From start-up to £1m sales in five years for Aberdeen AV entrepreneur
Fast forward five years and the 41-year-old has seen his company PCL Live break £1 million turnover.
The past year has seen him work with some big names including Dragons' Den stars Steven Bartlett and Sara Davies.
Adam has described the record sales as a 'huge moment' as he looks towards expanding the company.
PCL Live provides hire, installation, live streaming and production using the latest AV technology.
Adam originally launched Live Evolution – now called PCL Live – during a Covid lockdown in 2020.
It became part of a joint venture with Aberdeen-based IT support and services company PCL Group in 2022.
Adam said: 'Reaching £1 million in turnover is a huge moment for us.
'What started as a lockdown business has grown into one of the UK's most agile and ambitious AV companies.
'That success is down to our brilliant team, our loyal clients and our belief in always delivering above expectations.'
Since day one, all profit generated has been reinvested into the business – more than £500,000 to date – to ensure PCL Live remains at the cutting edge of audio-visual technology and service delivery.
Adam is now targeting further growth in the months ahead and has promoted Alex Sherman to the role of commercial director to help lead the expansion strategy.
The firm is also launching the Pathways programme to help train and inspire the next generation of audio-visual professionals.
Adam said: 'With Alex stepping into the commercial director role and our new Pathways programme launching, we're setting the business up for long-term success.'
PCL Live has been involved in delivering technical production and installation for a range of major projects and events across the UK.
Notable ones include a world-first 163 inch LED touchscreen video wall and a complete AV fit-out for Opportunity North East's flagship SeedPod food and drink innovation hub.
On the events side, the team played a key role behind the scenes at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce's Ultimate Masterclass Festival, which has featured Davina McCall and Gary Neville in previous years.
Adam said: 'We've invested heavily in our people and our kit, and that's allowed us to compete with – and often outperform – larger firms. And we're just getting started.'
PCL Live, based in Golden Square, was a winner at last week's Northern Star Business Awards, picking up the customer service award.

Spike Lee, Adam McKay and over 2,000 writers decry Trump's ‘un-American' actions in open letter
More than 2,300 members of the Writers Guild of America, including Spike Lee and Adam McKay, have signed an open letter decrying the actions of Donald Trump's administration that represent 'an unprecedented, authoritarian assault' on free speech. The letter, a combined effort from the WGA East and West branches, cites the US president's 'baseless lawsuits' against news organizations that have 'published stories he does not like and leveraged them into payoffs'. It specifically references Paramount's decision to pay Trump $16m to settle a 'meritless lawsuit' about a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. The letter notes that Trump 'retaliated against publications reporting factually on the White House and threatened broadcasters' licenses', and has repeatedly called for the cancellation of programs which criticize him. Additionally, the letter blasts Republicans in congress who 'collaborated' with the Trump administration to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting 'in order to silence PBS and NPR'. And it says the FCC, led by Trump-appointed chairperson Brendan Carr, 'openly conditioned its approval of the Skydance-Paramount merger on assurances that CBS would make 'significant changes' to the purported ideological viewpoint of its journalism and entertainment programming. 'These are un-American attempts to restrict the kinds of stories and jokes that may be told, to silence criticism and dissent,' the letter reads. 'We don't have a king, we have a president. And the president doesn't get to pick what's on television, in movie theaters, on stage, on our bookshelves, or in the news.' Scots pupils delighted with their SQA exam results success
The Record spoke to some of the happy pupils celebrating on results day. Proud pupils spoke of their plans for the future as they celebrated exam success across the country yesterday. Students at Kings Park Secondary School in Glasgow jumped for joy as they learned their Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) grades alongside Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth. In East Renfrewshire, there were record-breaking results for S4 pupils sitting National 5 exams. Twin brothers Adam and Matthew Darroch, 16, from Clarkston, both secured identical exam results. The St Ninian's High pupils both got 9 As in their National 5s but are firmly focused on different career paths. Matthew said: 'My brother got his results first and when he did so well that made it even more nerve-wracking. I was delighted when my results eventually came through and I'd done just as well. "I'm planning on doing something with computing, which is a completely different career direction than my brother is thinking about.' Adam, who is still to decide on a future job, said: 'Obviously having a twin there's competition between us, but it's always done in a fun way.' St Luke's High pupil Vidhi Chanyal, from Barrhead, landed 5As at Higher after having her first novel published at the end of 2024. The 17-year-old said: 'I'm really passionate about developing my writing skills and plan to take that forward by studying English Literature at university. I'm delighted with my exam results which will allow me to follow my passion.' Friends Lulu Bryce and Thomas McIntyre who had lead roles in Harlequin Youth Theatre's production of Bugsy Malone earlier this summer both gained excellent National 5 results despite combining an intense rehearsal schedule with studies at St Ninians. Lulu, 16, from Eaglesham, said: 'I'm thankful that I've now got the rewards for all my hard work.' At Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh, S5 leaver Alex Blues is set to start a job with a local building firm while fellow fifth year pupil Sneha Gadi is returning to school following her exams. She said: 'I'm hoping to study medicine at university and work towards a career where I can make a difference.'
