Programme of events revealed for annual Lady's Island Pilgrimage in Wexford – ‘There's no place more beautiful'
Bishop Ger Nash will do the honours, celebrating mass at 3 p.m. with the Lagoon Junior Choir providing accompaniment, followed by a procession around the island. The castle has been subject to a lot of heritage conservation work of late and Fr Jim Cogley is looking forward to showing off the results to visitors, noting that Wexford County Council has invested 'considerable funding' in the local area of late. Currently in the process of being completed is a stunning mural by Boolavogue artist Monica Gahan, depicting the island on a wall of the castle courtyard. The area in front will provide a facility for those who wish to have loved ones remembered on the Island in the form of a ceramic photo plaque. Enquiries for this can be made on 087-4066977. With a huge amount of work required for pilgrimage season, Fr Jim is fulsome in his praise of the local community. 'The Parish of Lady's Island, although small in size, is blessed with a wonderful team of volunteers that make the pilgrimage possible each year,' he said. 'One team of men and women are responsible for the running of the gift Shop that has a wonderful array of items for sale and is open each day. Another large team take care of the Coffee shop where visitors are welcomed and can enjoy the delights of home baking and refreshments. This too is open daily during pilgrimage season and more volunteers are always welcome.' Fr Jim has revealed that daily services will take place at 3 p.m and 7.30 p.m. with a whole host of different musicians and speakers taking part. After the service on August 15, Fr Jim himself will speak with a focus on healing. 'We are pleased to welcome a return visit from Celine Byrne, one of Ireland's best-known singers, and world-renowned star of opera,' Fr Jim revealed. 'Celine, from Kildare, will be singing and sharing her faith journey on Sunday August 24. Her performance last year was magnificent, but many missed out because of inclement weather.' Celine has performed for three popes, US presidents and has shared a stage with legendary opera singers like Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli. While a singer with the stars her feet are firmly on the ground as she remains humble, honest about her own struggles, and a strong advocate of healing and mental health. Celine will also launch Fr Cogley's latest two books In the Wood You Believe series, Vol 12 When I befriended my Anger and Vol 13 A World of Symbols. These will also be available to order on Mass the following Sunday, September 7, will be a Diocesan celebration of the Jubilee Year of Hope. At 3 p.m. the All Ireland Peace Choir will perform and afterwards Bishop Nash will dedicate the Wall of Remembrance. The Closing Mass and Candlelight Procession will take place on Monday September 8, at 7 p.m. Among the other changes to this year's programme are the blessing with holy oil which will take place each Wednesday and Friday after 3 p.m. mass; rosary before mass at 7 p.m. on Mondays; prayer around the cross on Fridays after 7.30 p.m. mass. A listening service will also be available with trained personnel after 3 p.m. masses. 'When the weather is smiling and even when its not, there is no place more beautiful than Lady's Island to visit,' Fr Jim says. 'Come and enjoy yourself and be part of a long tradition that has remained unbroken, apart from Cromwell and Covid, for the past 1400 years.'

Destination X players thrown into chaos by next location – would you have got it from show clues?
The winning team threw in some red herrings to throw off their fellow contestants - but did they succeed? guess what Destination X players thrown into chaos by next location – would you have got it from show clues? DESTINATION X players were left confused tonight after a series of clues and red herrings, but did you get it right? Rob Brydon is the host of the new BBC show, which sees a group of strangers try to figure out where they are in Europe through a series of clues in a bid to win £100,000. Advertisement 5 Destination X contestants found themselves in chaos and confused over the next location Credit: BBC 5 The third episode saw the group split into two teams - and deception soon occurred Credit: PA Episode two ended with the Matterhorn being the destination, and Rob told viewers in tonight's episode that the bus was moving on to one of the five countries that borders with Switzerland. The windows of the bus are usually blacked out so the group can't get a steer on where they are, but at one point tonight, they were given the chance to look out and saw a roundabout with large red balls in the middle. The first clue had them thoroughly perplexed, but once they boarded a luxury train, they received more. Split into two teams, they headed into their respective carriages and saw a postcard with Oscar-winning actress Audrey Hepburn, a ticket stub with 'Oktober' written on it and a slip of paper with the word 'Dienstabteil' printed. Advertisement Another postcard featured a print which player Saskia asked: "Do we think these are roads or vines or like a forest maybe?" Meanwhile a book had a stamp from the Bavarian State Library. The two teams then went head-to-head in a challenge onboard the train, with the winning group receiving the chance to go into a glass sided carriage to discover more clues. The team that won consisted of Josh, Judith and Saskia, and when they reached the carriage they saw they were moving through a forest. Advertisement The train slowed down for them to see a number of new clues, which included a sign reading 'Donau' and a group of naturists eating large sausages and drinking from big glass beer steins. Meanwhile in the carriage, there was a football magazine with Harry Kane on the front which read 'Harry Kane strikes again' . Fans stunned as THREE Destination X contestants are immediately axed in brutal opening twist The clues all lead to Germany, and the winning team were convinced it was Munich, but decided to throw some red herrings into the mix when they returned to the others, and suggest what they had seen was pointing to Dortmund. But what did you think? Advertisement The episode featured a brutal twist which saw the three players who failed to make it onto the bus in episode one return in a bid to try and win a spot on board. LOSING GAME After a series of head-to-heads with Ben, James and Nick from the losing team, James was sent home there and then. The remaining players then entered their guesses for Destination X into the computer, before Rob revealed the results. It turned out Ben had been furthest from the actual location and would be leaving too. Advertisement And if you had guessed Munich, you were correct! Well done! Destination X continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One. 5 England footballer Harry Kane featured among the clues Credit: BBC 5 Contestants analysed ticket stubs to try and figure out the location Credit: BBC Advertisement

Corrie star dies aged 78 as tributes paid to 'one of Ireland's greatest actors'
Tributes have been paid to award-winning Irish actor Frank Grimes, who has passed away at the age of 78. Grimes, who was known for roles in the ITV soap Coronation Street and the star-studded, BAFTA-winning drama A Bridge Too Far, passed away in the early hours of Friday morning (August 1) after a very short illness, surrounded by his wife and family. The acclaimed actor's death was announced by The Irish Cultural Centre, who paid tribute to the esteemed star of stage and screen. "Frank was undoubtedly one of Ireland's greatest actors, he was a dearly loved friend of the ICC's and over the past three decades, he trod the ICC's stage on so many occasions," the ICC said in a statement. "Anyone who saw Frank perform his riveting self-penned production 'the he and the she of it…' A Portrait of James Joyce", will know what a thrilling, powerful, unforgettable performance it was! Frank Grimes (right) pictured alongside Irish actor Michael Gambon "Frank performed this superb tribute to his hero James Joyce, on whom he was an expert, three times at the ICC, and each time, every night he received standing ovations! "Frank was a spell-binding actor who had the most beautiful mesmerising voice and he often appeared on the radio show 'Bright Side Of The Road'. "Frank was so warm hearted, full of Dublin wit and charm in abundance and he had a beautiful sparkle in his eyes. "We know that Ireland has lost one of it's truly great actors, the vintage of which is so rare and may never ever be matched again. "We are so sad to have to say goodbye to Frank, but we are also so blessed to have known him, to have worked with him and seen him perform. "We send our sincere condolences to his wife Ginnette, his daughter Tilly and her husband Andrew and to Frank's beautiful Grandson. We also send our condolences to all of Frank's friends and loved ones - May Frank sleep easy now and Rest In Peace." Born in Cabra in north Dublin in 1947 and the youngest of seven children, Grimes' passion for theatre was inspired by a teacher who loved Shakespeare. He went on to train at the Abbey School of Acting and was a member of the Abbey Players. Grimes pictured alongside actress Sue Cleaver in Coronation Street The budding actor gained early notice for his performance as Brendan Behan in Borstal Boy at the Abbey in Dublin, Paris and on Broadway, where he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor and was voted 'Most Promising Actor' by the New York critics. Alongside his many roles on stage, Grimes' career included a number of film and TV credits such as A Bridge Too Far, War of the Buttons and The Outsider, as well as Kavanagh QC, Mrs Brown's Boys and the RTÉ drama series, Strumpet City. In 2008, Grimes made his first appearance as Barry Connor in the ITV soap Coronation Street, and the actor would go on to appear in more than 50 episodes of the long-running drama before exiting the show in 2015. The Abbey Theatre in Dublin was among those to pay tribute to the acclaimed actor following the news of his death. "The Abbey Theatre is saddened to learn of the passing of actor, Frank Grimes," a spokesperson said in a message shared on social media.
