Mamata Banerjee slams voter list deletions, TMC alleges ECI bias in favour of BJP
Mamata Banerjee
on Monday said that the names of genuine voters must not be harassed in the name of electoral roll revision and no names should be deleted from the voter list.
Banerjee also expressed surprise over reports that 1,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) had gone to New Delhi for
Election Commission of India
(
ECI
) training without the state being informed. "Why were we not aware of that training? The Chief Secretary should have been informed!" she said. "Please inform the Chief Secretary and us. You are making decisions on your own. No one should be deleted from the voter list."

Before leaving for New Delhi to attend Parliament's Monsoon session,
Trinamool Congress
(TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee accused the ECI of favouring the BJP. "They are torturing Bengalis in the name of SIR. Yesterday in Bihar, a dog's name was used to issue a residential certificate, which was then used to generate a
voter ID card
. People's right to vote is being taken away while dogs are getting certificates," he said, alleging that this was aimed at giving the
BJP
an electoral advantage.
Echoing this on its official X handle, AITC wrote: "This entire incident makes it clear as day—the ECI is working as a BJP puppet to favour one party. This is shameful!"

"Has His Reasons": Shashi Tharoor On Rahul Gandhi's "Dead Economy" Remark
Mumbai: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday refused to comment on party leader Rahul Gandhi's endorsing US President Donald Trump's 'dead economy' remark about India and said the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha may have had his "own reasons" for saying so. The remarks came after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday agreed with US President Donald Trump's statement that the Indian economy is "dead" and said he is "glad" that the US President has stated a fact. Speaking to the mediapersons, Tharoor said, "I don't want to comment on what my party leader has said. He has his reasons for saying so. My concern is that our relationship with the US, as a strategic and economic partnership, is important for us. We are exporting around 90 billion worth of goods to America. We can't be in a position to lose that or have it diminish significantly." "We must wish our negotiators strength to get a fair deal for India. We should also be talking to other regions for exporting our goods. Then we could make up for some of what we might lose in the US. We have to support our negotiators," he added. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday agreed with US President Donald Trump's statement that the Indian economy is "dead" and said he is "glad" that the US President has stated a fact. Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi said that the whole world knows the Indian economy is "dead" except for the Prime Minister and Finance Minister. "Yes, he is right. Everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact. The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani," Rahul Gandhi said. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump made a shocking statement on his social media platform Truth Social after the announcement of 25 percent tariffs against India and threatened an additional "penalty" for importing Russian oil.

CM mourns loss of M.K. Sanoo
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has condoled the death of critic and orator M.K. Sanoo who passed away in Kochi on Saturday. Recalling Sanoo's contributions to Kerala society and history through his activities, discourses, and writings, Mr. Vijayan said his demise was an irreparable loss, particularly to the progressive movement. His was a quiet but forceful voice in the socio-cultural milieu. He was an excellent teacher, orator, public activist, social worker, writer, and literary critic and in step with the State's progressive achievement. His four-year term as an MLA was noteworthy. He was always eager to hear the problems of the people directly and bring them to the attention of Minister and officials, the Chief Minister said. Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan, in his condolence message, said Prof. Sanoo was a multi-faceted personality – literary critic, biographer, orator, and a teacher. He left his imprint not only on literary criticism but also the area of Malayalam biographies. Recalling Sanoo's biographies of Changampuzha, Basheer, and P.K. Balakrishnan, Mr. Satheesan praised his writing and oratorial skills. Communist Party of India State unit secretary Binoy Viswam said Sanoo led a full life as a writer, literary critic, orator, and teacher. He had left a lasting imprint on Malayalam literature and on society. He was a Left fellow-traveller and gained recognition as a legislator too. He was full of empathy and interacted with all sections of society. Expressing his grief, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary M.V. Govindan said Kerala had lost a multi-faceted personality. Sanoo always took care to uphold Left principles and reformist thinking. He was a leading light who endeared himself to the people through his work and progressive thinking. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said Sanoo was a shining star of Malayalam criticism who had left a void that could not be filled. He enriched Malayalam literature with a few select books. As a legislator, he participated in all events without political considerations. Sree Narayana Guru's philosophy was the essence of his thinking. Paying tributes to Sanoo, Bharatiya Janata Party State (BJP) president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in a message that Sanoo's demise was indeed a loss to the Malayalam literary tradition and cultural sphere. His contributions as a teacher, legislator, writer, thinker, and orator were immense. BJP leader K. Surendran said the State had lost a great literary critic in Sanoo. His scholarship of Sree Narayana Guru's philosophy was very deep. As a legislator, he functioned without considerations for political affiliations. He maintained good ties with the BJP.

Tejashwi's name claim falls flat as EC hits back
1 2 Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was left red-faced on Saturday after the Election Commission of India (ECI) confirmed that his name was indeed present in the draft electoral rolls released and uploaded to its website on Friday contrary to his claims. Tejashwi, in a hasty press conference held in Patna earlier in the day, alleged that his name was missing from the draft rolls despite having duly filled out the enumeration form and submitting it through the booth level officer (BLO). However, official records showed his name listed in the Digha assembly constituency with serial number 416 and house number 110. Patna district magistrate Thiyagarajan S M said Tejashwi's EPIC number – RAB0456228 –remained unchanged from 2020. It appeared that Tejashwi had been searching using an outdated EPIC number, RAB2916120, which he himself read aloud during the press conference, saying "records not found". Following the clarification, senior BJP leader and deputy CM Samrat Choudhary launched a scathing attack on the RJD leader. "Tejashwi ji, not only I but your family and the whole of Bihar have doubts on your ability. It must be very difficult for you to find your name in the SIR draft. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Swelling and internal bleeding in the brain, help this baby Donate For Health Donate Now Undo Your name is respectfully registered with your father at number 416, you can see it. Now stop this misleading and fraudulent business. RJD's confusion and fear are proving to be bogus again and again," he said. JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha also criticised Tejashwi. "He is going through deep political frustration and disappointment these days, due to which he has become accustomed to making misleading and baseless statements by constantly ignoring the facts. His irresponsible statement regarding the voter list not only confuses the general public, but it is also an attempt to spread distrust in the democratic process and institutions," he said. T ejashwi's blunder drew mockery on social media too. One user, Rajeev Ranjan, posted, "He had two voter cards. There were two different EPIC numbers. One card was cancelled. Now he will have to answer why he had two voter cards." Road construction minister Nitin Nabin took a swipe as well and said, "Who could not check his own name in the voter list… what will he do for the people of Bihar!" Meanwhile, RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan accused the administration of manipulating records after Tejashwi's press conference. "Tejashwi ji's EPIC number RAB2916120 was changed to RAB0456228 in a hurry. Whereas the ECI has repeatedly reiterated that the voter serial number and booth serial number of those whose name is in the released format may be different, but no change has been made in the EPIC number. Not only this, in the released format, it has been asked to check through the EPIC number whether your name is in the format or not. There is no provision for changing the EPIC number. And if it was changed, then why was he not informed?" Gagan alleged. Tejashwi also raised serious questions about the voter deletion process. He claimed that 20,000 to 30,000 names had been removed from nearly every assembly constituency and alleged that approximately 65 lakh names had been deleted across the state. "First of all, the EPIC number does not change. How did it change?" Tejashwi asked, after Patna DM released the electoral list bearing his name and serial number. He also alleged discrepancies in the ECI's data transparency. "In the EC advertisements, it was mentioned that so many people have shifted, died, or had duplicate EPICs, but in the list provided to us, the ECI has cleverly not given the address of any voter," he said.
