MLB Sends Cal Raleigh Message After Red Sox Shutout
MLB Sends Cal Raleigh Message After Red Sox Shutout originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Seattle Mariners are heating up as the weather does the same. Seattle picked up its fourth win in five games Tuesday night, scoring eight runs behind a dominant start from Bryan Woo, who tossed seven scoreless innings. Advertisement The victory pushed the Mariners to 37-35 on the season. While that record keeps them second in the American League West, they're firmly in contention as the midpoint of the season approaches. The star of the night was slugger Cal Raleigh. The 28-year-old catcher had a monster game, collecting three hits, blasting his MLB-leading 27th home run and driving in six runs. After the game, MLB highlighted Raleigh's performance on social media. "Cal Raleigh hits his MLB-leading 27th HR and drives in 6 runs for the @Mariners." Raleigh's second-inning homer was a grand slam, scoring Julio Rodríguez, J.P. Crawford and Cole Young. It gave the Mariners a 5-0 lead and added to Red Sox starter Walker Buehler's tough night on the mound. Advertisement With that homer, Raleigh moved one ahead of Aaron Judge for the American League lead. In the National League, Shohei Ohtani sits at 25 home runs. Raleigh is now batting .266 on the year. In addition to his 27 homers, he's also hit 13 doubles and driven in 60 RBI. Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (29)© Stephen Brashear-Imagn Images It's been a strong first half for Raleigh, who was drafted by Seattle in 2018 and debuted in 2021, appearing in 47 games. He broke out in 2022 with 27 home runs in his first full season. Last year, he hit .220 with 34 homers and 100 RBI. Seattle finished Tuesday's win with nine hits. Young also chipped in with two of them from the bottom of the order. MLB Beat the Streak player falls just short of $5.6M in the most crushing way
MLB Beat the Streak player falls just short of $5.6M in the most crushing way I wasn't familiar with MLB's Beat the Streak game until today, and I really wish I were learning about it under better circumstances -- like, say, someone reaching a record-streak of 57 straight picks to win $5.6 million. Unfortunately, I bring to you news of someone who came so tantalizingly close to the money just to see their streak end in the most crushing way possible. Beat the Streak user "Iotank" was riding a 50-game streak into Monday when they picked Oakland Athletics rookie Jacob Wilson to get a hit against the Houston Astros. It made sense. Wilson was hitting .367 on the season and had a hit in all but one game this month. But it was all good 'til it wasn't. Wilson was 0-for-3 going into his final at-bat in the eighth, and that's when this happened. That's a bloop into shallow right field that would have been a hit if not for there already being a runner on first base who had to stay close to the bag in case the ball was caught. However, the ball wasn't caught, so once it landed safely on the ground, the runner was forced out at second, which correctly resulted in an out for Wilson. Streak over. That is an absolutely brutal way for this chase for millions to end.

Tampa Bay Rays say they are in talks for a potential sale amid stadium uncertainty
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays say they are in 'exclusive discussions' with a Florida investment group for a potential sale of the team. The Rays are valued at $1.25 billion, according to Forbes magazine. Stuart Sternberg bought the Major League Baseball club for $200 million in 2004. 'The Tampa Bay Rays announced that the team has recently commenced exclusive discussions with a group led by Patrick Zalupski, Bill Cosgrove, Ken Babby and prominent Tampa Bay investors concerning a possible sale of the team,' the club said Wednesday while declining further comment. The potential sale comes at a precarious time for the Rays and their home ballpark. They are playing this season at the spring training home of the New York Yankees in Tampa after the roof of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg was heavily damaged during Hurricane Milton last October. Before the hurricane, the Rays and the city had agreed on a plan for a $1.3 billion stadium development project next to Tropicana Field. In March, Sternberg said the club was withdrawing from that agreement. St. Petersburg is spending about $55 million to repair Tropicana Field with a plan for the Rays to return there in 2026. The city and the club have a three-year agreement to play there. Beyond that, the club's future in the Tampa Bay area is uncertain. When the Rays withdrew from the project, the city noted that it was possible the club would have new owners. 'If in the coming months a new owner, who demonstrates a commitment to honoring their agreements and our community priorities emerges, we will consider a partnership to keep baseball in St. Pete,' Mayor Ken Welch said in March. 'But we will not put our city's progress on hold as we await a collaborative and community-focused baseball partner.' ___ AP MLB:
