Jaipur: Cabinet minister Madan Dilawar announced Wednesday that only Made in India products must be used in education, Panchayati Raj, and Sanskrit education departments. He said only products not available in the country and requiring imports can be used after approval from the minister.
"This initiative has been started to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's
Make in India campaign
. This will increase the use of goods manufactured in India, and it will also have a positive impact on our economy. Many foreign countries earn profit from us by selling their products in India, but they use that money to help our enemy country," said Dilawar.
Speaking to TOI, he added that if any foreign product is used in these departments, personal recovery will be done from the officer concerned.
"If any officer or employee of these departments purchases foreign goods, then not only will strict action be taken against them, but the payment of the purchased goods will also be recovered from them," said Dilawar.
He also appealed to women ahead of Rakshabandhan to purchase only indigenous products for the festival. "If you go to the market to buy Rakhi, buy only locally made Rakhi made by our Indian artisans. Boycott foreign Rakhis, especially those made in China, do not buy them. With this, you will not only serve the country but also provide employment to fellow citizens. Adopt Swadeshi and make the country strong," he said.
Reacting to the announcement, state Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra said that the decision was inappropriate and irrational decision.

'India should retaliate' : Tharoor slams Trump's tariff hike, flags ‘hidden message' in US move

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday alleged that the United States' decision to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods was politically motivated, hinting at a 'hidden message' behind the move. The penalty, which the Trump administration said was a response to India's continued imports of Russian oil, drew sharp criticism from the Congress leader who accused Washington of applying double standards in dealing with India and China. 'It will have an impact because we have trade of about $90 billion. If things will get costly by 50 per cent then people will also think before purchasing them, buyers will also think why should they buy Indian things?... If they do this, we should also impose a 50% tariff on American exports... It is not that any country can threaten us like this... ' Tharoor told reporters outside Parliament, speaking in Hindi. 'If our competitors—Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China—will sell products at a lower cost, it will have an impact. The additional 25 per cent tariff has been added on the pretext that we are buying oil, petroleum products from Russia. However, China is purchasing almost double, and they have been given 90 days, while India has been given just three weeks. There seems to be some other hidden message from Washington.' Tharoor, a former union minister and diplomat, said India must respond assertively to the unilateral tariff hikes. 'Our average tariffs on American goods are 17%. Why should we stop at 17%? We should also raise it to 50%... We need to ask them, do they not value our relationship? If India doesn't matter to them, they should also not matter to us,' he said.

Kerala Government Spent Rs 13 Lakh To Invite Lionel Messi: Report

The Kerala government spent Rs 13 lakh on Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman's trip to Spain to invite Lionel Messi, contradicting claims of no public expenditure. The Kerala government's claim that no public money would be spent to bring football legend Lionel Messi to the state has been exposed as misleading. It has now emerged that the state government spent Rs 13 lakh on Kerala Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman's trip to Spain in September 2024, reportedly to invite Messi to Kerala. The Minister was accompanied by the Sports Department Secretary and the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs. This revelation contradicts Minister Abdurahiman's earlier statement that it would not cost the government 'even a single rupee" to invite Messi to Kerala. Earlier this week, the same Minister confirmed that Argentina's national football team, led by Messi, would not be visiting Kerala. The Argentinian team reportedly cited difficulties in traveling to the state in October, the only month the sponsor was willing to host the event. Previously, Abdurahiman had claimed that the team was likely to visit in October or November and would be treated as state guests, with the government covering their security, accommodation, and other logistics. In the football-crazy districts of Malappuram and Kozhikode, Argentina's national team enjoys massive support, a sentiment that soared after Messi led Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Minister, a native of Malappuram, had been actively working to bring Messi to Kerala. Sources indicate that one of the motivations behind the government's efforts was political, as local body elections are slated for December, and assembly elections are due in April-May next year, to elect 140 members to the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The exposure of this apparent bluff by the Minister has armed the opposition, with both the Congress-led UDF and BJP-led NDA accusing the Pinarayi Vijayan government of indulging in publicity stunts and misleading the public.
