Shane Warne's son Jackson breaks his silence on the shocking way he found out his father had died: 'I looked at him as Superman'
Speaking for the first time about the tragic events, the 26-year-old said he was with members of his family when he learned that Shane, 52, had suffered a fatal heart attack.
'Worst phone call of my life,' Jackson said in a new interview, three years after his father's death.
Speaking to the Herald Sun on Monday, Jackson said he was with his mother, Simone Callahan, and his eldest sister, Brooke, when Shane's manager, Andrew Neophitou, called with the horrific news.
Jackson explained that there were initially two separate phone calls, the first explaining that Shane had a massive heart attack, and the second informing the family that a resuscitation attempt was underway.
The podcaster and his family had to wait an agonising 90 minutes before James Erskine, Shane's manager, called again with an update.
'It was just the worst hour and a half,' Jackson said.
When the sad news finally came, Jackson said that he and his family all broke down in tears.
'I found out at the same time as the rest of the world,' Jackson said.
'As soon as I hung up on the first call, I got messages from people saying, "tell me it's not true" and it has to be fake.
'And I thought, surely that's not what's going to get him. There was not a single part of me that thought dad wouldn't make it. That thought wasn't there 100 percent.
'I looked at him as Superman. I didn't think anything would happen to him. It still is such a shock.'
Shane died suddenly from a massive heart attack while on holiday in Thailand in March 2022.
The megastar cricketer turned pundit and businessman was found unconscious in a villa in the resort of Koh Samui.
Thai police said that Warne was one of four friends staying in the villa.
One of the group tried to wake Shane for food at around 5pm on March 4, but the athlete was found to be unresponsive.
Warne's manager Neophitou performed CPR on the cricket great for around 20 minutes to try and save his life before an ambulance arrived.
He was then taken to the Thai International Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jackson recently revealed how his new career move is 'therapy' to help him cope with the loss of his father.
The budding media star has launched his new podcast, Warnes Way, and explains how he pays tribute to his dad on set.
'We've got a studio we've set up which is in dad's old office so it feels like he's there,' Jackson told the Herald Sun last week.
'We've got all his memorabilia, his book, his ashtray, it's really special.'
Jackson says that he and his dad had originally planned to do a father-and-son podcast together back in 2018, but it never happened.
With guests who knew his dad - such as Eddie McGuire and Mark Howard - Jackson says the podcast has served as a means of healing his grief.
'I'm also treating it as a bit of therapy for me,' the professional poker player said.
'I don't see a therapist but when I talk to people like Mark Howard and Eddie McGuire it's so personal and we talk about stories with dad.'

TV star allegedly visited chopper crash pilot in hospital to 'delete a few things' from his phone: Pilot speaks out in court about Outback Wrangler
Reality TV star Matt Wright visited a pilot while he was heavily sedated in hospital following a deadly helicopter crash, asking him to manipulate flying hour records, a court has been told. Outback Wrangler co-star Chris 'Willow' died in the February 2022 accident, falling to the ground from a sling beneath the chopper while collecting crocodile eggs in remote swampland in the Northern Territory. The aircraft then crashed, seriously injuring pilot Sebastian Robinson. Now a paraplegic, he gave evidence at the Supreme Court in Darwin by video link from his wheelchair on Wednesday. Wright is on trial on three charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, having pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he was worried crash investigators would discover that flight-time meters were disconnected regularly to extend flying hours beyond official thresholds and that paperwork was falsified. Mr Robinson told the court Wright visited him in Royal Brisbane Hospital 10 days after the crash when he was still in very bad shape, heavily sedated with 'tubes coming out of me everywhere'. Crown prosecutor Jason Gullaci SC asked the 32-year-old what Wright had asked of him at his hospital bedside and he replied 'to manipulate hours on my aircraft'. 'He asked if I would consider putting any of his hours, from his helicopter, onto my helicopter.' The court was told Mr Robinson was being asked to put egg-collecting hours flown on Wright's crashed helicopter onto his own helicopter, which was not fitted with equipment for egg collecting. Mr Robinson said he told Wright he would think about his request and when he made a return visit the next day told him 'I didn't feel comfortable doing it'. Wright had also asked to go through his phone and 'delete a few things', Mr Robinson said. At the time he was 'scared and panicked' and didn't know who to trust, he said. The crash and his life-changing injuries had been 'the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with in my life'. The court was told Mr Robinson was asked to fly egg-collecting missions in Arnhem Land, where COVID restrictions were in place, because Wright was an anti-vaxxer so could not enter the Indigenous territory unvaccinated. Jurors heard that Wright visited Mr Robinson in hospital despite requirements to show a COVID vaccination certificate and having to complete a test for the virus. The charges against Wright do not relate to the cause of the accident and the prosecution does not allege he is responsible for either the crash, Mr Wilson's death or Mr Robinson's injuries. The trial continues.
