Another bullying case at MRSM, 6 students suspended
KUALA LUMPUR: Six Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) students have been suspended following another bullying incident. The Form 5 students from an MRSM in Melaka are facing expulsion, Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki revealed in a Facebook post. "Early this morning, many tagged me regarding a bullying incident at an MRSM in Melaka. I immediately requested a report from Mara management," he said. He said the six students have been suspended, and the school has proposed expelling them. "No need to appeal. You touch, you go," he said in the post. Asyraf said there was no need for those involved to try and meet him. "We have said many times that Mara will not compromise on any form of bullying." He added that Mara wanted to produce leaders with good morals and manners, not "delinquents", and that he was determined to ensure Mara institutions were bully-free. Last month, a Form 2 student at an MRSM in Besut, Terengganu, claimed he was bullied by a group of senior students in the dormitory, sustaining injuries to his stomach, ribs, and back. Six students involved in that case were expelled. In April, a video of a student being bullied at an MRSM in Seberang Perai went viral. The incident happened last year.

Mara expels six students for bullying, adopts zero-tolerance policy
Students involved in bullying will not be given second chances, says Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. This follows his order for the immediate suspension and expulsion of six students from a Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) in Melaka. Asyraf Wajdi said he was alerted early on Saturday (July 26) to a viral incident involving Form Five students allegedly bullying a junior and requested a full report from Mara management. "All six Form Five students involved in the bullying have been suspended and are recommended for expulsion. There is no need for any appeal," he wrote in a strongly worded Facebook post on Saturday. Asyraf Wajdi also issued a stern reminder to Mara leadership not to entertain requests for leniency, adding he would not entertain personal appeals. "I have made it clear to the Mara management not to entertain any appeals. There is no need for anyone to try to meet me to plead on their behalf," he added. He stressed that Mara would not compromise on bullying, describing it as a serious violation of the values the institution aims to uphold. "We have reminded everyone repeatedly that Mara will not tolerate bullying in any form. We want to produce future leaders with strong morals and good character, not individuals who destroy our values of religion and civilisation," he said. Asyraf Wajdi added he is committed to making MRSM schools and all Mara educational institutions "bully-free zones". "InsyaAllah, I am determined to make MRSM and all Mara education institutions bully-free zones," he said. Mara has yet to reveal further details on the incident, but Asyraf Wajdi's firm stance reflects a growing zero-tolerance approach towards bullying in educational institutions under its purview.

Students advised on online etiquette. Internet not to scam, bully or harass: Fahmi
Published on: Saturday, July 26, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 26, 2025 Text Size: Fahmi (third from left) engaging with SM St. Mary's students. PAPAR: The Safe Internet Campaign (Kempen Internet Selamat, KIS) plays a crucial role in strengthening digital literacy and awareness, especially among students, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He said the campaign reflects a strategic approach by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which goes beyond internet access to focus on safe, ethical, and responsible internet use. 'We can use the internet, TikTok, WhatsApp but we must always be cautious. Don't use it to bully, to scam, or to harass others. 'I hope everything you learned today will be put into practice. And to the teachers, I urge you to be extra careful,' he said during an engagement with the SM St. Mary community in conjunction with the campaign. Fahmi explained that one initiative under KIS was to appoint Safe Internet Icons for schools. 'Each month, we will share the latest information on scams because we don't want even teachers to fall victim,' he added. At the event, Fahmi presented a Safe Internet Campaign poster to SM St. Mary principal Philip Chew, and awarded K-Dat Icon vests to Norzanidah Hazeyani Abdul Kini (teacher) and Faradira Haratio (student). The teacher icon is responsible for promoting online safety awareness within the school, while the student icon serves as a peer guide for safe, smart, and ethical internet use. Also present were Limbahau Assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and MCMC Chief of State Affairs Bukhari Yahya. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
