German Party Leader Describes Merz's Decision to Halt Arms Exports to Israel as "A Farce"
Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the German party "Alliance and Justice", described Chancellor Friedrich Merz's announcement to suspend military export licenses to Israel as "a farce", arguing that the killing will continue regardless.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Wagenknecht wrote:
"Merz's announcement is not a radical change in policy—it's a farce. The so-called arms export suspension only applies to new licenses and only to weapons that could be used in Gaza. Who will even monitor this?"
She argued that the "partial export freeze" would change nothing for people on the ground, who are still being "bombed, displaced, and starved by Israel."
"The killing continues, but Germany doesn't want to get its hands publicly dirty," she added.
The German politician stressed that anyone seeking real change must:
- Completely halt all arms exports to Israel.
- Recognize a Palestinian state.
- Push for an actual ceasefire.

Germany considers 'E1' settlement project violation of international law
Berlin – SABA: The German Foreign Ministry announced today, Wednesday, its outright rejection of the Israeli settlement project 'E1,' describing it as a violation of international law, and urged 'Israel' to immediately halt all its settlement activities. Earlier today, the Israeli occupation authorities approved a settlement construction plan in the 'E1' area east of occupied Jerusalem, which includes the construction of more than 3,401 housing units, in addition to establishing a new settlement called 'Ash'ah'el,' comprising 342 settlement units and public buildings. The 'Peace Now' movement indicated that the approval of settlement construction in 'E1' was carried out at unprecedented speed. Last week, the extremist occupation government's Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, declared that the 'E1' settlement plan effectively links the Ma'ale Adumim settlement with Jerusalem, severs the geographical continuity between Ramallah and Bethlehem, and represents the final nail in the coffin of the idea of a Palestinian state.
