SIBU, Aug 5 — Several areas here will experience a water supply interruption tonight due to repair works on major pipeline leakage at Lorong Salim 19 and in front of Ngu Chun Beng Workshop.
Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Water) central regional office, in a statement, said the interruption will be from 10pm until completion of the repair works, which is estimated to take 12 hours.
The affected areas are from Jalan Stabau/Jalan Kong Yit Khim to Jalan Nibong Tada and Durin, Jalan Salim to Jalan Pedada/Jalan Dr Wong Soon Kai, Jalan Ling Kai Cheng to the Ling Kai Cheng/Ulu Sungai Merah traffic light intersection, Jalan Lada to Sibu town and all village areas.
Other areas included from Jalan Brooke Drive to Jalan Teng Chin Hua, Jalan Quarry to Jalan Pasai Siong, Jalan Wawasan to Bawang Assan and Jalan Teku Lama to Jalan Ding Lik Kong.
Sarawak Water central regional office advises consumers to store sufficient water for their needs during the interruption.
'We will ensure that the water supply disruption is resolved as quickly as possible, and the water supply will be restored in stages to the affected areas.
'We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by this disruption.'

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Several areas in five states remain under a Level One (Caution) heatwave alert, with maximum temperatures reaching between 35°C and 37°C today. According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the hot and dry conditions are affecting parts of the interior and southern Kedah, Selama in Perak, and the districts of Temerloh, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang. In Sabah, high temperatures were recorded in the western region and Kudat, while in Sarawak, Limbang was identified as an affected area. 'The current hot weather is expected to persist for at least several more days, depending on prevailing weather patterns,' the department said in a statement. The public is advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and avoid exposure to the sun, especially during the midday and early afternoon hours.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — A forest fire broke out along Jalan Kiambang Sari 1 near Felda Sungai Buaya in Rawang yesterday, affecting approximately 24.28 hectares of land — roughly the size of 34 football fields. According to Berita Harian, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at 6.36pm, and the first fire engine arrived at the scene at 6.47pm. The operation was led by the Bukit Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Rawang station. 'As of 7am today, firefighters had successfully extinguished 23.47 hectares of the blaze, with about 0.80 hectares still burning. 'Firefighting efforts are ongoing,' the department said.
