Sarr then had the presence of mind to drill a shot over helpless Gunners goalkeeper David Raya.
Arsenal tried to claim a foul from Richarlison on Lewis-Skelly just before Sarr won the ball, but the referee saw it differently.
It was a truly staggering strike to make it 1-0 at the Kai Tak Stadium out in the Far East.
The effort backed up the nickname of 'Roberto Carlos' Sarr was given as a youngster, due to his shooting ability from long range.
Former Arsenal and Spurs striker Clive Allen said: 'It's so difficult in terms of how he's driven the ball over the goalkeeper.
'It's a drilled ball, not looped, not giving the goalkeeper a chance to backpeddle. It's fired over with great precision.'
Fans were left stunned by the effort on social media while others pointed to the error by Raya.
One posted: "Fair enough Pape Sarr, fair enough. Not sure why Raya playing as a centre back though."
A second wrote: "This might be the year I call for a new keeper if Raya keeps this up."
A third commented: "It beats me why David Raya is always up way above his line. A very silly thing he does always. Awful sight."

A fourth said: "Raya should not be that far out in that situation. He's done this too much recently."
Another added: "David Raya you can't be doing that next season. You did that last season numerous times. Let this be the last one in pre-season. Don't leave your post empty."
Sarr's wonder strike capped an excellent first-half display from Spurs, who hit the woodwork three times.
Two of them came direct from corners, showing the hard work new boss Thomas Frank has done already on set-pieces appears to be paying off already.

Exeter 'shoot themselves in the foot' in Mansfield loss
Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell says his side were "not good enough for the whole game" in their 2-1 loss to Mansfield Grecians conceded a late Will Evans goal as they lost for the third time in four games in all competitions this season. The defeat came a week after an impressive 4-1 win over Blackpool at St James Park, a result which was followed up by a disappointing 2-0 Carabao Cup loss at Cheltenham Town. "Our passing was too slow, our movements were not dynamic enough to threaten the last line," Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon. "We didn't find the free man, we didn't penetrate the last line, and then we got a bit bored with having the ball and controlling the game, so we gave them opportunities and they took one from the set piece."I thought when we changed the shape we looked a threat, we started to get the ball forward and really looked a threat."At 1-1, I think everyone in the stadium thought there's only one team going to win the game, and we managed to shoot ourselves in the foot and lose it." Having made 10 changes for the game at Cheltenham, Caldwell reverted to the side that did so well against Blackpool seven days earlier. But he said he was 'sick of hearing' about last week's win over the Seasiders before the game."I think what we have to realise, it can't always be as perfect as Blackpool," he added."Blackpool, from start to finish, was a game where we dominated, we were always in control there was no changes within the game."Teams aren't going to let us play all the time the way we want to play, we have to earn the right and too many people are 'last week'. "It's gone. We have thrown two games away - I can't accept it as the manager and we can't accept it as a group of players."We have to do something about that and every game is the most important game of our lives and at the moment we're passing too many opportunities up."

Man arrested after Bournemouth footballer reported racist abuse at match
A man has been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season. AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool. Advertisement Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium. A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said. Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form. 'We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible.' Advertisement He added: 'There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police, immediately so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening. 'As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public and the players.' A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club said: 'Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth. 'We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football. Advertisement 'The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'
