hall, may also require psychological therapy, 'because she is very upset as a result of this attack and the violation of her rights that she experienced last Sunday'. The lawyer confirmed a criminal complaint has been filed. Ms Segura, who is a government contractor, expressed her frustration at the handling of the incident by airport staff. She told local publication El Tiempo she was waiting to board her flight and was looking for a place to sit so that she could continue to work on her laptop. 'When I got to the waiting area, everything was completely full, and I only saw one empty chair,' she said. 'I didn't have any bags or clothes on me to indicate it was occupied, so I sat down.' Ms Segura said Santacruz's wife Karen told her that the seat was occupied but she countered by telling her that it was not occupied. She had just finished a work-related phone call when Santacruz allegedly threatened her, demanding she 'get up'. 'He hits me on the hand, knocks off my phone, and hits me hard in the face and head,' she recalled. 'The magnitude of the impact knocked my earring off.' Ms Segura said that the police took her to a local urgent care centre in the town of Engativá for a medical evaluation and that she had to share the same vehicle as her attacker. 'I am affected and very afraid,' she said. Meanwhile, Santacruz's wife Karen, who owns a design business, has since spoken out about the incident condemning the actions of her husband – before deleting her Instagram account. 'The person shown physically assaulting a woman is my husband. And you don't know how much it hurts me to say this out loud,' she said in a video apology on Wednesday. 'And it really hurts me as a woman, as a mother, as the founder of Khala, because all of this goes against what we want, what we've been working on for so many years. 'I know that when things like this happen, it's easy to point fingers, judge, and dismiss. But I also know that many of us have made mistakes at some point in our lives. 'But as the old saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. This doesn't mean it's right, because it isn't.' She went on to say she does not 'condone' or 'approve of it', and 'I won't remain silent'. 'I reject it from the bottom of my heart because I believe in dignity, in boundaries, and in respect.'

Terrifying moment swinging ‘360 Degrees' amusement park ride splits in half in Saudi Arabia
Terrifying footage has captured the moment a swinging amusement park ride broke in half – leaving 23 people injured. At least three people remain critically injured after the horrific accident took place in Saudi Arabia, The Sun reports. The ride was in operation and was packed with visitors when it broke in half at the Green Mountain Park in Taif, a popular mountain resort city in western Saudi Arabia. Just moments before that, an object appeared to fly out of the crashing ride amid screams and terror. A cracking sound was also heard. Eyewitnesses said the ride's pole 'recoiled at high speed' before it came crashing down. The pole also reportedly struck some people standing on the opposite side Injured riders were given first aid before being rushed to the hospital. Law enforcement in Saudi Arabia has launched a probe into the horror. The area around the ride remained cordoned off while authorities continued investigating. It is understood that operations in the theme park have been temporarily suspended. It comes just a day after a woman desperately clung to a metal structure while hanging from a 100-foot-tall ferris wheel in Brazil. Chilling footage shows the woman screaming 'help I'm going to die' as dangled in the air for her life during a local carnival. The woman can be seen grabbing onto the metal frame of the Ferris wheel cabin and clinging on while suspended high above the ground at Mandirituba. And the only thing that stopped her from falling through was her grip on the metal bars. Onlookers were left horrified as the big wheel inched around an entire rotation before carrying the woman to the ground. Miraculously, the woman was reported to be unharmed. Despite the terrifying experience, the woman declined medical attention and walked away unscathed. It comes after a teenage girl was left hanging 60ft in the air after she fell out of the pod of a Ferris wheel. Footage of the horror moment showed the 13-year-old desperately clinging to the metal structure as onlookers can be heard screaming. Last year, The Sun reported on the horror moment 28 thrillseekers were left dangling upside-down 100 feet in the air after a ride broke down at the Oaks Amusement Park in Portland.
